Not to start a flamewar or anything. But I see that you are going for 128x AA or something. May I ask how that is different from 8X. Is it really that much smoother that it magically improves everything? Now it may sound sarcastic, but I am not. I actually want to see if 128x is really good or if you are just doing it simply because you can. My question is just that is it really that important to have smooth edges? But then again, you are free to do that if you want to. Still interesting to see what kind of crazy stuff people can come up with.
Firstly, because I enjoy learning. And I enjoy learning all sorts of various options for graphics. Unless your monitor was 1080p but literally like 20 feet, 128x over 8x wouldn't make a difference probably, but perhaps if someone was doing professional work on a trailer and had to make sure without a doubt it's a smooth edge they would either simply render an insane resolution like 16000x9000 some how or run it through a insanely high sample AA process. So No, I don't plan on playing at that, highest I normally do is 16xQ CSAA for minecraft, but I enjoy expanding some of my knowledge of graphical options and 128x just sounds so insane I have to try it. I used to make videos where I would render out 2,400fps half life 2 videos for super high sample motion blur. That video was something like 1400GB for 50 seconds. Worth it. Because I learned a lot about the stuff involved with recording huge projects. [editline]21st September 2011[/editline]
"minuscule" is debatable; It's a night/day difference in some titles. As far as resource consumption goes, a decent mid-range to high-end video card will be able to render 8xAA with no noticeable performance impact. I've got a GeForce GTX 460 and there is maybe a 1fps difference between no AA and 8xAA when playing the vast majority of my titles. The only game I see a substantial performance drop in is Crysis or Bad Company 2.
That's partly due to Bad Company 2's really retarded engine where AA does nearly nothing except on the gun. 32xAA and 1xAA look the same to me.
Yea so basically nvidia made a tool to re-do the bug that would do SSAA on the whole scene. Unfortunately it doesn't work all the time. You need to set a specific MSAA mode to match it apparently. Also you said you ran 128x MSAA, I didn't get a response that I understood. I'm guessing you used inspector? Is it this: I may mess with it tomorrow.
yeah that's it, it didn't work for me and I'm guessing it was a memory limit or something probably won't work on 99% of games unless they're extremely easy on memory
Or lack, therof. AA doesn't work so great with the foliage and Im not really a fan of AA
there's quite clearly a SHIT load of aliasing in that screenshot if you have an NVIDIA card, try out some transparency AA.
Good thing I have more video memory that most people have system memory. :smug:
Good thing I have more video memory that most people have system memory. :smug:
you realize it mirrors in multi-card configurations right
Well I couldn't beat your time yet, rampage, but I'll get there soon enough: [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WILuYlxkLHs[/hd]
you realize it mirrors in multi-card configurations right
Of course I do. Still 3GB. I'm not speaking in reference to this forum. Most machines at my job are upgraded from their default 1gb or 2gb. I just find it kind of funny.
wow is that screenshot of the ipad version or what [editline]21st September 2011[/editline] damnit my automerge
How do you make L4d2 look nice? From what I've seen it always looks like arse. Have some minecraft at a large rez.
1) What? 2)
Is there a way to apply nvidia SSAA to only certain applications?
I'm trying to play Hard Truck Apocalypse past the first fucking map and get some screenies of good trucks, but the devs were so. fucking. lazy. while making it. They put zero effort into what could have been an amazing, unique game. Instead it ended up being a poorly designed, albeit fun, game, but it has terrible level design, bad coding (it constantly crashed, and refuses to load saves in Vaterland [the second map in the story]) and poor models. [editline]22nd September 2011[/editline] If anyone's got a good patch for it i'd thank you forever

Did some roleplaying today, our Chief of Security had a Caffine overload, he was also wearing the wrong uniform
http://downloads.guru3d.com/NVIDIA-Inspector-1.94-download-2612.html
The only thing I could find with that was FXAA, and I didn't think that was the same as super sampling?

Might as well post here to for those who want to watch. Another gameplay vid. Sorry about it being not so smooth, forgot to lower Frap's FPS.
4:50 almost killed a friendly by spamming grenades in capzone. ...there aren't much dumber things you can do.

Sadly there are lots of people who demand stupidly high AA and other things just because they claim it makes a huge difference during gameplay. But like I said, for trailers and stuff then I can understand why you would want to get as high as possible. I take it that the 1400GB video was never uploaded? :v:
