haven't seen one
[editline]30th November 2013[/editline]
dunno how active a thread like that would be though, if there is one it's likely that it hasn't been bumped
probably, was thinking of making one for bemani games, but i doubt it would get any substantial posts
i could see a lot of the posters in this thread playing a few bemani games, so changing this thread a little is an idea
if it was changed to rythm games general id end up not even reading this one
Osu/BEMANI?
i don't think there are many other rythm games many people here would play
[editline]1st December 2013[/editline]
i know for a fact that a butt ton of facepunchers play DDR and alternatives, so there's that
EBA
love how hardest song on EBA is literally normal difficulty on osu
I'd say you'd probably learn better by just playing whatever is challenging, as long as you're not just mindlessly mashing buttons.
Practicing patterns separately is bad practice imo, you'd be better of getting used to reading on sight and playing actual maps rather than splitting everything up into unrealistic segments.
And even if it's hard, try not to practice on anything lower than muzu, preferably nothing lower than easy onis even. Play whatever you like though.
Don't forget to use Easy/Hardrock and Halftime/Doubletime where needed. They can be really useful, i.e this with DT+EZ which goes from singletapping to long streams with simple patterns.
Also you few taiko players, don't be afraid to approach me :pwn:
I'd be more than happy to play some taiko in multiplayer with you, even if you're new to it.
Cool, I may play some matches tomorrow, I need to play some harder songs anyway.
-snip wrong thread-
I don't play it as much as I did before, but... What the hell. I'm an user. This thread asks for users. There ain't a lot to think about that.

I guess I should post mine too since I haven't done that https://osu.ppy.sh/u/1695542 I only play taiko
I would love it if someone would suggest me some basic taiko maps to get started with.
[editline]3rd December 2013[/editline]
also general advice about taiko since nobody ever told me anything about it

I don't have time to get some maps right now, I'll find some later.
General advice: play with keyboard, not mouse. Practice maps that are somewhat challenging, nothing super easy or super hard.
that's about all i can think of right now, feel free to add me on steam or whatnot if you want somebody to play with/help you out.
Also, I'm sure Boats will be able to give you more helpful advice when he checks the thread
when playing taiko, the goal is to associate the red/blue notes with their respective keys/hands/presses.
when people talk about how your keys are laid out, they typically use the notation "DDKK" or "DKDK". This essentially means "[RED][RED] [BLUE][BLUE]" or "[RED][BLUE] [RED][BLUE]".
i'm weird so I use the keys "[D][F] [J][K]" == "KK DD"
experiment with what feels natural to you, and find something you're good at mashing keys with
if you consistently get A/S ranks on a map, use HR or DT until you can get an A on it again, and then move onto a different song
Small notes mean you only need to press 1 key to hit them. So a small red note, using my key configuration above, would mean you can press either [J] or [K]. it doesn't matter. A blue is the same, just with the other key configuration.
Big notes give you bonus points if you use both keys for that specific color. So for a Big Red Note, I would get bonus points if I used [J] and [K] at the same time.
Sliders require you to hit any of the keys to a 1/2 beat. Big sliders give you bonus points if you manage to do it with both keys
Spinners require you to alternate between red and blue back and forth

why would anyone even try to play taiko with a mouse lmao

Much more helpful than I was. I'm not really good with explaining things like that.
Also, I know some people who insist on playing taiko with mouse only, as dumb as that sounds

Since you asked for basic, I'll assume you are just starting out on taiko, so here are some easy beatmaps:
http://osu.ppy.sh/b/221868 Futsuu
http://osu.ppy.sh/b/285041 Kantan/Futsuu
http://osu.ppy.sh/b/228559 Kantan/Futsuu

http://osu.ppy.sh/b/298153 Kantan/Futsuu
http://osu.ppy.sh/b/303141 Kantan/Futsuu
With taiko specific beatmaps the difficulty from easiest to hardest is Kantan>Futsuu>Muzikashii>Oni>Inner Oni
I hope this post is more helpful than my other one

She gave some advice regarding Taiko on the previous page, I think.

Why? Play what you'd like, practice what you need to improve upon.
Sure practicing patterns is important, but the way you put it you're saying grades actually matter? They don't matter anywhere. If you're trying to improve then what matters is your overall progress even if you got a shitty score.
The goal should be consistency and that comes from variety rather than grinding the same map. The thing here is that you're basically suggesting memorizing every map you'll ever play.
That's just as bad as the TBT thing, barely any different from grinding the same pattern all over again.
And suggesting using DT right after you've barely pulled of a nomod fc? lol
Speaking of grades, hah grades

As for maps, if you're looking at fuutsu/kantan difficulties you might as well just play converted normals/hards.
She gave some advice regarding Taiko on the previous page, I think.
This page. Just scroll up a bit.

Why not? It's pretty fun.
taiko on a keyboard/mouse is just not the same
[editline]3rd December 2013[/editline]
it's decent on the psp tho
ty for all the info i will do my best to become the new taiko god
best on da arcade drums u can't deny
It's really sad that you've only got those machines in Japan apparently. I'd really love to play at one of those once, though it's already difficult enough to find a simple arcade here.
wtb taiko drums
maybe id actually want to learn taiko then
Dunno how many of you have seen this [sp]i know boat has[/sp] but last night Peppy officially announced the osu!tablet
https://osu.ppy.sh/forum/t/169139&start=0
[thumb]http://puu.sh/5zECD/e316d7b85b.png[/thumb]
looks pretty awesome and it's only 30USD+Shipping, I'll probably be picking one up, my Intuos is literally falling apart
wait wait wait
THIRTY? did you spell that right?
[editline]3rd December 2013[/editline]
HOLY SHIT IT IS
I want it.
[editline]3rd December 2013[/editline]
"Why so cheap?
I'm not looking to make a profit. Most osu! players don't have a huge disposable income, and my goal here is to allow everyone who wants to try a tablet to do so."
Peppy I swear I am buying supporter for life 10 times over
interesting
nice design too actually, a black version wouldn't go amiss (but he's already explained that he can't get them yet)
it has pressure sensitivity too? im gonna buy one just because osu
yeah the design is really nice and the specs are nearly identical to a wacom tablet so i really dont see the point in not buying one if youre looking to buy a tablet
[editline]3rd December 2013[/editline]
also peppy's whole "im not looking to make a profit" mentality on this is really great
i do not regret buying supporter
I guess I'm used to my bigger one and that's why, but looks so damn small...
i do not regret buying supporter
thanks for reminding me i repurchased my supporter
[editline]3rd December 2013[/editline]
peppy is pretty cool guy
How do you even pronounce Osu? Is it straight forward "Osu" or something like "uzz"?
"Ohs", Oh with a sharp S at the end, if the U is silent (can't remember). Otherwise, "Oh Sue".
