Military management is gonna be so much fun if he keeps this system in a 8000 dwarf fort.
It could be helped alot by creating some sort of a mass drafting mechanic that automatically appoints more or less combat skilled dwarves of desired amount to your military and then putting squads under companies and companies under battalions which you could appoint larger scale goals or orders concerning training or war for example which the AI would carry out.

New devlog
As an adventurer you can run around and call out vampires that you learn about from the citizens now and occasionally be troubled by their followers. It's all pretty thin, but it's what I felt like I had time for -- the game isn't really ready for dealing with wider issues that come up with cult/tyrant ruler vampires, so I'm going to move on to the final town cleaning now. There's quite a bit of it, touching upon town building generation errors, market testing, optimization, sewer placement problems, weird tower placement, rivers in town doing strange things and not having bridges, strangeness on the town travel map, etc. It's a slog, really, but a slog is all that remains now.

There are dorfs who aren't drunks?
It's sort of like in Futurama. The queen is a teetotaler, obviously.
No, she's an alcoholic by dwarven standards. Keep her away from open flames or sparks.
Seeing how now's as good a time as ever, there's apparently a Visualizer available that's reminiscent of the 3D Visualizer we had back in 40d, called Overseer, and it certainly looks every bit as "realistic" and screenshot capable. (Early version, possibly) (Overseer of today) [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/Htuzd.jpg[/img_thumb] [editline]15th November 2011[/editline] The initial version of Overseer works up until anything above .21, and then it gets an error. To fix this, just download the memory.xml file they have in their thread and replace the existing memory.xml file in the Overseer folder.

for some reason i cant make soap even though i have both lye and tallow
for some reason i cant make soap even though i have both lye and tallow
Is the lye stored in a barrel, it has to be Make the "soap" order from the job manager, j->m
so i got sieged by the goblins managed to capture like 10 trolls but there was still lots of enemies left, they only managed to kill a few of my dwarves but now there's body parts and blood everywhere all the dwarves are starting random fistfights and going mad and crazy shit im having lots of "fun" [editline]17th November 2011[/editline] one dwarf just murdered another and used his bones to make a pickaxe
Fuck, generate 3 worlds hoping for volcanoes, all of the volcanoes are islands in the sea. Think "fourth time lucky" and find a perfect volcano, relatively flat (for some reason) and by a water source. Only to find that the bloody elves have got a city on it for some odd reason.
You could go into Advanced World Generation and increase the number of volcanoes.
I've never tampered in there before, but thanks for the idea, I got a world with a nice volcano right on the fith try though. Gonna try out glassmaking there, got sand about 90 squares away from the magma, so I should be able to get a cool glass/metal making fortress.
What happens if you break through the base of a volcano?
What happens if you break through the base of a volcano?
I would assume Fun happens.
What happens if you break through the base of a volcano?
This happens.
A Fuck the world device. Long time since I saw one of those.
This happens.
And what happens when you break through that tile of solid rock? [sp]Superhell?[/sp]
A Fuck the world device. Long time since I saw one of those.
Well, they became exponentially harder to build once the 3D version rolled around.
Well, they became exponentially harder to build once the 3D version rolled around.
Thus making them more dorfy!
Well, they became exponentially harder to build once the 3D version rolled around.
Isn't this just another one of those problems that can be solved by the application of more magma/lava?
apparently my bridge into my fortress dissapeared into thin air and i didn't notice so half my fortress is starving to death and fighting each other over rats outside
Ha, I'm playing SS13 and talking with an admin, and he mentions that he's trying to get a tantrum spiral started by hurling all their pets into +40 z-level pits with spikes at the bottom.
having a tantrum spiral right now i just hope i still have some dorfs when it is over
apparently my bridge into my fortress dissapeared into thin air and i didn't notice so half my fortress is starving to death and fighting each other over rats outside
prolly destroyed by trolls/megabeasts
Or someone had a tantrum over it
There is a goblin siege and while all the goblins seem to be doing nothing at the edge of the map, i'd like all of my dwarves to come inside so that I can raise the bridge and not trap anyone outside, how do I make all my dwarves come inside?
im getting constant sieges and ambushes while suffering from a tantrum spiral at the same time [editline]19th November 2011[/editline] also sliferz you can make a burrow and just mark your entire indoor fortress and add your dwarfs to it start making the burrow by pressing w
...how do I make all my dwarves come inside?
It's been a while since I've played, but I believe you can make a burrow to encompass your "safezone" then set an alert to keep all your dwarves from doing chores outside of the burrow.
