Why do you hate ACE so much, you think it adds unnecessary stuff but clearly you've never played it. Once you play ACE vanilla doesn't feel complete. You'd be surprised how useful everything ACE adds is. Stuff I like personally is: Being able to adjust the gain on your NVGs (which I cannot live without) Actually adds an armor system to tanks and such (no more 2000 rounds from an MG can kill an abrams, bouncing shells and stuff) Adds shitloads of weapons, ammunition, and gear (so you can load out to a specific role rather than just grab a gun and whatever) Adds more effective auto-rotation on helicopters (in vanilla its so subtle you won't survive) Weapon resting. Enough said ETC...ETC....
ACE adds some cool shit but it also adds a bunch of completely pointless stuff that only make the game more annoying. Like the completely retarded healing system, where you need to carry 3 types of items to heal anyone and you need to use a specific item at a specific time in order to be able to do anything. And there's also the whole blacking out bullshit.
I knew somebody would pull those. Guess what? Those are all activated by MODULES. If you don't like them: DON'T USE THE MODULES. And they're not active by default.

It's not retarded, it's an attempt to add realism.
Also god forbid you black out when doing a sharp turn at 500 kp/h.

On a particularly dark night, NVGs might as well be useless in vanilla. Also get a minigun on a blackhawk and use all of its ammo into an Abrams. Hell, with enough time you can kill an abrams with a fucking M249. Also good luck proning behind large cover. Weapon resting = putting you weapon on objects. I can't believe all the people who don't like ACE, its like they can't handle change. Uberman,
Did you come here for any reason apart from telling us how silly we are for not playing with ACE?
If you did, I'd ask you to leave because we've already discussed this issue to great length and we're not changing our opinion because another one of you step into here and tell us the pros of ACE like we haven't heard them more than ten times already. Here's a hint if you want to discuss the pros of ACE and the cons of vanilla ArmA 2 with someone: talk to someone who plays with ACE.
Did you come here for any reason apart from telling us how silly we are for not playing with ACE?
Profan asked what useful features there were, I said some. Then the discussion continued.
I'd like it to end here, everyone. Onto something of better news: nothing, my server broke and we found new maps which didn't work.
Profan asked what useful features there were, I said some. Then the discussion continued.
After having played with ACE after being blinded by its oh so realistic features, I realized that it didn't actually add to the fun. At all. I don't really care if it has assloads of contents that I hardly ever use and realistic portrayal of every boring little detail of warfare. I, personally, don't need ACE because I play for fun and not in a vain attempt to recreate real enlistment. Edit: Verdict: ACE is unnecessary for a fun experience. Just my opinion on the matter.
So when's the Airsoft vs General Games Discussion battle? What mods will we need, and how many people are confirmed? What game mode?
Retoast
January 6th, around 30 people in total (probably gonna be less) And we have no idea what mods we are using yet. We know its gonna be Mission made by IFAP, random AAS mission, mission made by GGD peons [editline]31st December 2011[/editline]
After having played with ACE after being blinded by its oh so realistic features, I realized that it didn't actually add to the fun. If you join a fucking realism unit of course you are gonna have to do drills and other boring shit but if you know, play like a normal casual person you'll have fun. It only adds features it doesn't MAKE you play like a boring milsim. Exhibit A: Oh my god, people having fun with a mod thats supposed to suck the fun out of ArmA? This is the last post in the argument about ACE.
I used to use ACE for ARMA 1 and also ARMA 2 before Operation Arrowhead came out, but OA added most of the features that I was the most interested about in ACE anyway and haven't used it much since. The thing I probably hated the most about it is how fast you get winded and black out if you're carrying any heavier equipment. Sure, that's realistic. Fun? No.
Oh my god, people having fun with a mod thats supposed to suck the fun out of ArmA? This is the last post in the argument about ACE.
What's this then? I never stated that ACE was designed to "suck the fun" out of arma, I only stated that it certainly doesn't make it more fun either. Also it isn't very convincing to retreat from an argument by stating that it is over with such prejudice.
get both, or combined operations. Everyone has moved on to CO as far as communities go. Plus you get all the DLC in a lite version, which is a bonus.
Is combined operations a separate thing? Cause' on steam it just has it as the two games bundled together.

No point in arguing B. Lets not shit up the thread with arguing C. Hellsoldier told us to stop Last thing I'm gonna say on this topic is that you don't have more fun by playing ace, you have more features. These features allow for the same fun level but but different ways to have fun. For example with ACE, it adds canister rounds to Abrams. Put a lot of infantry down and have a good time watching them die horribly by shooting a cannister round at them. Cap'nSpacepants, Combined Operations is Arma2 and OA in the same package, as in, you play them combined so you have all the content of both games. Also has there been any updates with new info on Arma3? If not, they haven't released anything in a while. Last thing: What does air cushoning do anyway?
Combined ops is Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead together. You launch it in Steam by launching OA and pressing Combined Ops in the Steam start menu thing.
Combined ops is Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead together. You launch it in Steam by launching OA and pressing Combined Ops in the Steam start menu thing.
Make sure to run Arma2 first though or it won't work.
Alright, thanks guys.
Last thing: What does air cushoning do anyway?
Air cushioning? Do you mean ground effect? Edit: What are you referring to?
I read that in the latest 1.60 patch that it adds "air cushioning" I do not know what this is.
Here's us getting ambushed (kinda) in the broken PVP mission:
I read that in the latest 1.60 patch that it adds "air cushioning" I do not know what this is.
Probably means the ground effect, that's how it's worded in the changelog.
I read that in the latest 1.60 patch that it adds "air cushioning" I do not know what this is.
When helicopters get close to the ground (<7 m) they become much easier to control. Atleast, that's what my understanding of it is.

According to Xfire, over the last 48 hours I've played 28 hours worth of Operation Arrowhead. Project Reality is damn good V:v:V

So I try to launch it with Profan's stuff and get this: "Addon 'Extended_EventHandlers' requires addon 'CATracked2_AAV'" And then I CTD. What do?
run combined ops
