No they are not two separate entities. The game is based on the book and that's final. [sp]Isn't Hunter's unexplainable help in the end enough?[/sp] Of course you don't have to read the book. It wouldn't make any sense if you had to if the game strays too far from the original story. It's a lot easier to tell the story if the games and the book are as similar as possible. Of course you can throw in more gameplay elements, like the Nosalis' in this case. And that's fine to me. As long as it stays within the game boundaries. It is easier to add than to change already existing things, without messing it all up. [sp]The shadow people are stuck in an endless cycle of reliving their final moments. They can't just stray off like that. They're not ghosts.[/sp] Your idea would work in another game. But not in the metro universe.

But not in the metro universe.
Take it from my point of view, Ive never read the book and just starting to play the game, I'm confronted with these [sp]shadow people,[/sp] soon after a couple encounters they disappear from the game altogether (to my experience anyway), with a very vague explanation as to what they are. The point I was trying (and failing, I don't think im very good at explaining things) is that one of the more interesting and unique aspects of Metro, which made it stand out in my mind compared to other games, felt as if it was an after thought (although it wasn't, apparently the [sp]shadow people[/sp] are in the book also). Which leads me to thinking, 4A should have added to those characters/ interpreted the book/ deviate from the book in order to appear a more unique game. One could argue that their are equally good human sidekick characters who company you through the game, as well as the inhabitants of the Metro itself, those characters all rang a familiar tune of oppression and hardship that nearly every post apocalyptic game has. Its all my personal opinion, and who cares whether I say yay or nay.
Read the book, you'll see how big the difference is between it and the game.
Why aren't that many people posting in this thread? This game is awesome.
People like the STALKER series more i guess
A linear game everyone has already completed doesn't have much to discuss, really that's why STALKER is more popular too, although most of the users there have played Metro
Metro 2033 is like STALKER's Agroprom Underground, except it's not boring.
You could play Metro for 8 hours and have fuckloads of fun, or play STALKER for weeks with average fun.
Eh, I beated Metro over at my friend's place, it's great, but only for the first time.
Eh, I beated Metro over at my friend's place, it's great, but only for the first time.
I'm thinking of replaying it again, since I read the book.
I found Metro really boring, combat sucks
I liked the combat. And I liked shooting people's gas masks off on the surface. That's fun.
This is a good game and needs to be discussed more. I just got this game yesterday, and I'm fucking addicted to it. It's unbelievably amazing. I always laugh when I hear reused STALKER sounds, the fact that they call some people stalkers too is funny. And some of you might recognize me from the STALKER thread, I post kinda regularly, and STALKER is my favorite series of all time but Metros atmosphere KILLS STALKERS. I always listen in on conversations. And this game has actually made me feel sad actually besides like once that STALKER ever has. [editline]10:53PM[/editline] I can get attached to characters in Metro and STALKER can't always evoke this feeling. I got sad watching this soldier dad ask his son what he wanted from his journey and the boy got all excited what his dad promised to bring. I couldn't help but think "He might die and his kid will never get those things" It also really hit me when [sp]bourbon died, he was trying to change and looked over you[/sp]
Does anybody know the song that plays at sparta and shrine to hope?
Oh my god I found it. It is called Sparta Chant Oh it didn't automerge. What a shame

I cannot wait until I get my new system built. Two months until I can afford it all. Two months....
http://metro2033.wikidot.com/
project is dead and the book is already officially translated
Could anyone who's got a good enough pc to enable GI post some pictures?
settings are dx11, v high, tessalation on, dof off, aaa, 4x af here is a better one with mouseover, look at the cup in the bottom right there is a slight difference but i wouldnt say one was better than the other http://comparescreenshots.slicx.com/comparison/84445

There's parts where light shines from outside through cracks into a dark-ish room and it lights up more with GI, and you can see slight colour on the bounced light.

I liked the old cover of the book better . . . Good thing i know quite few languages, didn't had to wait long.
How the fuck were we supposed to know the dark ones are trying to help? They were killing our friends, fucking with my mind and being scary. And I got the bad ending because I always ran to Hunter in those visions. Who would you run to? The big scary death creature or your long lost friend? I love this game but they did not make that part very clear.
I thought it was pretty clear with the visions and the "STOP HIM HES GOING TO HURT US" thing, especailly sicne the dark ones were never really attacking anyone directly, you just heard they were. Of course it's pretty impossible to get the good ending unless you do everything right and know what to do, which sucks.
Well the bad ending is the canon one
Actually in the books [sp]both exhibition (Artyom's home station) and the botanical gardens (the home of the dark ones) gets nuked[/sp]
