That's not really the fault of the engine though, that's more the fault of developers using textures that are designed to work with console hardware limitations. Either way though, it's frustrating.

it's mainly space limitations, if you rendered all your cutscenes at 1080p then unless you compressed the fuck out of them you'd probably need 2 dvds

If it means I can stop looking at cutscenes that look like they came from a badly compressed HD Youtube file, then they can use 4 discs for all I care. Nothing takes me out of the game faster than to go from gorgeous, crisp ingame visuals to a badly compressed movie.

I don't know how much video they have, but an like half an hour of 1080p video decent compressed could be smaller than you imagine. Perhaps 800-900mb.
My Metro 2033 playthoughs at 20minutes and 1080p were about 800-900mb, and those had really heavy movement, if it's characters talking and moving, it might be smaller.
Also Good quality 720p upscales really well. 1080p isn't too necessary.
