Metro Series Megathread - We Have Developers, Does S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?

I just got the DLC for last light and one things that's really starting to piss me off is that there's no way to check how many filters/ammo you have left like in 2033. Heck all I want it to tell me I have X clips and Y filters! Is there any fricken way to check?
edit:Well I can make do like last time. Just seems annoyingly obtuse.
Kind of a big bump, but considering the game was on sale not too long ago I guess people will want to give their opinion on the game.
Just finished Last Light. It was great but story wise there's kind of a moment where the story shits itself [sp]which is when you sleep with Anna for no reason at all[/sp]. The entire section of the game where you just roam around the dead city is probably the best part. Apart from that, it's kind of inferior to 2033 in my opinion, but worth playing nonetheless.

That's funny. You think the moment in which [sp]two characters that went through hell and gained respect for each other, now told they might have hours, days to live decide to share an intimate moment together to forget their bleak situation is when the story shits itself[/sp].
But the fact the only reason you are able [sp]to escape your captivity is because the enemy leader has a son that hates his daddy[/sp] is okay.
Good job spoiling everything when I took time in actually putting stuff in spoiler tags, real nice of you.
[sp]Anna and Artyom's relationship has no development whatsoever. She's a dick to you and somehow thinks you suck at your job (why does no one remember you BLEW UP THE FUCKING DARK ONES ?), then for some reason decides you don't, then you completely lose her from sight for a massive portion of the game and when you finally find her she somehow just loves you. Besides, you give her no reason to even remotely be sorry for you : when you play the dlc mission, it becomes REALLY clear that it's entirely your own damn fault for letting the dark one live. Anna is a shit character that serves no purpose other than to have one more scene in the ending (speaking of which, why doesn't she follow you into the last stand at D6 ? She's a ranger, and a damn good shot at that judging from the first mission of the game, so why isn't she with everyone else ?).[/sp]
Metro: Last Light doesn't have exactly stellar writing to begin with. I'll start from the end.
[sp]Anna isn't at the final stand in D6 because she's probably still recovering her "wound". We are never told what it is.
As for their relationship, the development is pretty weak, no arguing there. As a matter of fact we aren't really shown if they fall in love. It's stupid she treats you like a novice at the start. Though you are accepted into Rangers pretty fast and it's not uncommon older members berate new ones in a situation like this. Anna probably had to train most of her life to get in the Rangers while you came along, blew up the Dark Ones and instantly got in. After you arrive at the church she drops the attitude and shows more respect to you. You survived the Nazi prison, traveled a long journey and lastly killed a huge mutant which she saw with her own eyes. Finally, we get to the main scene. I witnessed in a lot of other media that people when faced with depressing situation (your life possibly ending soon, surrounded by death) sometimes have sex to forget. Afterwards we aren't told if they stay together. When Artyom survives he doesn't mention her, if he dies she only tells her son who his father was.[/sp]
How similar is Metro LL compared to 2033 in terms of gameplay?
I'm debating on buying it next time I see it for ~$20.
similar, but better

You now have a melee hotkey (which you won't really use for actual melee), you can knock out enemies from behind, you can't look at your watch anymore, you can pull out your lighter and only your lighter rather than your entire journal, combat feels faster paced and more precise, reloading is faster, and it's easier to make out what happens in the middle of a fight.
So I'm reading Metro 2034...
Which is considered the official continuation of the story? Last light? Or are the books and games 2 seperate worlds
I have no idea because I haven't read the books but Metro 2033 is supposed to follow the book but you can get a different ending than the book. Last Light continues the game timeline but picks the canon ending from the first game (which is considered the bad one). From what I've heard LL is it's own story.

They are each their own stories to a degree. Many of the major events line up but there are a lot of details contradicted between the two as well, such as who dies where and how Artyom gets to places. Metro 2035, the next book, will supposedly tell the events of Last light. I imagine its something similar to the new Star Trek versus the old, two seperate timelines that share many similarities.

As far as I know they're essentially the same universe but there are different canons/continuities for the book and the games.

Can I still just pull out my throwing knives and stab off dead enemy's equipment?
I was really amused by that last time I played IIRC.
-snip- wrong thread. sorry.-
I ctrl+f'd "S.T.A.L.K.E.R." and didn't notice. But, uh, in other news...that stripper in Venice Station! Huh! Huuh!
fun fact
there are like 30 metro spinoff novels that will most likely never see the day of an english translation

But maybe we'll see them in video game form

Might see them as DLC.
Speaking of, the Last Light DLC was pretty damn good, especially the library.
Yeah, Kshatriya was fucking awesome, one of my favourite ever DLCs
it's a shame most of the others weren't anywhere near as good :(
if they just made a whole game like Kshatriya i would be entirely satisfied

No, explosives and knives are now attributed to a quick-use key. You can't use your throwing knives to stab shit now.

I would play the shit out of this, imagine walking around the kremlin or red square in it's full glory.
Every time I play a metro game I am reminded of how amazing a post apocalyptic free roaming game in a fucked up urban environment would be, and I am also reminded of how much bethesda squandered the opportunity when they had it with fallout 3.
I love fallout 3 but fuck the metro/urban environments were boring as fuck.

Unless it takes place post-2033 though, going into the Kremlin would be a death sentence.
DA STARS OF DA KREMLINNNNN
is this a spoiler?

Dont think anybody would get it
[sp]Unless they are reading/read the book[/sp]

A couple of Hanza guards mention it briefly at Market in the first game as well but I doubt many people remember or even heard/payed attention to the conversation. A note talks about how the rangers purged the Kremlin in Last Light too but even then you have to read the book to understand the whole event.
