So I already put this in LMAO pics but
Um, if I got shot, or fell off a space station, I would probably swear a few hundred times. I fail to see how that is out of character.
because it's fucking SONIC THE HEDGEHOG THAT GUY RIGHT THERE [editline]14th January 2012[/editline] he's a character aimed at kids, like (as I previously mentioned) mickey mouse, or astro boy. or mario. or bugs bunny. you get the point, i hope. It's simply dumb as shit to suddenly having him swearing and attempting to appear mature. He's a blue talking hedgehog. That runs really fast. If a REAL PERSON got shot, I'd expect some colorful language. Sonic is not a real person.
Really was hoping for more than 9 levels, even if it boils down to 18, and like 90 challenges, the portion where you play as Modern Sonic sometimes boiled down to 60-70% side scrolling and the other half being the fun and fast as hell dashing and hopping and dodging through crazy environments, where as Classic Sonic was all side scrolling with the 3D turn about's that Sonic Rivals did. Glad I rented this game, it was fun, but really damned short. Also [sp]Fucking fuck you vector. stupid ass keep the beat challenge.[/sp]
I think there should just be a sonic megathread..
This is it, its just titled sonic generations because thats 90% of what we'll talk about
Also [sp]Fucking fuck you vector. stupid ass keep the beat challenge.[/sp]
I got so annoyed with that challenge that I ended up just staying close to him and jumping up the very moment he sent it back.
The [sp]Silver fight[/sp] annoyed me because he just wouldn't die.

I know every classic fan is going to tear me apart over this, but I didn't like the 2d segments in Generations, classic or modern. The fun just seemed to turn off whenever it went from fast paced forward moving parts to the extremely slow platforming parts. My problem is that whenever it went from 3d to 2d, you just lost all sense of speed and movement, and it became slow and boring. It's why I really hated Planet Wisp, because it embodied every part of Colours and Generations that I didn't like. It went from the extremely good looking forward running part, to dull looking machinery and boring upwards moving platforming.
I figured today, that the skills are worthless unless you're playing for fun (or Red Ring hunting); they're never really needed at all, and only regular level plays allow them to be used. Challenges, Rival fights, Boss fights, and Time Trials all disallow skills from being used. They can change the normal level plays up a bit, though - like using the Fire Shield's makeshift air dash as a boost equivalent for Classic stages, or trying to find alternate/special routes with Endless Boost in Modern while trying not to take any damage. Also, Dopplegangers can still kiss my ass. :v:

It went from the extremely good looking forward running part, to dull looking machinery and boring upwards moving platforming.
It's not the 2d gameplay that's slow, it's the level design. Classic sonic games were amazing partly because of their ingenious level designs. They were a perfect balance between building up momentum and dodging or "popping" enemies, and small segments where you needed to slow down and think, or at the very least apply some precise skill. Not to mention how huge they were; you weren't just holding right the whole time, you could explore and find secret areas and side passages. As much as I love the Adventure titles, this is where things started going downhill in that regard; the level designs were much simpler and more linear (albeit nowhere near as bad as later games). Despite the more linear levels, the Adventure games were still great because they involved much more of what the series is really all about: momentum. Yes, momentum, not speed. The reason the speed was so enjoyable in the Genesis days was because you spent a few moments charging a spin dash, or running along an open space, before you launched yourself across the level off some curved ramp. Plus, it was fun to toy around with the rolling, jumping, and spin-dashing mechanics in different areas to see what you could do, and where you could get to. The Adventure titles still had a lot of the whole "momentum" thing going on because: a) the homing attack didn't make sonic snap to an exact constant speed b) the homing attack didn't completely freeze you in midair after you killed an enemy with it c) the homing attack let you build up running momentum with it, if you were skilled enough and had the right kind of terrain d) you had to really work at it to get to astronomical speeds e) the spin dash, sonic's most iconic move, was actually, you know, in the game Even with the better gameplay in the Adventures, the whole "roll around to build momentum" thing is something that they never got quite right in 3D sonic games. Why? Mostly because after SA2, they never included it in another game until generations. Sega decided that Sonic was less about momentum and platforming and more about EPIK STORIE and BEING CULE AND EJJY and GOTTA GO FAST. No, Sega. A decent story and "awesome" character designs were just added bonuses to solid as hell momentum-based gameplay. Even Knuckles and Rouge controlled with the same physics as Sonic and Shadow, just with gliding and open levels instead of linear ones. Just another nitpick--other characters in sonic games should control like Sonic, just with some different moves. Example of doin it rite: What I mentioned, Knux and Rouge in SA2. Example of doin it rong: the mech characters in the same game (but at least they made up for it by being fun in their own different gameplay). And another thing, speed isn't just a reward in Sonic games--it's simultaneously an added challenge. In the Genesis games, speed not only meant you had successfully done something to get up to your current pace, but if you wanted to keep breezing past everything you'd have to react fast to anything that popped up on the screen thanks to that *ahem* glorious blast processing. Even more than that, building up lots of momentum made you bounce further when hitting enemies, or launch further when you went off a slope. Again, the level designers accounted for this, so you could use all the momentum you'd been building up over the past half a level to discover some sweet shortcuts or hidden bonuses. If you want a concise definition of what the Sonic series should be all about, here it is: "Momentum-based platforming that encourages you to play creatively." But what the fuck do I know, just give him a button that makes him hit top speed instantly, kill enemies on contact, and attract rings to him, and make him run in a straight line. GOTTA GO FAST, RIGHT?
My biggest beef 3D Sonic Levels + platforming (CRISIS CITY, PLANET WISP) = horrible level design Hell, Modern Sonic is just really awkward to control in 2D dimensions at all, where the platforming is heavy Leave the jumping and patience to classic Sonic, the guy made for platforming. And if you're going to force me to take my time and figure shit out, don't rate me SOLELY ON TIME Heroes had a GREAT rating system Time Score Rings Level Not just YOU BEAT THIS COURSE IN THIS AMOUNT OF TIME, HERE'S YOUR SCORE Goddammit [editline]17th January 2012[/editline] BTW, Generations needed a 3rd Sonic Classic Mid-modern and Modern Classic and Modern would stay the same And mid-modern would be like the Sonic Adventure games Because like i said Modern Sonic shouldn't have platforming. It should be, like Nano said, momentum based. CRISIS CIIITYYY
Well, I didn't mind the platforming much as Modern Sonic. He is prone to moving too fast to stop when it comes to said sections - but platforming with Modern actually felt better than platforming with Classic, to me at least. In other news, Sonic fans rejoice; a Steam weekend sale has select Sonic titles, including Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 and Sonic CD (yes, the new and awesome port). Lasts 'till Monday, and the sales are so good that Sonic Generations is $15 right now. :v:

Yes, more platforms for Sega to showcase their amazing Sonic 4 physics engine! Sonic CD on the other hand, Is going to get a buy from me.
I'll trade a bunch of TF2 shit for Sonic 4: Episode 1 [editline]19th January 2012[/editline] if anyone is interested in striking a deal, pm me
Sonic CD is so good. I'm curious about the unlocks, like D. A. Garden and Visual Mode. Also, it seems like the nightmare fuel music is in there by default... Both boss music and normal gameovers... I swore you had to let Sonic kill himself for that.
So Casino Nights is just a pinball table? Meh, it's only $1.59. $10 seems a tad much for Sonic 4, I'll be waiting for a sale. I know Sonic CD is amazing though, so I may grab that.
If they ever release a new sonic game where the fucking camera would have the courtesy of being behind at mostly all time so I could see where the hell i'm going i'd pay a lot for this game. This is why SA1/SA2/SH and even Shadow the Hedgehog was awesome, no 2.5D bullshit for half a level.
I thought it was perfect in Sonic Generations
$10 seems a tad much for Sonic 4, I'll be waiting for a sale. I know Sonic CD is amazing though, so I may grab that.
It's only 7€ for me wtf.

I got All Stars Racing and Sonic CD (along with the Casino Night DLC). But I can't download Sonic CD, it's saying no Steam content servers are currently set up to deliver content for it and that I should wait a few minutes. v:v:v
I remember having Sonic CD years ago, but I never beat it. Now I finally get the chance!
What.
Just installed Sonic CD. I wasn't even aware they were going to release it on Steam until I logged in earlier to chat with some people and I saw the sale. Bam, sold me in 2 minutes. Welcome back Sega!

After more than a dozen tries I don't even feel like I've accomplished anything. The rest of the game is cool though.
