Fucking Librarians. :smith:
Stare them down, let them know who's boss. DON'T SHOOT. And remember to back away. And for the love of god don't look away. [sp]They're not that hard to kill, but they do take a LOT of ammo to go down.[/sp]

I'm having a real problem on the bridge with the [sp] Reds and Nazis[/sp] I try using stealth but they find me out at the bottom and I die instantly.
Actually, you gotta stand your ground while staring them down.
You only have to stand your ground when they pound the ground, otherwise it's better to back off, they'll give you a quick smack if they get too close.
Just finished reading the book. It was pretty good. I liked how it portrayed humanity as being in a much more dire state than the game, as well as the Metro generally having more crazy people/customs/beliefs/mutants/etc.
I'll get you one in a few. [editline]15th March 2011[/editline] [img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/drass.jpg[/img_thumb] You can blame steam for the image quality.
That looks as simple as a leather coat, belt, fingerless gloves, and a beanie! Now to decide between this or STALKER loadout. :buddy:

[sp]They're not that hard to kill, but they do take a LOT of ammo to go down.[/sp]
I tried staring the first one down. It just walked up and killed me. And then at the end of the level [sp]after the elevator scene[/sp], I threw a knife and got a one-shot. I was all :what:
I just finished my second playthrough and got the alternative ending. It was really worth the effort. I played on Ranger difficulty as well, which seemed really balanced for an harder gameplay. For librarians, I either try to stare them down, if they attack me I end up running away to safe area, or run to the elevator. Archives, I just run or stealth through it. I really can't be arsed to fight them. I think it was a brilliant idea to induce fear, but the fact they attack you 90% of the times even after a staredown just makes me annoyed.
The normal ones can be completely bypassed without firing a single shot (Stare down)
So I wasted all that effort, crapping of my pants, and ammo killing every last waking librarian. God damnit. And because of it I'm facing D6 with only enough ammo for high power weapons and not the spam-a-lot assault rifle I'd prefer using.
Oh yeah, if anyone wants the complete list on what to do to get the "good" ending - Go here. If not tough luck. Also spend as much ammo as you want in D6 and beyond because you're not going to spend it on anything in the future.
Volt Driver is amazing, I've been pretty much using it as my sole weapon through the whole game. BBs are the cheapest ammo ever, and on easy ranger even a bodyshot is still lethal.
Hnnnnnnnnnnngh, on ranger hardcore, each magazine you pick up only gives you 3 bullets.. [editline]17th March 2011[/editline] And having the audio set to russian makes the game 80% more awesome.

After the library you can basically start using your high grade weapon since there's basically no other chance to trade for stuff. I think that's a shame though because that's the part of the game where you start having enough of them for gearing up really good, but instead they just give you the ammo freely. There's also a lot of ammo caches inside the transportation vehicles in D6, mostly in the back of them.
The enlightened ending where left me wondering what happens in the next game/book. Translators get off your ass! :argh: also those who have read the book don't tell us. Please.
Translators get off your ass! :argh:
Metro 2033 is translated, just not the other books in the series.
I knew that already, I was referring to Metro 2034.
I knew that already, I was referring to Metro 2034.
I REALLY want to read Metro 2034 if it ever gets translated....
I knew that already, I was referring to Metro 2034.
Oh sorry, misread that I guess.
Really loved this game. Was disappointed at its strict linearity at first (I started the game in the mindset of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.) but I quickly forgot about that. This game had tons of great moments and features (including the fantastic visuals with good performance), though the thing that got me the most hooked was the solid-ness of the ballistics and combat system in general, the stealth system and how well the two combined. Gotta replay this game. This time with less sneaking around enemies (wonder if one can get away with that at top difficulty?)
To get things straight, can someone tell me: 1: Are the book available in North America?... 2: ...In English? I really want to read them.
I pretty much felt the same as Crimson. I was disappointed initially by it's linearity, but then fell in love with the game. I find myself playing through it again and again on harder difficulties, and finding new little details I missed.
To get things straight, can someone tell me: 1: Are the book available in North America?... 2: ...In English? I really want to read them.
The first book, Metro 2033 is available in english, and I know several sites ship around NA, although I don't know if you your local bookstores stock it. The spin-off Metro 2033 books and Metro 2034 are not translated to english yet.
Even though i already beat this on 360, i may play through it again since i got it for free on my pc. Amazing game, just wished they came out with some extra content for it.
At the librarians I just ran like hell through them, anyone else do this?
At the librarians I just ran like hell through them, anyone else do this?
The game tells you to stare them down. That worked great, and by great I mean it didn't work at all.
At the librarians I just ran like hell through them, anyone else do this?
First time through I tried staring at them and doing the thing that they wanted you to do, needless to say I lost all of my ammo and barely made it through, angry at this I loaded back to the start of the section and sprinted through, not getting hit at all.
Getting chased by the librarians is so intense. It's awesome.
Hnnnnnnnnnnngh, on ranger hardcore, each magazine you pick up only gives you 3 bullets.. Also when playing through ranger difficulty setting it's pretty much almost impossible to get past D6 without using the infinite ammo trainer.
