They don't lag to shit. They take a while to load cause they play the appropriate sounds when you hit the notes.
Which sucks because you never hit them perfectly so the music sounds mangled.
But the maps themselves are fucking SO MUCH better than what the computer makes up.

i normally browse facepunch inbetween every couple of failures to re-pace my eyes because they get used to moving too quickly if I constantly retry over and over. Everything starts to slow down and I keep expecting it to be a lot faster if I don't do something else for a bit. So yea, when I watch replays it seems like everything is moving at least 2x faster than I remember it.

Don't worry about it.
I was stuck at 200k+ for a long long time and then after a while I just suddenly jumped to 100k in just 1 day.
I stuck at #10,000-#11,000 for months now after I mysteriously dropped from mid #8,000.
And even with the new ppv2 Im ranked far behind my friend who is a lot worse than I and plays a lot less, even has lower scores.
Osu! will never have a good ranking that represents your skill.

You're right, your rank doesn't represent "your skill" and neither was it intended to. It represents your rank, your scores in comparison to others, and if you're not rising no matter how much you're trying your current rank is where you should be.

although that's not really true either, as your rank is based on PP, and you don't get PP unless you're like in the top #500 scores. You can consecutively beat the scores of someone on every map except 1 or 2, but still have all your scores lower than #500, and that same person can have 1 or 2 below #500 scores and outrank you.
so because I don't farm on pretty easy hard/normal maps with mods on, I'm ranked incredibly low. And I don't care enough about rank to actually play maps that I don't find to be fun. :v:

You can get pp for <500 scores, and in ppv2 you always will afaik.

I you want to be ranked higher than somebody you've got to beat all of their scores or beat some scores of somebody else ranked higher than you. You don't get pp from "playing normals/hards", you get the pp for beating players ranked higher than you, and because "rankwhores", hards are generally the difficulties to contest but only up until the point of where you're ranked higher than everyone contesting them. I can get #1s on hards all day and not get shit unless it's contested by #200 or lower players. With the exception of brand new maps, PP is pretty much in constant circulation.

You can earn just as much (and often more) from scoring well on harder maps. You don't at all need to farm easy maps for ranks, you just need to beat the higher ranked and most probably higher skilled opposition.
Despite all of this, your rank is not the equivalent of your "skill". You may require "skill" to obtain it, but it's only a measurment of how much you've put in to showing it. Beating scores of somebody better doesn't necessarily make you a better player than them.

it doesn't represent your score in comparison to others, it represents your score in comparison to the top 500 ranking scores of songs people may or may not have played. Although stating that you need to beat [i]all[/i] of their scores is far more accurate, because then you'd be kicking them from their top 500 slots (AKA the only maps they gained PP on)

No, this statement is true in the scenario of pp actually being calculated. You're not often, if ever going to get anything out of a C, regardless of difficulty. You're right in that scores rank <600 or whatever peppy set it at aren't (usually) calculated (yet), but this does not at all make harder maps necessarily give less pp. You will get more for beating a higher ranked opposition given you're good enough to contest it and get in to the range where it's actually calculated. This of course does have cases that differ, but you would get more pp for beating #3 lewa rather than #50.000 cooldude98

It's all preference, a lot of top players use full area but not fullscreen so just find whatever works best.

only reason why i'm even rank 247k (it lowered again!) is because I have a ton of 400-500 ranks on normal/easy/hard variants of really really old maps that suck and nobody ever wants to play because they're old. :v: If I didn't learn how to play osu on those shit maps I would be rank 1mil as well
