Can I learn on the fly (during multiplayer), or should I just spend 3 days all by myself trying to do the tutorial missions (the marksmanship test is fucking impossible, I just can't hit anything)?
Don't go joining some random server to learn how to do things. Fire up the editor, plop down a helicopter/plane/what-have-you and start fucking around, it isn't that hard to fly.
If you got your Arma from greenman gaming, then it FADEs and you can`t hit anything.
Are you serious?
Sucks for those people I suppose. :v:
I bought 2 copies of this game during a sale on steam for 8 bucks each. 1 for me and one for my friend.
I kinda want my money back. looking at the trailers i expected amazing action sequences and suspencful helicopter rides to the objective and such. (Sounds like you expected a movie styled arcade shooter.) Instead i got controls that require a manual near your keyboard if you want to remember all of them (Have you ever actually tried any simulators? Air simulators like DCS and IL-2 allow you to bind pretty much any command to any key, so that players can make their own setups with ease. Of course at first it requires a bit remembering but after few hours it should be pretty straight forward, just don't even attempt to remember any controls that you never use. And pretty much any game except source games and CoDs etc. have required me to have the manual next to me for the start.), and a good 2-3 hours of wandering an empty countryside. i tried to going the objectives, but that took HALF AN HOUR (What the? You got lost or something? In a half an hour I can travel over 6 kilometers, on foot in ArmA, when there is no hostiles in the area. And after all if you don't like Forest Jogging Simulator you can accelerate time in SP with the 2 buttons between 0 and backspace. But pretty much every mission where I've had to jog on a forest there has been random enemy patrols in the area). and the helicopter pilot stopped in the middle of a field and left me there. (Guess why in real life transport choppers don't fly directly into the combat. To AVOID unnecessary casualties and material damages) Another problem i have is its horrendus voice acting lazily chopped together. (I know its for a reason dont even start)(it's pretty easy to get used to them.) and graphics that make half life 1 look impressive. (Have you even opened the graphics options in options menu and tried to fiddle with the settings? Setting 3d resolution to same as your monitor resolution makes the blur disappear etc.)
Okay, before all of you slam your keyboards to tell me that its SUPPOSED to be like that because in Real war its like that and its a war simulator blah de blah, I will say this REAL WAR =/= FUN. (You not having fun doesn't mean that others couldn't have fun. That's like saying no one can enjoy playing football because you don't like football.) I dont care what fancy name you have for it, its a game. (So no game can be realistic up to the point you don't like?) The problem is that, while realism in certain aspects is great, (not being able to take a billion hits, destructible environments, realistic effects etc.) In others its
A horrible thing. (For you it might be) The pacing of this game is equal to that of an overweight snail. (I disagree.)
AGAIN, i realize its a war simulator, but what in a war do you really want to simulate? THE FIGHTING. (So in your opinion this game doesn't simulate fighting if the missions don't start directly at the objective area. And in your opinion it's not fighting when a mission starts a few kilometers away from a target and you have to move in to the objective area and avoid any random patrols on the way. And it's not fighting when you have an ability to actually plan your attacks from a distance.) the game needs smaller environments in addition to bigger environments, (hmm let's see. Shapur (OA BAF), utes (ArmA II), desert (OA), proving grounds (OA PMC), zargabad (OA). They all are smaller than the main environments. Having a big environment instead of a tube map adds greatly replayability and makes it easier for mission makers to make missions, have you even tried to make your own missions in editor?) or even better support for over 100 players. (It does, do some research) As it stands, its just too slow for my liking. (Well, then I suggest you stay away from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s, Far Cry 2 and Crysis 1 as they also have some walking instead of constant combat.)
Well thats just my 2 cents.
The pacing in the game depends on mission and what the mission maker has wanted. There is loads of missions where you get dropped right into the action and then there is missions where you start from the other side of the map with a chopper or a car to get to the objective area. (and if you can actually read a map, then getting to the other side with chopper shouldn't take longer than 4 minutes and with car less than 13 minutes)
Signature checking will be on on the server tonight, battleye will be off, so link any keys you want for soundmods and the likes.
Alright, i found a solution to the problem with recieving mission info and then getting kicked back to servers, follow these steps:
Start by uninstalling your current BattlEye ! then do this:
1. check for a folder called Bohemian interactives or w/e the game producers are called, its something like that.
2 if you dont have one create it inside your program install directory.
3. in this folder transfer your ArmA 2 folder (with all the stuff in it) into it. (just copy it dont cut it)
4. inside your transfered ArmA 2 folder create a new folder called "BattlEye" without the "s.
5. Download the BattlEye files from http://www.battleye.com/download.html take both the server and client ones. (they're dll's)
6. Place them inside your newly made BattlEye folder.
7. Launch the game and enjoy MP!
Alt. version if above doesnt work ^
1. Download the Dll's from http://www.battleye.com/download.html
2. create a folder called "BattlEye" (without the "'s) inside Capsulegames/Arma2/ or w/e the folder is called, inside the ArmA 2 folder located inside CapsuleGames anyway.
3. Place the BattlEye dll's in there.
4. Enjoy Mp !

Url'd because it's a large image

AAS was fun. In insurgency Blufor got wiped the moment they reached the tree/bush area thanks to the great AI opfor ratio. The moment I jumped out of the humvee I saw 50 enemy soldier dots in the map around us. And the reason for my crashes seemed to be TS3 overlay and Steam overlay both.

Afterwards it was changed, to 50 %, we had like 20 units at most
It was funny hearing simkas commenting on my character's Asian face. :v: Is it really that uncommon?

I don't think that was me.
No? It was probably one of the guys I killed in the industrial area in the first few minutes.
I liked that ka58(or whatever that opfor attack chopper is called)/Apache chase we had...
especially my epic landing with no casualties, and then watching the apache crash down like, 100 meters away.
who was flying it anyway?

I was piloting and Jorma Key was gunning, some guy hit us with an Igla almost right after you crash landed.
That was fun.
The Wildcat is now my favourite helicopter.
Ferry soldiers and blow up enemy armour while you're at it.
best helicopter
although paper thin, but everything else gets shot down just as easily
