What if he had a colored belly, I wondered? What if I gave him pads on his feet? In this quick little skin mod, I set out to find out just that. In the end, personally, I can't seem to visualize the Enderdragon without the changes I've made.

[B][h2]How I did it[/h2]
[I]For those interested in what went into what went into making the skin, read on in this segment. Otherwise, you can skip ahead to "Why I did it."[/I][/B]
Before you ask, I used Paint.NET to modify the skin. The process is simple enough to understand, but tedious as hell. To make things easy(ish) on myself, I used a simple formula for recoloring the dragon: Add 100 to each RGB value. If a scale's RBG value is 28,28,28, I would change it to 128,128,128. The color may not be exactly the same as his spikes and wings, but for convenience's sake, I decided it was close enough, especially since the resulting color is very close to the color of his spikes and such. In retrospect, I could've just created a new layer, painted black where I wanted him to have color, and then changed the opacity to achieve the desired color. I [I]could[/I] have done that, but that was before such an idea crossed my mind; I wasn't all that familiar with Paint.NET at the time. So what I wound up doing was coloring in each individual segment of pixels.
The layer opacity technique did, however, come in handy further down the line. Initially, the dragon's belly and pads were essentially just the solid color; they didn't fade from black to grey like they did in the finished product. Using the layer opacity technique, I added shading to the edges of the grey spots. I didn't use any specific color or opacity value; I just eyeballed it. The shading made for a much more natural transition and made it look much more appealing. I'm glad I did it in the end; he looks way better.

I know he's an Enderdragon, but that doesn't mean he has to be 96% black. He's a dragon. Why not give him a lighter colored belly? Go do a Google Images search on "dragon" and you'll see that a lot of the dragons follow that design principle. It just makes the dragon look better for some reason. If other dragons could have it, why not the Enderdragon? And I think he looks a lot better with it; I even extended it down his tail and up his neck. Then I decided to take it another step further and I gave him pads on his feet. For some reason or another, I find his feet pads to be the most welcome addition of all. Now before you call "foot fetish" on me, allow me to point to Charizard. I'm no fan of Pokemon myself to say the least, but if Charizard can justify having pads on his feet and still being ferocious, why not the Enderdragon? I honestly don't know why, but I especially love how his feet pads turned out.
[B][h2]Feedback[/h2]
[I]I've shown the skin to a few friends, and feedback has been generally positive. More on that in this bit.[/I][/B]
I've posted about this on the Minecraft Forum (the one hosted by Minecraft and not the subforum in which this thread is located) a couple times, but it saw virtually no feedback. I showed it around to friends and they all agreed that it's an improvement. A number of them even proposed it should be implemented officially into the game. But if anyone knows the best way to show something like this to Notch or Jeb and have them actually notice it, kindly let me know. If it was implemented into the game officially, I'd be moderately surprised and incredibly happy. The pads on his feet really stood out, one friend told me. He said it's like the first thing you see. One good thing I can say about the belly and pads, personally, is that they do make the dragon stand out more. He doesn't blend into the darkness or anything. To have him stand out, I would think, is a good thing because it makes him look better and more likely to catch your attention.
I've also been told that when you get a closer look at the Enderdragon when he's not trying to attack you, he actually looks kinda cute. The belly and feet pads enhance his appearance and make him all the more adorable. Was he supposed to be adorable? Probably not, but just because he looks cute doesn't mean he's now been given a totally non-threatening appearance. I point once again to Charizard. And the turrets from Portal. They all have one thing in common: They may look cute at first, but you won't be thinking that for long once they start attacking you. You might find yourself wanting to tickle the Enderdragon's feet they're so cute, but will you be thinking that when those same feet are trying to squish you? I wouldn't think so myself.

This skin is simplistic and your form is conceited. This is like, one of those things you put in a texture pack and not even mention it's that unimportant.

I didn't say it looked like shit, I was responding to the fact that he said "if you nitpick I'll tell you to shut the fuck up" and proceeded to write an essay on how much work he did using the circle tool in paint in 3 different places.
