They could already do the animations superbly, so they didn't really have a need for it. Also, it would be odd for the game to transition right to a move in the middle of a scene (remember you play up until the point where she has you)
I think the last one had to be video because [sp]there were A LOT of turrets that needed to be perfectly synchronized, and I guess Valve could only do this by video.[/sp]
I think it's ridiculous that people even consider the fact that Valve has abandoned this game.
I don't think it's ridiculous. In many circumstances I'd say it's typical behaviour of anyone who doesn't want to do something, but doesn't have the heart to say that.

I think they just realize how much is expected of it, and have sort of become perfectionists about it. This game is going to be tested and polished until they think it's perfect. Portal 2 shows a new emphasis on constant testing and improvement, which lead to many of the major changes in it from the earlier versions.

And what sucks is the longer they make us wait, the more we all expect of it. I honestly expect Half-Life 3 to be a "Next-Gen" game. The jump Valve made from Half-Life to Half-Life 2 was massive, and if they made HL3 something along the lines of CS:GO or Portal 2, I'd feel pretty let down. The silence and development time, really feels like something much bigger. E3 is rumoured to show next generation consoles this year (mind you, I said "rumoured") and I think that would be a perfect time to finally reveal Half-Life 3.
Honestly, I know they're taking a long time with this, and their silence on it is really the thing hyping it up for me, but all I really want is something that will stack up to the others in terms of quality.

I wouldn't see how they'd make a sudden HUGE leap in the (probably, just guessing. I mean, it can't be too long after this, right?)) one year that's between Dota 2/CS:GO and EP3, so don't count on it. If their engine was better they'd just use that one for CS:GO as well, so there's no reason to believe they have a better engine hidden from the public.

Ricochet wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as some of Valve's other titles.
I just came in to say that Gabe Newell said in an interview that there will be a half life 2 episode 3 before half-life 3 because the next half-life is a follow up of episode 2 so it would be better to have it as half-life 2 episode 3.

A source for that would be nice. Regardless, I agree with it. It just makes sense to complete the current arc with Episode 3, and then five/seven years later we get Half-Life 3 with a brand new arc.
I really don't expect news for EP3 to come out until CS:GO and DOTA 2 go gold, TF2 gets a "Meet the Pyro" video, and the planned DLC packs for Portal 2 are released. I wouldn't put it past Valve to keep the best of their major Source releases until last.

I have the feeling that it's partially due to the completely unwarranted hype that came from the rumours about HL3 being announced at the VGAs (Which was based off of, what, one picture of a shirt from a somewhat-reliable source?), which seemed to attract a bunch of attention from SPUF to here.
That, and VG&M in general has always had more shitposts and dumb jokes than it has actual content for the topics in it. If anyone remembers the awful thread about that weird horror ARG that went nowhere, you'll know what I'm talking about. I think even Tim Buckley would want to kill himself after reading that thread.

I've found out about it from my friend who's been tracking the potato one as well. He's shown me one of those teasers/black&white videos and tried to convince me that this might be something relevant. Well, thankfully I made some further research later...
