The game runs well on highest settings. Well, not super great, at least on my hardware. Damn my CPU.

So is this a remake of the original or like a prequel ? I didn't play the 1st Deux Ex but I REALLY liked the alpha that got leaked, so I'm thinking of getting it.

It is now AUGust 20th. Now to pray that there is a subtle lack of attention in some shipping office and I end up getting it a day or two early.

That is because the developers wanted to create a strong contrast between the west and the east, along with their attitudes to augmentation. The original Deus Ex only had two city hubs - New York and Hong Kong. Paris was not really a city hub - more like a rush to complete your objective with some small side-questing if you wanted to. The original Deus Ex did have a lot of open spaces. But these open spaces were bland, boring and not interesting or fun to traverse. Human Revolution rectifies this by making areas smaller, and also pumping tonnes of detail in pretty much every nook and cranny.
