You'll only be able to play on servers that are running no mods with the free version. Which is like 1% of all servers.

Using a mix of Israeli/Russian vehicles and Israeli weapons.

Also what is that helicopter. Tac Error calls it the Hindvokum but I call it the KA-Hindvokum.
Seeing as it is a mix of the KA-50/Hokum/Hind.

DLC was stupid and the majority of servers don't allow mods anyway

Uhhh, I'd say the majority of servers run only with mods. There's like 5% servers that run without any mods.

Nah, I'm more talking about mods that expand the game by adding new islands, weapons, vehicles or just overall tweaking the gameplay to be better.
and most servers don't allow effects or sound mods, and the default sounds and effect are ridiculously low quality

right now out of all the populated servers that aren't passworded, there is 1 server with any mods and it's a french server

I'm not sure about vanilla ARMA 2 these days, but in OA pretty much EVERY bigger server has signatures for multiple different sound mods and also warfx.
And FYI. the server doesn't need to have the mod installed for clients to use it, they just need the signature file.

Well yeah, it depends on the mod. But when talking about clientside stuff like soundmods, the server doesn't need it (in any of the ones I've used anyway).
Warfx should work fine too, I've joined some servers before that didn't have any mods installed and no signature check, and it all worked fine, even though it requires CBA on the client.
