Tried this recently, this game would be so much better if the community wasn't full of weabutts. The lack of old electronic and pop music on the official site is just spooky. And when you finally find something you like, the beatmap is poop.
Also tags, your anime soundtrack is not classic english rock god damn it. Neither is Linkin Park
typically the only people who have enough time to actually finish a beatmap are the kind of spergs who unironically listen to OPs/EDs of anime on their MP3 players every day. There are a few exceptions, and that's why you'll occasionally find a non anime/hatsune-miku song.
if you want more non-shit music in osu, try beatmapping a song? It's pretty easy, but time consuming.
For some reason replays stutter a lot more than when you're playing. Badly coded replay system I guess.
it does that in standard too, i dunno about mania
[editline]24th August 2013[/editline]
also if you're not already good at osu you're guaranteed to make pretty shit maps

someone gimme some good ar10 practice maps pls

as far as I can tell mania replays are near perfect, but it might become more evident on the more extreme maps that I can't even fathom to play yet.

I tried. Started with getting the BPM right, got drunk, called my friend, came back home next day.
Patience sucks.
I agree, mapping if you're not an amazing player, is a waste of time. And if you're not a known player it's also a waste of time, as the whole beatmap ranking system heavily focuses on the already known mappers, who get priority treatment/help from the beatmap moderators. I remember one of the top mappers got his ranked within a couple of days from the moment he first submitted the map, while many of the more unfortunate, not-celebrity mappers have had their maps in the help forum for over a YEAR and still not getting it ranked (even when their maps were fine), simply because all the attention went to the "pro" "i make anime maps for a living" types of weeaboos.
I was pretty good at EBA and OTO, does that count?
as DS games, no. they're very easy in comparison to what most people would call the hard section of osu
Orkel, when I play that map you suggested to play to get better at Taiko, I feel myself constantly just mashing buttons to get the notes, maybe I have to play it a lot more, but that's just how it feels right now :/
And I don't feel progress at all...
Challenge yourself but in moderation. As orkel already mentioned, you want to play something challenging enough for you to improve, but not something that forces you to mindlessly mash buttons.
And play a lot of different maps as well.

Somewhat related but I recommend remapping the taiko keys from ZXXZ to ZZXX. One color for two fingers of each hand, makes it simpler.

alternatively DF/JK, as it's easier to hit with your hands and most keyboards have some form of outdent on those keys so you know where you are. They're also separated so you don't accidently hit one you don't want to.
I play ddkk but I wouldn't recommend it over kddk. I agree with that it's easier, but that only on easier maps and once you hit the wall of where improving is horribly hard you might regret not using kddk from the start.
I can with ease fc all the 1/4 parts of navor nocturnus and over my head but I can't fc the entire map because of ridic hard it is to play those 1/6s with one hand. The thing with kddk is that you can singletap everything, but with two hands. This is significantly easier than being forced to alternate on each individual hand.

I don't get what you mean. There's no sudden zzxx skill ceiling where you stop improving, it's just a matter of taste which style you use. I found zzxx easier from the start and am having no problems passing ridiculous insanes with it. Having played osu standard for years before taiko, doing taiko streams with two fingers of a hand feels much more natural than pressing one button with each hand.
I get the feeling that zxxz is just a "purist" thing, like playing fighting games with a stick rather than a keyboard. Or drinking wine from a normal glass rather than a wine glass.
there's not much point in arguing what play style is better because at the end of the day everyone is different
reminds me of the whole alternating issue in standard. some people actually look down at it for no reason other than that they don't do it
It's all about personal preference, but both have their advantages as well disadvantages.
Personally I slightly regret not learning kddk, but that's mostly because I can't at all play one colored streams at 230bpm+ with one hand, where as I don't struggle when using two.
You can of course use whatever you like, but I'm set on that kddk is very much beneficial in this way.

It's because alternating tends to leave people stuck and they won't get faster, plus it usually ruins their aim. I will always say that singletapping is "better" than alternating because there are only like 4 good exclusively alternating players in the game (as in top players). Alternating is fine to learn AFTER you learn to play without alternating, but it's not a great primary method of playing. I've spoken to lewa way too much about this but that's the only conclusion we ever logically came to.
I would guess that alternating is quite different in taiko so I won't comment on that. As much as people want to say "do what feels best" it's actually not true in some cases, some playstyles are just better than others.
I feel like I am steadily getting faster though. I only alternate and seems I can fairly reliably do some renard maps for example. And its not just cause I play them a few times a day. This speed up is universal.
Though I did get my ass handed to me yesterday lol.
Also beats for android is amazing in OSU mode
Alternating's fine, it can actually help with keeping in rhythm once you get used to it.
Use whatever you're comfortable with!
I feel like I've kind of hit a wall in getting better and it's really making me want to play less and less. My streaming is horrible and my aim is even worse. What do I dooo.

Practice, any good osu! player had this phase.
My hands are really shaky too, which sucks.

I was practically stuck and not improving for about 6 months, I know your pain.

Try turning your sensitivity down if it's a real issue.

I play on a tablet.
increase your area then
[editline]24th August 2013[/editline]
also make the pen side be as rigid as possible in wacom settings, it makes a difference

It is set to be as firm as possible, but.. why does that matter if I don't touch the tablet at all?
it doesn't change how the pen works with the tablet, it changes how the tablet interprets the movements. doesn't matter if it touches it
I didn't know that, thanks for the advice.
I should find new beatmaps to play. I mostly want to play stuff I can almost (but not quite) pass, because apparently that's the best way to improve.

Also, it's nice to see this thread getting more popular. It was buried deep for several months.

You should probably disable comments in replays.
EDIT: Or you could just.. delete your video entirely. I guess.
