Okay, I brought a willow training axe and a carpenter and designated some trees to be cut down and nobody is doing anything. They're not on break and they're not sleeping.
Carpenter is the profession for making furniture out of wood. Wood cutting is the tree cutting labor. Maybe he doesnt have wood cutting skill. You can always enable it in the preferences>labors menu when you view the unit.

Just use Dwarf Therapist to do the jobs instead.
The ingame way is an exercise in masochism.

But it's an external program, not a mod!
Also, keeping track of who does what must be hell...

I think you want the "N" key
How many soldiers do I need to kill a forgotten beast? average soldiers with some armor
Do I need to assign rooms to everyone?
How many soldiers do I need to kill a forgotten beast? average soldiers with some armor
Maybe none, maybe more than you could ever have. Depends on the beast. The weakest ones practically kill themselves.
Do I need to assign rooms to everyone?
No, but they are happier if you do.
"A huge scaly ribbon worm, It has a spiral shell and it squirms and wiggles, beware its deadly spittle."

Shells can be tough to crack. Send some well-armored hammer dwarves after it. Expect casualties from the spittle. The beast itself should be a pushover.
I love forgotten beasts. I still have a stack of 230 ☼Forgotten Beast Heart Roasts☼ from 6 in game years ago.
what the fuck, my armorsmith got possessed, its demanding;
metal bars, rough gems, bones, and blocks.
I have all of these, possibly not the bones though, but she still demands the things I already have...

Yup, they'll do that. They need everything on the list before they'll shut up. If you have all the ingredients, you may not have enough, as sometimes they'll need 2 bones or something
Ahah. She didnt have bones, but she still yells that she needed the other crap.
She made a 500k adamantite war hammer :D

adamantite hammers are bad since adamantite doesn't weigh anything
hammers are only good when they're silver or steel

I bet it makes a cute little "pomf" noise every time someone hits a guy with it :v:

I dont understand, i got ambushed by 5 goblins and I lost my entire military of 15 men, all of them in full armor and weapons. I managed to kill 1 and the rest ran away =/
[editline]6th November 2011[/editline]
What did I do wrong :(
Could still be deadly if you get someone to a Legendary Hammerdwarf. Wooden training spears are like fucking ballista bolts if they're wielded by a master, according to the wiki.

What were the goblins equipped with, what were you equipped with and how well trained were they?

And the peasants did rejoice and dance and sing as they were butchered.
For a titan made of gemstone it didn't do much damage, the only casualty was one baby-shield. The militia commander was rather spectacular though, he bit into it and fractured its arm with his bare teeth. Marksdwarf got the final kill by shooting it in half with a copper bolt.

Im also wondering, I captured a few goblins in cages, I want to execute them and get their armor. I assume my dwarves could just stab them through the bars but how am I supposed to do that?

Why do I imagine this this just running around screaming "I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU!" over and over as it crushes and spears dwarves without mercy?

there's a way to strip their stuff from them without even killing them but I don't remember where I read it on the wiki
Im also wondering, I captured a few goblins in cages, I want to execute them and get their armor. I assume my dwarves could just stab them through the bars but how am I supposed to do that?
Well, you can strip them of their stuff without killing them. Just reclaim the goblin(s) from the d-b menu, and then dump them, but remember to remove the dump on the cage. After that, dwarves will strip the goblins of their inventories and put it into the garbage area. Then you can do what you want with their stuff.
Also make an arena and let your military train on the unarmed gobs, it boosts weapon skills nicely.

Not really, they tend to just be doing what they are assigned to do, at least, that's how I do it.

The problem here is that dwarves aren't exactly known for their giving and kindness, thus them and the titan don't get along too well.
It's entirely likely that the goblins are a divine force of justice, and hell is actually heaven.
The goblin "snatchers" are high priests saving a child from life in a Dwarf Fortress.
Ambushers are paladins coming in to show holy justice, and seiges are actually a high priest leading a crusade.
Gimme some good forgotten beast descriptions. I feel like drawing today.
