it seems being sent to the hospital is a death penalty in my fortress, they are there for so long that they die from thirst. Should I fire my chief medical dwarf ?
You need to make buckets, since Dwarves will die of thirst even if the Chief is good and available.
the dwarfs aren't doing the designations, help!
You need to dig stairs to the z-level below first if you're trying to dig underground
You need to make buckets, since Dwarves will die of thirst even if the Chief is good and available.
I have loads of buckets. Can the dwarves drink booze when in the hospital ? it's winter and the water sources have frozen so all I have is booze.
I have loads of buckets. Can the dwarves drink booze when in the hospital ? it's winter and the water sources have frozen so all I have is booze.
No, hospitalized dwarves can only drink water. Dig into the caverns and hope you find a pond inside.

How do I get rid of cave plants? They're invading my fortress.
How do I get rid of cave plants? They're invading my fortress.
You don't. Stuff grows on the floor naturally over time.
How do I get rid of cave plants? They're invading my fortress.
You could build floors over ground.
So this guy made these really nice arrows right. Then my archer shoots it a goblin The goblin walks off the map. The arrow maker freaks out and starts murdering people. TANTRUM SPIRAL!
How dare his masterwork bolts be lost in the flesh of an enemy!

TANTRUM SPIRAL!
Bug 0003169: Bone carvers (and metalsmiths) suffer art defacement when somebody leaves the map with stuck-in masterpiece bolts http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=3169
1) get a good bone carver (like like 10) 2) make him make a bunch of bolts 3) wait till he makes a masterpiece 4) shoot the bolts ... 6) your civilization has crumbled into dust. this probably applies to other kinds of bolts as well
Oh god why everyone is dying There goes my 50 hour fortress. At least it went with a bang,
Oh god why everyone is dying There goes my 50 hour fortress. At least it went with a bang,
DF is one of the few games where I can genuinely say that losing 50 hours of work is the fun part.
The amount of RRAAARR ANGRINESS a dwarf gets from artwork defacement is inversely proportional to how many masterpieces he/she has made. So a dwarf who has only made 1-2 stacks of masterwork bolts will get PISSED OFF whereas a dwarf who has made masterwork bolts for living since god knows when will get only a slight happiness loss. [editline]7th November 2011[/editline] The rage stat (varies between 0-100) also matters, I'm pretty sure. The angrier a dwarf is in his personality the easier he is to piss off
could you mod the game to be GCS fortress? Or Bronze collossi fortress? A kid just claimed a workshop. Hm.. [editline]7th November 2011[/editline] She's one handed, an alcoholic, and she is missing two toes on her left foot. At age 5.
Oh god why everyone is dying There goes my 50 hour fortress. At least it went with a bang,
It's a good idea to have the Craftdwarf's Workshop where you make your bone bolts (Or carpenter or whatever shop that may make an item that could be destroyed) set so that legendary dwarves won't work there. If you've had a fortress long enough to get legendary dwarves odds are you can give them their own workshop for individual dwarves or just for legendaries. Should avoid the bone-bolt-destruction-hell-spiral. [editline]7th November 2011[/editline]
A kid just claimed a workshop. Hm.. You should post your drawings in the DF forum art thread. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=1604.0
You should post your drawings in the DF forum art thread. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=1604.0
Oh god I love this thread.
I don't know if I dare. They do PS magic drawings, crap out two colored paint pictures :v:
Your pics are way better than the average poster's in that thread.
I don't know if I dare. They do PS magic drawings, I crap out two colored paint pictures :v:
wow. Ouch. You got one-upped in the post right after yours.
wow. Ouch. You got one-upped in the post right after yours.
Actually, the picture in question, while it is aesthetically pleasing, is for a web-comic that has dwarfs in it (called effigies), rather then being a bit of DF fan art.
artifact adamantine weapons in a nutshell: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12845091/bluemetalWarhammer.swf not actually mine, of course, i can't draw that well.
artifact adamantine weapons in a nutshell: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12845091/bluemetalWarhammer.swf
Dwarves should put Adamantine spikes on the flat of the warhammer, like a meat tenderizer, would make it more effective at least.
You need to dig stairs to the z-level below first if you're trying to dig underground
i know that, but they're still not digging! and the woodcutters aren't cutting trees either!
Dwarves should put Adamantine spikes on the flat of the warhammer, like a meat tenderizer, would make it more effective at least.
The spikes are to be made with rope reed thread. Also, nmagain, have you got the woodcutter and miner skill enabled on dwarves, and have you got pickaxes and axes (or training axes for woodcutting) This might be useful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSBqtNa-L-4&list=PL57C3E6F6FA52B85B&index=1&feature=plpp_video
