Gman is a Man.
Gman probably isn't physically real. Just a puppet that a yet-to-be-discovered alien race uses to communicate with Gordon.
G-Man is Gordon from the feauture, duh!
All you need is a little knowledge of American history to figure this one out. The term “G-man” was a reference to a person in the 1920’s to about the 50’s that worked for the U.S. Government, specifically the FBI. So, using this, I formulated this theory. G-Man is a superhuman form that is immune to death, pain and emotions in general. He has figured out the secret to immortality (sound familiar?) and is now in the employment of others with immortality. G-Man isn’t exactly “god” because would god need to make appearances at an event to control a variable? No. G-Man’s position requires a little dirty work. No, Gordon is not G-Man’s puppet, as that theory just doesn’t work. In HL1, G-Man can be seen in hazardous areas calm, cool and collected. He has set the whole thing up, and knew what the outcome would be when the dominoes fell. Occasionally there would be a variable, and he has to enter the situation and tweak the problem so he is still in control. Another problem with a lot of other theories is that G-Man is enemies with the inhabitants of Xen and that he sends Gordon Freeman in to deal with it. This doesn’t work because if G-Man and inhabitants of Xen were enemies, G-Man could simply dispose of them without getting Earth involved. My theory on this is that, however powerful G-Man is, his powers are limited to Earth. This also explains why the vortigaunts resist him in HL2 ep1. Anyway, the nihilith or whatever its called is defeated, and the fate of Xen is uncertain from there. Perhaps it was taken by the combine. In HL2, Gordon, being enslaved by G-Man in a way, is plucked out of stasis and signed over to another immortal being that is pitted against Wallace Breen and the combine (Quite possibly Eli Vance) Wallace is on the verge of discovering immortality and, as evil as he may be, is actually trying to help humanity obtain it. G-Man can’t have the secret released like that, and must stop Breen before he finds it. So, in a way, Eli Vance and G-man are working together on this one, which may explain the “our mutual friend” quote. However, once Breen is defeated, G-Man plucks Gordon out of the situation and puts him back in stasis, leaving Alyx to die.(Obviously he regretted saving her from Black Mesa in the first place) The vortigaunts, however, see the importance of Alyx, and save her using THEIR time-distorting abilities. But look how MANY of them it takes to save Alyx. At least fifteen. So, fifteen vortigaunts and their magic equals one G-Man. It’s obvious G-Man and the vorts are enemies. Now, when Gordon is saved by the vorts, he is released from the employment of G-Man. The rest of the game is basically G-Man fighting the vortigaunts and trying to regain Gordon. But, when G-Man tell Gordon to go to White Forest and tells Alyx the message, at that point he may have snuck in under the vortigaunts’ noses and recaptured Freeman. It is also at this point that G-Man realizes Eli Vance has mobilized against him and is hiding behind the vortigaunts power to avoid death by G-Man. Perhaps, now that G-Man has Alyx and Gordon headed for white forest, he reset his dominoes and now was in control again. He tips off the combine the location of Vance. Proving that no one double crosses G-Man, Eli Vance dies a rather gruesome death. My guess for Ep. 3 is that they find out a whole bunch of stuff about Eli (Because EVERY TIME no matter what it is, tv show, movie, videogame, whenever someone important dies, they always find out secrets that the departed was hiding) and Alyx will learn somehow about G-Man and how her father was playing him until his death. G-Man is not Gordon Freeman. G-Man is not related to Gordon in any way. G-Man is not god. G-Man is not an alien. G-Man is not a 27-year-old-man-molestor G-Man is not Dr. House from the future. G-Man is not George W. Bush. For now, all I want is Freeman’s Mind for Half life 2.
Why do people insist on coming up with theories for something that will most likely be revealed in the next game?!
Gman is a G
Gman is swamp gas
G(ordon)-(Free)Man At the end of episode 3 Gman will reveal he's actually Gordon from the future and then the world will explode and a paradox will happen.
Why do people insist on coming up with theories for something that will most likely be revealed in the next game?!
Is it better that he bumped an old thread to do it rather than create yet another one?
G-man is the name that came from the community he does not have an official name And this is in the wrong section
This question has similarities to other games, such as Legend of Zelda. Where people are trying to figure out the general timeline of the games. (which one of them came first and which one of them came last?) Nintendo made it easy for themselves and simply said "there is no freaking timeline! We are talking about games that we're realeased on the NES, thousands of years ago. We could not plan a timeline this far" and even with this knowledge a lot of people are STILL trying to come up with a timeline to the games, the most common is based upon a split timeline with 2 kinds of the same link in two different dimensions...yes, I'm serious. So don't go and say that G-man theories are stupid, some people like to take stuff beyond the game itself, with such things as G-man theories and split timelines. If you don't like it then you can go and play some football. Outside. now to the real answer: Even though as I want G-Man to be one of the good guys he seem to be a baddie after everything. But I have my own opinion on this. What if you kill G-mans employers in episode 3, there has to be something big for that long of a wait. My guess is that you will somehow either find out about the "origins" of this special man or you will find out about his employers in the next episode.
Dumb theories... DUMB THEORIES EVERYWHERE...
G-man is the name that came from the community he does not have an official name And this is in the wrong section
Wrong and wrong, If you look up the model itself in HL1 it says G-man. Thats why he is called G-man, would be odd if everyone started to call a guy G-man out of nowhere. And how could this be the wrong section. Half life is a game so anything evolved around half life shoudld be in the games section, it surely doesn't fit in love advice if thats what you mean.
gman is a reptilian

SINCE I BEGAN TALKING ABOUT THE REPTILIAN CONNECTION, THE OPPOSITION HAS BEEN INCREASED SUBSTANTIALLY. WHY? IF I AND THE ENDLESS PEOPLE ANCIENT AND MODERN WHO HAVE SEEN THE SHAPE-SHIFTERS ARE SO MISGUIDED, WHY HAS THE OPPOSITION INCREASED SO MUCH SINCE THE BIGGEST SECRET WAS PUBLISHED AND NOT THE OPPOSITE?"
[editline]03:45PM[/editline] http://www.davidicke.com/
G-man is supposed to be God, just look at the name.
G-man is a 50's term for "Government Man". This comes up in every single HL theory thread.
g-man doesnt tell gordon where to go there is literally only one way to go
He's a well dressed pedophile who stalks 27 year old men, forcing them to do things while he jacks off from a distance, but walks away when aforementioned 27 year olds get close so they don't see him jacking off. Gman is Gordons autistic father.
Gman's employer is valve. Nihilanth saying 'truth you will never know the truth' means Gordon will never know that the player is controlling him and that it's a game. Same thing resonates in our world as we will never know the ultimate truth either.
Gordon is a fisher-man.
Hes apart of the gman squad !
I saw on deviantART a picture that showed a strange blob-like being with little white eyes and G-Man attached to wires and a headpiece, the description said that the artist's theory that the Man is merely an Avatar that the real G-Man speaks through, My theory is his "Boss" just wants to make the battle between the Combine and the Rebels interesting, like the Announcer in TF2, he just wants to see two forces kill each other for his amusement, or perhaps G-Man is a part of Freeman, perhaps he's some embodiment of his dark side, or some alternate reality incarnation who knows the outcome and sent to make sure it stays that way, or maybe, his boss wants both sides wiped out so he can take over the planet? Its a giant puzzle, I think this is why Gaben is delaying episode 3, he's reading our comments, taking notes, and using them in Episode 3 where we find out Who and What G-Man is, who does he work for, and what does his "Boss" want with the Good Doctor?

Its the best educated guess I can come up with, but who knows? Only time will tell
Wow, what an almighty bump.
