The game tells you to stare them down.
That worked great, and by great I mean it didn't work at all.
It doesn't tell you jack shit on Ranger Hardcore so I just massacred them. Good thing the Hellsing kills them in 4 shots (also anyone else found the pressure and magnetism based weapons a whole lot more fun than the bullet based ones?).
Really loved this game. Was disappointed at its strict linearity at first (I started the game in the mindset of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.) but I quickly forgot about that. This game had tons of great moments and features (including the fantastic visuals with good performance), though the thing that got me the most hooked was the solid-ness of the ballistics and combat system in general, the stealth system and how well the two combined.
Gotta replay this game. This time with less sneaking around enemies (wonder if one can get away with that at top difficulty?)
Yep, that's the best part of the game. It felt so fucking good, even the pistol was more interesting of a weapon than any weapon you find in most other games (because it had such a great feeling).
Physics is what ruined it for me.
Like, fighting enemies was really odd because they would continue standing up for 4 seconds despite being dead.
Always when I see pictures of this game, I want to replay it again, but I did it already several times.
This game is so unique and something truly great.

Well, you're missing out something buddy.
I prefer russian voice acting over english one, but with russian voices the chatter what is in the backround on the metros isnt translated on the subtitles so it's kind of pointless. Also when playing through ranger difficulty setting it's pretty much almost impossible to get past D6 without using the infinite ammo trainer.
That shit ain't stopping me.
I also refuse to use trainers :c00lbert:
If Metro 2034 is linear, but afterwards you're able to travel through the stations it would be sweet.
co-op too :v:
but we all know that's not going to happen due to some reason or another.
Just got 2033 after looking for it in the stores for months. It is awesome.

Why didn't you just buy it on Steam?
Don't let the thread die guys :smith:

Oh wow, thanks automerge.
Almost done reading the book again, I'll never be able to play the game again, atleast not happy.
How could they seriously remove a FUCK TON of story and change shit till they barely even have anything to do with the book?
Dissapoints me, alot.
Just started replaying the game on Ranger ('easy' :buddy:). Fucking hell I love the gunfights. Also, DAT LIGHTING!
Seriously, those campfires look terrific. The volumetric lighting is the shit too, albeit somewhat slow when applied on the sun. Does anyone know a way of fine-tuning the settings beyond the 'High', 'Very High' etc? Or, are the settings to dependent on each other to permit that sort of tweaking?

I got no credit card and It's a goddamn russian game.
Does anyone really have a solid (SOLID) way of getting past librarians apart from running?
Killing them on ranger really isn't an option, you need your ammo. And staring them down doesn't work for shit.
My friend does it easily but I have no clue, he just gives me the same bullshit saying I need to stare at them and back off slowly, don't move if they ground pound.
Does it work? Does it fuck.

That would go completely against the "If it's hostile, you kill it" mentality anyway. Would kinda suck if it was true IMHO.
Been taking some cool screenshots on my latest playthrough of the game.

So what you're saying is, everyone who's ever said to stare them down has been lying?
An open world metro2033 would be amazing
So what you're saying is, everyone who's ever said to stare them down has been lying?
No, because I haven't tried it myself (with any considerable effort atleast). I'm playing on Ranger right now so I'll be sure to once I get there though.
"I have learned that on Hardcore, the Librarians still attack if being started down, the only time this does not happen is if you are wielding the knife. The reason for this is, but the time you reach the "Great Library" as the people of Polis call it. [The Lenin Library to them is a sacred place as they are the last, scientific station left in the Metro.] You already have some of the strongest weapons in the game, which makes them nervous, even a revolver will do this, so if staring one down, try to wield your knife, turn off your head light, and slowly back up into the nearest wall, so this way another cannot jump through a hole in the ground behind you. If the "Librarian" stares at you without standing, prepare for a fight, pull out a fully loaded "Automatic Shotgun w/ Bayonet" or "Heavy Automatic Shotgun" and let fly. The "Librarian" is actually sizing you up during this time. Make sure that you are in a secure place before firing as the sound has attracted other "Librarians" on some occasions. [I painfully found out the hard way.] Use corners to your advantage, back into one and when the start to attack, sprint to the next corner and fire, repeating this process until you are either the "Librarian" is dead, or you have escaped. Also, never, I repeat never attack a "Librarian" with a VSV or Helsing on Hardcore, the point being, by the time you have pumped a round to full capacity, the "Librarian" has either killed you, or has damaged your mask. Which in my opinion is worse than dying."
I just ran away from them, there is some trial and error but when you know the path it's easy.

Hellsing, overpressurize it and aim for the head. 2-4 spears and they're dead (then just pick up the spears from the bodies). That's how I did it (Ranger Hardcore).
[editline]22nd March 2011[/editline]
I guess you could use throwing knives too, but it's harder (very much possible though, especially if you hit them on the head).
I just ran like fuck to the nearest viable place when I played it, first time round I ended up killing one because it jumped in front of me, I jumped and clicked fire.
Ended quite well actually.

As for the game, I ruined my only save file, game autosaved while getting shot at :smith:

If I was forced to find one thing I absolutely hate about the game, it would be the autosaving. Autosave is good in conjunction with manual saves, not as the sole method of saving progression (especially with a combat system aimed at more realistic damage levels).
Just beat metro. STarted second playthrough instantly to get the good ending. Going for easy difficulty and I'm trying to stealth the parts I failed before and actually use the bastard gun and kalash 2012 and hellsing more often.
I really wanna replay this again, but whenever I do, I feel like my experience isn't as good as the first ones I had with the game. Same feeling I had when watching The Dark Knight for the second time. :frown:
What is generally perceived as the "good ending"? Is it [sp]where the missiles are launched, destroying(?) the dark ones and the world goes on?[/sp] That's the only ending I've seen.
The good ending is the one where you [sp]save the dark ones[/sp], but the one where you [sp]kill them[/sp] is technically canon.
The good ending is the one where you [sp]save the dark ones[/sp], but the one where you [sp]kill them[/sp] is technically canon.
Really? Heh, the game makes that far from obvious, doesn't it? Anyway without revealing the details, is the ending determined by all the little moral choices along the way (with a point system or whatever) or is it basically one critical choice towards the end of the game?
Little moral choices with a point system.

Massive spoiler (canon, following the book):
[sp]As soon as he agrees for a symbiosis, they missiles land and destroy his station and the garden.
I felt a jerk in my heart at the moment when he just pulled his mask off and cried walking down the tower. :saddowns:
Fuck you Dmitry, you cunt.[/sp]
