Thats because the graphics have been capped. 'Ultra' is actually medium-high.

Common sense in what way? Graphics can change from a Beta of a game before it's released, they're not just locked in solid for a BETA, you know something that isn't the final product, unless they've stated it is part of the final product you're just talking shit.

show me a game where the graphics have changed drastically for a preset that was available in the game during its public beta/demo

Look at any game in "beta" in the past years, hell half of them release in what I'd call beta. The shadow maps probably aren't going to be any bigger in release I can assure you that, not that I care about the graphics that much.

feh, it's not crysis like levels of detail but it's pretty damn good, and the graphics are only part of the (pretty damn amazing) experience, the UI, sound design, animation and controls are all top notch

Nothing ever changes drastically, bumping the graphics up so they're higher resolution is something i've seen done in patches though. (Also you never mentioned drastically before but Halo 3 Graphics changed)

Yes they did change, Spartans looked a bit higher resolution and so did the vehicles.
The only time graphics have changed drastically though in a Beta was the Borderlands Beta, but everytime something like that has happened it has never been a public beta.

First, the games ULTRA setting is actually medium/high.
Second, I agree, this is more a demo than a beta. There is less than a month till the game is released. Do you really expect them to iron out all the horrible bugs that are in this 'beta' by then?
