well, i still think i should be ranked a lot higher in standard as well - i just don't farm PP like i should.

think about how upset i was that i failed the windmill sliders when you consider that's usually the ONLY PART OF THE MAP I DON'T FAIL ON
Not many play easy and shitty converted difficulties.
Taiko specific maps have significantly more ranked scores.
well i didn't mean it as "number of people who've completed auto-converted maps" :v:, i meant more along the lines of this:
When i was playing mania, I had never played a 7k mania-type game before, so I had to start out with normal/hard variants of auto-converted maps because those are generally the easiest. (I have played 4k/5k type games before though, and was pretty good at it). It took me about 30 Bs/Cs before I broke 100k, and I didn't get to below 60k until I started getting A/S on auto-converted insanes. I didn't drop below 15k until I started getting relatively high ranks on hard/insane mania-specific maps. And now i'm currently hovering at ~9.5k
Comparing it to taiko, where I got rank 60,000 after getting 5 Cs and 1 B, it felt to me like there were very few people even playing taiko. Doubly so, seeing as i've never even seen taiko before in my life. The most i've seen of it is the few screenshots in FP osu! threads, and the few rare times it appears in anime where some random character is ungodly good at it as a gag. The first 10 or so plays of taiko were me trying to play taiko-specific maps and failing. All of the taiko maps i've seem to have gathered only are oni diffculty, and i'm sure as hell not taking on that without any knowledge of taiko to begin with.
Taiko does have a significantly smaller playerbase and even less people who actually actively play and can play even the easier stuff considerably well. You can with ease get down to #300 by pretty much only playing converted difficulties, because apparently the gamemode is "hurr very hard" and everyone who try it out get demoralized to the point of them not ever picking it up again. Yes, I've seen that happen countless times (please stop taiko really isn't hard at all).
#60k is still about the level of people who tried it once and never picked it up again, but I can pretty much say that about the same range applies for all other modes as well.
I'd nevertheless not recommend playing converted difficulties even if you're a complete beginner. At least play taiko specific ones such as "muzukashii" difficulties. The issue with converted maps is that close to all of them are the same dddkdddk pattern repeated all over again, which wont really teach you anything. Even if you do bad at it, improvement comes from challenging yourself.

I find it hard to play taiko and mania because my monitors have ghosting issues, everything is just a blur.
yea i think i have 2 or 3 "muzukashii" diffs actually. one of my Cs are from that one

I've pixel clocked mine from 60 to 66hz so it's a bit smoother looking in taiko. Also, play taiko with the smallest possible windowed widescreen resolution (1024 x 600), that way the beats move a shorter distance on the screen, reducing blur significantly.
i use an old (any heavy) CRT so i don't really have any latency/ghosting at all. I guess that's one plus for never buying a new monitor in 10 years
it literally takes up the entire size of my desk though, so I can't sit in a chair at my desk unless I want to go blind :v:

Yeah that's ginka - oriens I see there, good song but the oni is shite :(
Just searching for "muzukashii" should get you loads though.

I got a 120hz monitor, but I didn't get it for taiko only and I quite frankly didn't struggle at all at 60hz, even on cray cray SVs.
Smooth scrolling isn't a necessity if you got these things called ears, but I suppose getting to the point where you don't really need the visuals for more than knowing what to tap can take a while. Once you get the hang of it you'll probably understand though.
Also, play taiko with the smallest possible windowed widescreen resolution (1024 x 600)
This is important as well. I and just about all the people I know can't at all play at bigger resolutions, especially if you got a fairly large monitor.

I use a CRT too. It's still a big blur to me.
i'm still looking for a CRT to purchase so i can go 120hz for a bit cheaper than a 3D monitor. it helped most of my stepmania friends IMMENSELY with their ability to read and hit accurately. sure sucks though that i can't FIND ANY

I have two Sony FW900's that I can't use because of a lack of appropriate output. I'm missing out so bad.

Honestly I'm not surprised, most people in #osu are like 10.
"OSU!droid has stopped working."
There goes my week
osu!droid crashes a shit ton.
I managed to commandeer a computer here though the only thing I could play on it is osu!mania.
I won't though. Gotta work
Work work work.
Winston never had a wig though
Gaspen was too much a fag to deal with baldness though because he thinks he's well hard
same shit different character sprites
how do i into tablet
do i hover and use keys? do i tap? how do i hold?
Hover with the pen, tap with KB.
I could never get hovering down, so I switched back to using a mouse. I'm way more accurate with a mouse anyways, and it doesn't slip out of my hand mid song...

okay i worked a little more on taiko. I'm still terrible, but i'm getting better at reading faster songs and even turned on HR (or DT) on some of the songs i was better at to try and improve.
this is my progress so far:

(for some reason the first 20 seconds recorded terribly)
I also played a little mania too; all I have to say is "Fuck sliders, man". The song's title didn't lie, i was definitely in agony.

After 50 seconds in it's slider hell. Although I suppose it's not as bad as another song I have.

Could you by any chance upload your skin and send me a link to it? Looks really cool and I'd love to use it myself.
You're not the only one asking, but hold on until I've finished it.
I'll make sure to write it down so I don't forget you babbycakes <3
