New units and rules are quite great, IMO. The fluff is completely rubbish though.

Manageable from my understanding. They can hold their own in CC, but you shouldn't charge them into Combat to win.

I agree completely.
I am going to change from Necrons to Chaos (Rubric Marines) because of this change. I am just not comfortable with them anymore.
How new to 40k are you? Kinda curious.

Very new, I first started when 5th Ed Tyranid Codex just came out.
I just bought a tau fire team to kick-start my army, what should I do next? I was going to purchase a codex but apparently it's getting updated soon. Should I buy one now or wait?

I have mine to hand here, your commander will be either a Commander in a Battlesuit, or an Ethereal. The commander is T5, so he's a pretty tough sonnuvabitch and can take 3 battlesuit weapon systems as well as additional gear. These will be either flamers, fusion blasters, missile pods, plasma rifles etc.
The Ethereal is generally with his special bodyguard. He allows any T'au Unit within Line of Sight, to reroll failed morale checks etc. If he dies, every T'au Unit takes an Ld check or they fall back. I'd recommend the Commander as, any enemy with an ounce of common sense will kill the Ethereal and let
the Ld 7 Fire Warriors run themselves out of town.

I was contemplating using shadowsun as commander, but I think I'll take your advice.
Very new, I first started when 5th Ed Tyranid Codex just came out.
Well if you have any Thousand Son questions pass them by me. My army is centered around The Thousand Sons and The Scourged. I guess its more centered around Tzeentch, but hey. Only three or so legions that are dedicated to the god.
Eventually in the far, far future I'm going to make a Spireguard army.
I was contemplating using shadowsun as commander, but I think I'll take your advice.
Not just yet, Shadowsun carries two Fusionblasters and a doodad that allows her to shoot at two different units. She has a command-link drone as wellthat allows all units within 18 inches to substitute their Ld for Shadowsuns. I'd recommend using Shadowsun later on in your army, the default Tau Commander costs 75 points by himself, without any of the necessary upgrades. Shadowsun costs 175.

Which model is the "default tau commander?"
Which model is the "default tau commander?"
The Tau Commander, Shas'O or Shas'El. The Shas'O has better BS, 4 Wounds and an Extra attack and 10 Ld, the Shas'El has one less of everything, for 50 points. The Shas'O costs 75.

I'm not quite following. I think that the crysis battlesuit commander can be constructed Into either 'O or 'El, or is it based on wargear or something entirely different?

No, it's a different statline, but they take up the same role. The Shas'O is simply a bit better than the 'El. Both have access to the same gear, for the same price, it's just that the 'O is more likely to hit with his gear than the 'El, for a few points more.

I'm a newbie, so would you please explain to me this statline thing?
I'm a newbie, so would you please explain to me this statline thing?
Would be better if you had the codex.
Each unit has stats to determine dice rolls and such.
Weapon Skill- Used in assault rolls for determining the chance of hitting, it is compared to the opponents WS.
Ballistic Skill- The dakka skill, determines if you hit with non template shots. Its is figured by subtracting your BS from 7. So if you have a BS of 5 you need 2+ on a d6 to hit. If rolling for a blast template, subtract this from the 2d6 to determine scatter.
Strength- Weapons have their own strength, Model strength is used in assault. Compared with targets toughness to see if it wounds.
Toughness- The higher the better. Makes you harder to take a wound.
Wounds- Basically life points. If you take unsaved wounds equal or greater than this number, the model is removed.
Initiative- Higher number attack first in assault
Attacks- Numbers of attacks in assault. SOME MODELS HAVE MORE THAN THEIR STATLINE SAYS. Check equipment and see.
Leadership- Used in a variety of tests. Mostly to see if your unit runs away. Higher the better.
Save- This is the units armor save. If you take an unsaved wound you can use this save or a cover/invulnerable save if available. But this stat is it armor save. It is the dice roll you need to save your model from a wound. If a weapon has the same or lower Armor piercing value as your save, you cannot take the armor save, other saves can be take if it has them, provided the weapon does not ignore cover or invulnerability. Most troops dont have invun saves.
^ Yeah, what he said.
My mistake, I thought he meant statline as something else. I'm not that new that I don't know what the basics are, but some subjects confuse me. I had the assault on Black reach set and read through the rule book, so I assume I know most Of the basics.

Ah okay.
And I'll probably be purchasing a codex soon, after I get a new hard drive. For now, I'll just paint my fire warriors.
Well have fun and thin your paints.
Oh and remove mold lines. I'm doing that now with a million fucking renegade legs. So many fucking legs.
Alright, so here is a rather silly question. Considering that I don't really know anyone at the game store, how would one set up for a game?
Alright, so here is a rather silly question. Considering that I don't really know anyone at the game store, how would one set up for a game?
All of these questions are explained in the book.
I am going to change from Necrons to Chaos (Rubric Marines) because of this change. I am just not comfortable with them anymore.
As great as rubric marine fluff is... the tabletop world of Chaos is bleak. Fielding rubric marines means you've already lost.
Sure they have beastly bolters, but it's adding more shooty to a shooty army. What you really need are plague marines...
BUT the bright side of being a Chaos fan is that 6th ed offers endless promise with a fresh codex.
The future is so bright my retinas are being burned out in a slaaneshi act of staring into the sun. Wait.. is that right? That's not right...

if you're ever playing skirmish DON'T PLAY AGAINST CHAOS on difficulties higher than easy unless you want to be utterly raped in the balls by approximately 300 Chaos Marines with Heavy Bolters and a metric fucktonne of Defilers

IN THE FIRST 3 MINUTES
Whats a bitch is they are the first people it makes me attack in the campaign and i want to play as necrons.
If you capture that starport area it makes life easier but GOD FUCKING DAMN THAT STARPORT LEVEL!
It is time for me to go back to the Army again. They never did put "Cult Mechanicus" on my dog tags. They just put Other-Rel.
Also there is still a somewhat mindless necron army... you know, the ones who have their personalities wiped and they only seek to kill other necron leaders, wipe more necrons and absorb them into a larger army with the sole goal of collecting every single necron (gotta catch 'em all) and killing every single non-necron (noncron)
I like the new codex but that's like saying "hey, just because GW retconned 50% of the Space Marines into women doesn't mean you can't run an all-man chapter!"

As far as fluff goes, anybody have anything on the Elysian Drop Troops? They seem like an interesting IG planet and I'd like to know what you guys know about them that isn't in the Lexicanum. Give me your secret knowledge.
