Nuking Black Mesa was canon.
He brings up a point though. It's not exactly very likely that a single thermonuclear warhead could take out an entire underground facility specifically built to withstand nuclear bombing (BM was a cold war missile site), especially since that warhead was planted in an underground carpark. So did the combine ever do anything to Black Mesa in the 20 years they've been around?
It was nuked from the inside, not the outside. The effect must have been like a mini earthquake.
If you want to get really fucking nitpicky, we don't actually know that it was from inside because you only see the nuke in OpFor which is non canon Random dumbs

[sp]Eli's death[/sp] made me cry it was that well placed. [sp]"I love you dad!"[/sp] God fucking damn it
1. the citizen in route kanal when you first encounter manhacks 2. eli vance
So in Ep3 I bet we'll see a black rebel smash an Overwatch Elite's/a Hunter's/a Strider's/a Gunship's/an Advisor's face in with one of those pipes AND live to tell about it.
Keep the spoiler tags up please. Anyways, on past quotes, why would the combine want to destroy Black Mesa while it held possible equipment to get another possible portal open to their main world/realm? With the equipment they had, the Combine might be able to repair/create a device to open a portal to the combines realm/galaxy to release the greatest or real combine army into the "Humans" galaxy/realm... If anything, I would see them taking it over if it was still there but that is not the case.... Isn't that the same reason the Combine want to find the Borealis and as well as the Rebels?
If you want to get really fucking nitpicky, we don't actually know that it was from inside because you only see the nuke in OpFor which is non canon
No, it's canon. All the games are canon until Valve does something which says overwise.
No, it's canon. All the games are canon until Valve does something which says overwise.
to be more specific
Nuking black mesa was a good way to ensure that we had a way to avoid setting half-life 2 there. You might say i gave the g-man his orders. The whole issue of canon is something the fans came up with. I guess you will be able to identify as canon those story elements we continue to build on and develop and mention repeatedly as the story progresses. Others might fall by the wayside once they've served their purpose. Couldn't you say the same of us all?
I think I can understand why it takes so long. Like they mentioned in many interviews, Half-Life 3 (or EP3) is going to be the end of Half-Life. Means that they going to blow our minds with this. I can't explain it well, it's like they need to explain all things that were in early games. But sure many things will be in shadow. I don't know, I trust them, I believe that Valve can make an ending that we won't forget for ages and discus it more than after HL and HL2. And hope that this thread will keep out any leak information or video that spoils the story. I want to keep them as surprise.
...Half-Life 3 (or EP3) is going to be the end of Half-Life...
No it isn't. It's just the end of the current story arc. Or at least, that's what valve's told us.
No it isn't. It's just the end of the current story arc. Or at least, that's what valve's told us.
Well whatever it is, it's still the end of one story. And it takes 5 years of developing.
[sp]Eli's death[/sp] made me cry it was that well placed.
Am I the only one who gets annoyed when somebody says "THEY MUST BE WORKING ON A NEW SOURCE ENGINE/THEY NEED A NEW ENGINE"? i forgot [sp]did kliener and all that master teleportation?[/sp]
Am I the only one who gets annoyed when somebody says "THEY MUST BE WORKING ON A NEW SOURCE ENGINE/THEY NEED A NEW ENGINE"? Christ idiots, the engine's meant to be modular.
As much as I want an engine update, even today I think the source engine isn't actually all that outdated at all. I mean, more interactivity, terrain changing in game, and tons more would be readily able to be added, and awesome, but even to todays standards you can make great stuff with it.

Considering the age it has held up really well.

At 2:00 Sad they didn't use it in the final build.
the real reason why it takes so long is because valve tests its games all along the development with casual gamers and fps veteran but they can't find any fps player that would want to spoils itself to help this game

Again I mostly want a new engine for better load times and map sizes. It's pretty fucking ridiculous no matter what source game you're playing. And as cool as some of the things in portal 2 were, there wasn't much detail and all the neat physics things were simulated before hand. I mean go launch gmod and explode some barrels or destroy some wooden crates (the crates especially), you end up just missling 90% of the object you destroyed. So I guess we can add better destruction to that list (load times + map sizes) hopefully. And I swear to god if HL3 is going the awkward weapons view model route of CSGO and L4D I will murder a baby. Something about them felt very cartoonish.
I know GMod9 had a LUA gun that could change terrain too, but it was all looks, and not physical.
That was the case with the E3 presentation too I think, and that's why it's not included in the final engine.
THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE RUNNING RATHER LATE i hope there's a scene where a citizen punches out an advisor with his bare fucking hands
THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE RUNNING RATHER LATE i hope there's a scene where a citizen punches out an advisor with his bare fucking hands
Would be better to see one wrestling or punching a Hunter to death.
Would be better to see one wrestling or punching a Hunter to death.
Make one look like Saxton Hale, as a little reference to TF2.
call me a racist if you dare but so far ive only ever seen black characters to have used those lead pipe things as weapons throughout the half-life 2 series and they all died 1. the citizen in route kanal when you first encounter manhacks 2. eli vance
What about all the black medics who seem to do just fine around the chapter Follow Freeman? :v:
Throwing out something to everyone: Awhile ago, I contacted Gabe during the Potato ARG, asking about pre-order bonuses for Portal 2 on Steam. Sadly, he wasn't in the office at the time because he was sick, and had an automatic reply on hand, which stated:
I am out scik with some virus not dead yet For general issues, e-mail scott@valvesoftware.com. For marketing or press issues, e-mail lombardi@valvesoftware.com. To complain about HL-2 Ep 3 taking too long, email marc@valvesoftware.com. To complain about L4D2 not taking long enough, email toml@valvesoftware.com.
Note the complaint line, going to Marc, as in, Marc Laidlaw, Half-Life's WRITER. I'm making a blind assumption here, but maybe they just haven't made any progress in the writing, and that's why they don't want to make any announcements, because they don't know what to do with the story. Take as you will.
