Yeah, once you play it again you see a lot of actual bad mapping. But the Episodes are fucking great though.
But this particular level is outside and outside areas look bbad in source. At least in HL2.

The game as a whole is still fantastic, as far as I'm concerned. FakeFactory has done a pretty good job making the game look more up to date, barring his horrific character redesigns. Fortunately, those are optional.
I prefer vanilla though. One of the most epic moments is when you leave the station during Water Hazards where you get a gun on your boat.
Soon as you leave the tunnel, awesome music kicks in and you can shoot the shit out of everyone!

cinematic mod is OK but it replaces all the music for some fucking reason which fucking blows
My only real gripe with HL2's environments were the coast sections and most of the canals. They just seem to bland. Everywhere else seems fine to me.
