It's just a map. They are also probably playing zombie escape. Those horses are probably moving animated props which you jump on at some point and run away from the zombie players.

Resolution difference is because when I put BC2 in 1920 x 1080, the game looked distorted, yet I play all of my other games in 1080 just fine.
