So I'm planning on buying it.
Should I get combined ops or just OA?
Do I "need" ArmA2 or is OA just much better?
COMBINED OPS. If you're going to get just one get OA, but seriously most of the mods out there and servers require combined ops or at least mess you up if you don't have combined ops.
You can't play on the Facepunch server for example if you do not have Combined Ops. Most of the time anyway.

Getting trackir was never the alternative for me
I couldnt get it to work properly, it was too annoying to play and a small head moment shot the camera across the screen.
I am going to go buy this as soon as I get a chance. But yeah the free version has been released. I'm downloading it now. Playing the demo right now though. I have created an obsession with this game as soon as I saw the videos of the guys on our forum playing together. Man that looks like so much fun.

You should try getting used to the in game editor. A very handy tool.

Theres millions of settings. :downs:
you adjust the settings when you start the game until it's fine.
Use the preview and move your head, if it's enough keep those settings, it's not very hard if you're not thick.

You'll get used to using it if you always have it on, it's like getting used to always using a mouse to look around, except now it's with moving your head very slightly.

Huh, sorry I meant I was using Freetracknoir, the one that works with your webcam. Does this do the same?

Oh, i have no idea about freetracknoir, i've never tried it, sorry i thought you mean freetrack :v:
Okay so I tried the demo out. After lowering the resolution into the 3 digits I am fine. That motion blur was killing me.
the game looks pretty bad now but its still a lot of fun single player. I can't wait to finish downloading the free version and then later get the real game. But I was told something by somebody on my friends list.
5:06 PM - krakadict: arma runs better with everything on high/veryhigh if your gfx card is better then cpu
5:11 PM - Mr. Sun: really
5:11 PM - Mr. Sun: hmm
5:11 PM - Mr. Sun: my computer seems to be pretty shit

5:15 PM - Mr. Sun: ok
5:16 PM - Mr. Sun: I'm not sure if I should buy it
5:16 PM - krakadict: wait for arma3
5:16 PM - Mr. Sun: because I cant figure out if i can run it
5:17 PM - Mr. Sun: when is that supposed to come out?

Motion blur as in everything isn't looking sharp?
Then you have to set the 3d resolution to 100% (if you haven't already), and drop post processing to low, very low, or disable it.
About some of the options: setting it to high or very high sometimes helps (less stress on cpu, more stress on gpu).
But arma is really cpu intensive, especially in areas with a lot of buildings.
Set terrain details very low
Go easy on AA and AF
Set video memory to default
Set Post processing to disabled

Only for the shadow setting from my experiences.
Okay thanks, I'll keep that in mind. My GPU is kinda bad but its probably better than my CPU. I did disable post processing and that helped a lot.
Arma was always tough to run because it pretty much requires a long draw distance, which can be demanding on some PCs

Hey guys, this is my first time with ArmA, and I thought this might be the place to ask this. I downloaded the new free version of ArmA 2, and nobody seems to be playing it. There are a couple of (roleplay) servers with people in them, but dozens of empty servers. Is everyone playing Operation Arrowhead? Even so, I would have expected the new free version to create a huge influx of players.
If I turn off filtering for BattlEye, a few more pop up with 1-5 players each (and these are mostly password protected), but is cheating rampant among nonsecure servers?

BIS don't really advertise. They don't have a publisher, so any news only really reaches people who already know about ArmA 2 and so on, and those people tend to already have bought their games and thus would already have Operation Arrowhead.

Yeah, I thought the release seemed a little low-profile. Is Arrowhead well-populated? I'd be willing to give it a shot if I knew there would be plenty of servers to play on.
And also, what's the best way to learn the ropes? I've been through the training missions and all, but I don't assume that will prepare me for online play, and I don't want to just jump into a server and try playing, because I'll probably be kicked for dragging down a team.
the ARMA 2 Free is considered beta :) so the popularity will most likely just slowly increase when we update it ...
also take in mind A2 engine is step behind OA engine
two steps behind TOH engine
and like four or five behind A3 engine :)
Tell me more about the A3 engine. I beckon you! :smith:
And I just bought A2 a month or so ago... :saddowns:
But you get mods!

I bought combined ops like a week ago. I don't regret it at all.
