the scenes in that game look that way because of no anti aliasing and the sharpen filter, nothing else
in fact, the only one of those where specular mapping is really apparent has almost no aliasing

no you can see visible aliasing on the textures as well as the edges, afaik that's specular aliasing

I fucking love the witcher 2, I think it's the most beautiful game ever made, doesn't mean I can't point out flaws in it. The fact that it looks so good makes the few graphical flaws more apparent.
The fact that the game is poorly optimized is one good criticism.
Decided to pick up Portal 2 on PC yesterday since it was only $7, I already have it on Xbox but I bought it for custom maps, online friends, etc.

You can force AA on with nVidia Inspector if you have an nVidia card. Not sure about AMD.
(Or you could it in beta, at least. That's what I did.)

I like the look of it. When you get into the lore, the art style makes perfect sense.

Aye, it's damn beautiful alright. One glaring problem is the "dead eye" syndrome that i thought to have been cured since 2009. Seems not.

I haven't and i can follow the plot completely. I'm not loosing anything. There are small cameo's but you can pretty much dismiss them with the fact that you don't remember and they'll go "WHA!? FUCK YOUU!" or something equal. I'd recommend it. Gog.com had it for 18$ a week ago.

no, specular aliasing is aliasing on specular maps, aliasing on textures (assuming the texture is just that, a specular map is part of a texture) and edges is just aliasing

I loved the first one, personally, besides the sometimes boring combat. The atmosphere of the world was awesome. Can't really go wrong for the $2.50 it was on Steam yesterday.
EDIT: In fact, I liked the first one better in a lot of ways.
Got the Enhanced Edition retail on my shelf. Haven't been able to get into it beyond the tutorial. I might just Read the books and THEN go play it.
I think its problem is that it takes a lot of the bad baggage along from being an Old-School RPG. Witcher 2 seems to be the sensible evolution for an RPG with only one controlled Character. It's still more of an RPG than any Bioware title with the possible exception of BG series and DA:O.

in all honesty it's a lot better optimised than certain other games (batman arkham city and saints row 3 spring to mind), you just need a beast of a GPU
