Also, I like to think he's going to voice a playable Kevin Clamely aka the scientist who became the Patriarch. Maybe a sort of backup file of himself cloned? Would explain why he knows all the names and doesn't give a fuck, he's just like Masterson. A specimen made for war but perfected mentally.

How exactly he escaped shortly before the outbreak then was instituted as a Lieutenant in the 12 hours or so before the specimens broke out, I have no idea. Plus it basically would have been some naked dude with a wispy goatee just running up to some army general and being all like "that company that's making medical breakthroughs? They're making ZOMBIES", so apparently the English command are very jaded.

I personally believe Masterson's batshit insane and he just stole the army gear and started calling himself a lieutenant after escaping.
