It's alright.
It is because of this forum and the old smartness system that I d0n't type leik this anymore.
I look back at old posts on other forums and have a good laugh.
That discussion of Portal and Portal 2 before got me thinking...in Half-Life 1, Xen creatures seem to teleport in and out at random. Can we assume this is how they teleported in outside? In cities and stuff? If thats the case, how come a Xen creature never accidently teleported into the enrichment center?

Those were the portal storms, and either Aperture was somehow shielded, or they exterminated anything that came in. I would assume the prior.
I kind of hope Valve doesn't budge on this crowbar/call for communication BS. They know what they're doing and there is a reason for not releasing any content no doubt. That would be kinda anti-climatic if they just started openly talking about the next HL now.

Everyone just wants acknowledgement, and yeah they probably know what they're doing, but it sucks.
Still bothers me why the modern Aperture science logo is there, unless they put it there because Cave Johnson had it for the official company logo..
[editline]8th January 2012[/editline]
And also GLaDoS wasn't around when the Borealis was in drafting stages or even when it shipped, maybe they'll retcon it?
You're thinking under the assumption that they only ever sent it out once and it got stuck, and just sort of forgot about it for 30-40 years. For Glados to of signed for it meant that she was active, and from what they mentioned during the Portal Universe she took control right after being active.
My personal theory? If whatever is on board that ship is supposed to battle the Combine, why wouldn't she want to get it away from her? It's dangerous.
Send out a ship that eventually got lost and wound up where it did, leading on that there was no one really piloting it. The lack of any sort of wear and tear in the Dry Dock implies it wasn't that old. They could still of been using it while the rest of the place was sealed up.
Or you know, the texture artist who made the Blueprints didn't really think of the fans looking at them that closely or taking them that seriously, which is probably why they used blueprints of a warship.
Remember the images only appear on screen ingame for a fraction of a second.
So GLaDOS being there might have just been an Easter Egg never intending to mean anything.
Yeah CES, maybe we will see something today/tommorrow ;)
the likelihood of them announcing anything HL-related at CES is even lower than it was at the VGAs, much lower. E3 is pretty much the only expo that would be appropriate for an announcement like that.

i dont say, that they will annouce something, but maybe they will use pics/trailers from ep3 for their "Big Pictures" thing.
they are showing big picture mode off at CES and that is all, I will be there to confirm.
No problem, welcome to the forum
I don't think the welcome to the forum is necessary since he's been here for about 9 months now.

i am just optimistic :/

CES is not the joint to start announcing shit, E3 is where developers showcase their next games/installments.

Cool, looking forward to it!
I always liked Portal 1's backstory. It left so much undecided, you had to use your imagination to fill in the gaps. I also liked the half-life reference to the "world outside is changed."
I really prefered the backstory from Portal 1. Aperture felt like a serious yet slightly crazy company - they just didn't care about safety and only cared about results, which is why some of their tech was more advanced than what Black Mesa had. But with Portal 2, all that mystery is gone and it's now just an insane company. Not serious at all. They should have kept Aperture quite Dark (like the rest of the HL universe), but now it's all fairly light-hearted and doesn't make sense at all.
I'm hoping EP3/HL3 restores some of it.

No, this is valve we are talking about. They are quite thorough when it comes to this sort of thing. They don't put things in which aren't mean to be taken seriously. If they didn't want people to see the Guns and GLaDOS signature they wouldn't of used them.

I found Aperture science a company that had a lot of humor in it, I found it hard to take most of it seriously but when you go into the ruins of Aperture in its glory days I found it sort of dark because of the atmosphere you were placed in.

For me it was mostly all of Caves insane experiments and GLaDOS not actually being that smart that made it loose some of its seriousness.
I would of really liked to see some more lab-type areas like Black Mesa instead of just testing areas. It seemed like the only way to get around the Richment centre was to go through the testing tracks and there was only one path, which most of the time led to no where. It didn't feel like an actual research centre - just loads of testing areas and walkways.

Yeah but the atmospheres you were placed in and hearing Aperture science crumble slowly was to me dark.
Nonetheless Portal had its pros
are we there yet?

^ All the 'evidence' we have so far is either speculation, or fan-made stuff.
