Playing Sonic CD through again, I got up to the race with Metal Sonic. Now I remember why I hated this damn portion of the game so much. Fuck you you cheating motherfucking cocksucking cuntmuffin fake fuck hedgehog and fuck Robotnik's laser wall of death. :suicide:
It ain't that hard. If your aiming for the achievement, then i'll agree with that last line of yours. Sadly I don't have it on Steam but I have it on the iOS ($3 cheaper too). Works like a charm, unlike SEGA's other Sonic game on the iOS (due to their emulator).
Why do they use an emulator for their older games? I remember playing a fully-functioning Sonic 3D Blast PC version when I was a kid.
Why do they use an emulator for their older games? I remember playing a fully-functioning Sonic 3D Blast PC version when I was a kid.
Even the Sonic Classics on the DS were emulated. It's kind of sad really.
Even the Sonic Classics on the DS were emulated. It's kind of sad really.
It makes no sense. Now that I think about it, I had a PC version of Sonic 3 too, and yet that is emulated as well? Is Sonic CD emulated like this?

Is Sonic CD emulated like this?
If I remember right, the PC version of Sonic 3 (& Knuckles) was a complete recoding / port rather than emulation, if the MIDI songs and other factors are anything to note (some songs even being brand new). Sonic CD (the new version, anyway) is basically a fan remake on a fan Sonic engine with official backings, code and sourcing (or something like that) from SEGA themselves, instead of simple emulation.
Is the new version worth getting compared to the other versions out there
It's got both the US and JP soundtracks (albeit You Can Do Anything's lyrics had to be cut into an instrumental due to copyright), it's pretty faithful as far as I can tell, and when you beat it you unlock Sonic 2 Tails (with his Sonic 3 flying, I think). Haven't seen any issues yet aside from the occasional 'stuck in a wall' thing all of the old games had anyway. It doesn't have a large amount of extra content, as far as I know, but i'm willing to say this newest release is the best version of the game. You can get it on Playstation Network, iPhone and Live Arcade, but it's on sale for $5 on Steam. v:v:v On the topic of Sonic CD, this is a personal opinions rant; i'm not a fan of the level design. It maintains Sonic 2's style of physics and momentum, but the levels are a lot more exploration-based than its 3 (or 4, if you count & Knuckles as something separate) Genesis brothers - which tends to result in hitting a wall and losing a chance at time travel, backtracking to find that damnable Past post so you can destroy the machine generator for a Good Future, and other things. Seems I can't even hold onto 50 rings by the end of a level to get a chance at the Time Stones. Oh well, i'll just have to get used to it all. EDIT: There's also the random factor or two that really makes it feel like the developer(s) really paid attention to Sonic; in the option settings, you can toggle whether you can Spindash, do the 'timed rev' of the original Sonic CD, or the button-mash style of Sonic 2 and beyond (albeit with no tone changes in the rev sound).
I've never actually played sonic CD before so extra content isn't that big a concern of mine, but if this new release is the definitive version (and this easy to acquire) then I'll grab it. Thanks.
I have Sonic CD on my Android. But its really difficult to use of course being a touch screen. If I had the money to waste I'd buy this in a heartbeat on steam.

The game isn't on sale, it's $5 everywhere expect in the iOS, which is $2.
I have Sonic CD on my Android. But its really difficult to use of course being a touch screen. I hope Sonic 4 Episode 2 uses the Generations engine.
I hope Sonic 4 Episode 2 uses the Generations engine.
Keep hoping.
I hope Sonic 4 Episode 2 uses the Generations engine.
It doesn't.
I hope Sonic 4 Episode 2 uses the Generations engine.
Well keep praying, I'm sure it's gonna have the Sonic 4 Ep 1 Psychic (horrid).
Well keep praying, I'm sure it's gonna have the Sonic 4 Ep 1 Psychic (horrid).
They've already said they're using a new engine for Ep2. Not the Generations engine, though.
The Generations engine was practically perfect.
Allow people to go where they want WHEN they want. If I wanna fucking backtrack through a stage to get a missing ring, I should be able to(unless if there was a specific event where I couldn't go back). Some of Generations and most of Colors and a LOT of Unleashed did this.
The Generations engine was practically perfect.
I had some errors with the camera being on the wrong side of sonic during the 2.5d parts.
So, how many of these games are worth getting? I never played Sonic as a kid, so I'm doing really badly in Generations, but it's still fun enough that I'm considering buying a few others.
Ahhhhh, Sonic Adventure DX, glitched as hell but still enjoyable.
DX wasn't glitched please don't tell me it was glitched these rose tinted glasses still work for now
would I be able to use an xbox 360 controller with Sonic DX?
Speaking of Sonic Adventure, I have a surprise for you guys that should show up in a week
Speaking of Sonic Adventure, I have a surprise for you guys that should show up in a week
sonic adventure giveaway?
Sega didn't do this release of Sonic CD. Blit did.
NO. It is very important to me that the man who did this gets proper credit. The primary guy behind this port is Christian Whitehead, known on the internet as The Taxman. He wrote a 2D game engine (the "Retro Engine") from scratch for his own Sonic fangame, then pitched a port of Sonic CD built on it to Sega, and they were so impressed they hired him. Blit only took his work and ported it to consoles/PC; Whitehead did the mobile versions and the base Xbox Live version by himself. [editline]21st January 2012[/editline]
They've already said they're using a new engine for Ep2. Not the Generations engine, though.
From what I've heard from certain people I shall not name (but who I trust to know this stuff), it's not a new engine but merely a tweaked Episode I engine. Some things (like uncurling when rolling off slopes and standing on walls) have been fixed, but Sonic still stops instantly when you let go of a direction (ie, no momentum) and level design/music/art haven't been significantly improved. Basically, if you thought Episode I was shit, the next one won't really change your mind.

Hopefully the sales generated by this proper port will spur Sega into continuing to revive Sonic's past. Most amazing thing that could ever possibly happen: What if Sega were to begin sponsoring fan-game releases? Like, the cream of the crop gets published on Steam. We could get a new, Genesis-quality Sonic game a couple of times a year. Wouldn't that be awesome?
sonic adventure giveaway?
hahaha no silly
If they release SA2 on Steam you know they're going to get the rest of my wallet.
I never played Sonic Adventure 2, not even the Gamecube version. Sad I know. =(
