Adamantine armor does jack shit against blunts and bolts. I nearly screamed when so fuckshit crossbow goblin headshoted my legendary axedwarf.

Not adamantine's fault, but balance bug's.
Devlog:
Today I made a debug button that converted every dwarf but the first into a zombie that is also the first dwarf's child to test out the various negative thoughts from before. Those thoughts are more specific now as well. Messed with corpse chunk naming conventions, so that it won't just say "bronze colossus's bronze" for instance, when a hand is lopped off, say, and this helps with partial animated skins etc. Randomized the rest of the interactions and finished off the example folder that'll show you the format for each of the categories. Jumped the gun on books a bit to make necromancer towers more varied (thought I was going to do grammar first, but physically, that was unimportant). We had a wizard game from a long time ago with fun little generated books, so we went for that. As usual, it'll be more interesting later, but you can currently read them and learn. If you can read.
neato, spell/learny books.
I'm kind of hoping for some pruning / reworking of the skills and attributes a bit - things like "musicality" and fish dissection aren't that useful atm (well, musicality is a useless attribute), or would benefit from merging with other skills. Also, I'd love to know exactly what fighter does - I think it's a tiny modifier to every combat skill, but I don't know.

If you already included the code and it's not harming anything, why remove it only to go through the trouble of coding it again later?
Millions of dollars pretty much spoils you.
So... what you're saying is... we need to kill him as an offering to the gods and replace him with someone less spoiled?

If you already included the code and it's not harming anything, why remove it only to go through the trouble of coding it again later?
True, true, it's almost just that I'd like it to be hidden from the menus until it is needed, so that I have less things to browse. Oh fuck, I had a retracting bridge for drowning the enemy in water. See snatcher, pull it, and guess what happens to the members of my militia who weren't killed in the earlier minotaur attack. You guessed it, Urist McTeamkiller just went and fucked over the fortresses entire defence force. It's a bit sad, because I have an emergency "Dwarf in the fucking moat" switch which empties the small drowning chamber in a few seconds, but the lever was pulled 10 seconds too slow.
Do we have any idea when the update will be out?
So... what you're saying is... we need to kill him as an offering to the gods and replace him with someone less spoiled?
What else did you think I was saying?
The human law-giver just went beserk. Right on top of my cage traps. It's like the fucking things had angry detectors and snapped the bastard shut.
What are the traps made of I'd like to have some too. [editline]24th September 2011[/editline] once I get playing for like the 4th time. I always keep bouncing back here, play for a week and then repeat after a long while :v:, mostly because odd bugs which annoy me.

has someone made a tutorial mod that eases you into navigation and the features in the game?
I'm thinking of making some tutorial videos (because there aren't enough of those, right?) not just for other people but also for the benefit of myself, as it forces me to meticulously go over every aspect of the game and who knows, I might learn a thing or two myself. :v:

I know how to play to a reasonable degree, but there's someting about watching how someone else does it that's really interesting. For example, I often don't bother with many of the industries like beekeeping, but watching others do it gives me an urge to try them out.
Quick question, do I do the tutorial with the baseline game? Or for the latest version of the Lazy Newb Pack? I think the latter will be more likely to get people to try out the game.

It's best for tutorials, as it has all the important features included, especially Dwarf Therapist and graphics sets, which are really useful. Sure I can play regular if I have to, but it's so much easier with Phoebus or something.
Hurf durf making this video in After Effects and not Premiere is dumb, and I'm dumb for even attempting it. Expect a low quality video. [editline]25th September 2011[/editline] alright putting off the video until I'm not so dumb that I try and make a video in the wrong program. Once I track down my copy of Premiere I'll get right on it.
has someone made a tutorial mod that eases you into navigation and the features in the game?
I think there is a premade save to play along with a tutorial on the wiki somewhere. If not, there are still a lot of pregenerated saves with everything you'll need to learn to play safely.
I'd say that that save isn't that useful for all the basics. It's nice for some things, but was in 40 IIRC. Still good, though, especially if you prefer text. http://afteractionreporter.com/2009/02/09/the-complete-and-utter-newby-tutorial-for-dwarf-fortress-part-1-wtf/ Psysyndicate did some good tutorial vids, and there was someone else... let me check a min. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSBqtNa-L-4&feature=channel_video_title Think it was also 51ppycup. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klXolslGsk4&feature=channel_video_title Also, you'd want the LNP - playing Dwarf Fortress without Dwarf Therapist is an exercise in futility and insanity. After a while I stopped following it and started playing on my own, didn`t even read it all completely.
Devlog:
Today was the day I thought I'd finish necromancers, but I'm a few days behind as usual. In any case, I'm finishing up my invasion tests tonight. Then there are a few tower bugs for Friday, although month-end stuff like drawing up crayon art takes a good chunk out of the day. We should be to mummy cleanup soon though.
sounds like it's just about done, with any luck.
I hope that someday that corpses aren't treated as items and whatnot, and that you can raise zombies in their gear and bury soldiers and nobles with their gear and possessions. Also be able to target their bodies and slice off bodyparts and collect them, like the heads/fingers/ears/feet.
I'd quite like the ability to aim at yourself in adventure mode, and posions / syndromes that spread from one limb to the body and the like. Forcibly amputate your finger / leg where a GCS bites it or something.
Teleport your heart outside your body.
Teleport your heart outside your body.
Wasn't that in the original Armok? I heard it was hilariously overpowered as hell. I can't wait for the whole interactions system. [editline]30th September 2011[/editline] Also Korpiklaani is the best thing to play DF to.
Also Korpiklaani is the best thing to play DF to.
Wooden Pints?
I know this is in the wiki, but how do I make soap, I've got the Lye and I've got the tallow, but in the soap maker's workshop "Make Soap from Tallow" is still unavailable" I've heard that Tallow needs to be stored in a bucket not a barrel but if this is the case I don't know how to make them specifically store it in a bucket.... any help?

Sad part is that the fucking dorfs love to mix them all the time.
