The gamemode was Outbreak, one car starts as the virus carrier infecting other cars. When you're infected you get that nice green view.

Since I first got MEIOU for HTTT I haven't played vanilla since, it has more of a plausible "what if" feel to it and the devs are amazingly devoted with updating/support.
