Pre-ordering augmented via steam doesn't give you the preorder bonuses!?
Please don't ignore, I need to know so I can revoke my preorder and get it from somewhere else instead.
You will not get ingame SUPERUNSTEALTHY stuff and the mission. You will get a free copy of Deus Ex: GOTY and a digital artbook with the soundtrack I think. I may be wrong though.

From the product page on Steam:
• Free, giftable copy of Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition to play right now. (The game will be giftable if you already own the game)
• Exclusive 40-page Artbook - Showcasing the concepts behind the world of 2027. Discover the origins of the design, the characters and the weapons of Deus Ex: Human Revolution
• 44-minute making-of chronicling the trials and tribulations of the Eidos-Montreal team
• Motion comic based on the first issue of the DC Comics adaptation
• Game soundtrack composed by Michael McCann
• E3 Trailer and animated storyboard
Basically, the only pre-order bonus is that copy of Deus Ex 1.
I was reading /v/ and people were getting the English meaning of the title "Deus Ex" wrong, so I decided to have a good old nerdrage. I knew studying latin for 2 years would pay off someday:
No you're all fucking wrong.
"Deus Ex Machina" means "God from the machine" or "God out of the machine".
The "Ex" part means out of, it's where we get words like "explode", "export", "explain" etc.
The title "Deus Ex" therefore means "God From" or "God Out Of", leading the reader to affix "Machina" ("Machine") in their minds. This is mirrored in the game, where one of the THEMES is that Gods may be wrought by machines ("If there were no God, it would be necessary to invent him" - Voltaire), but not necessarily - the player can choose to side with Helios or he may choose otherwise.
Thus "Deus Ex" applies to all three endings:
- Deus Ex (Machina) : The player sides with Helios, thus creating a God figure from a machine
- Dei Ex (Optimates): The player sides with the Illuminati, thus creating Gods from learned and wealthy individuals
- Deus Ex (Universum): The player sides with no one and destroys Area 51, thus making the title literal - God out of the world - banished, removed.
Alright, I was looking at prices on Green Man Gaming and it is about $5 cheaper. It is pretty much the same thing, with the exception that you can only get Deus Ex 1 through their client and not Steam.
I think I'm going to get it off of there, mainly because I don't care if I have the first game on Steam, and I can just activate the key on Steam and avoid their crappy client.
All I wanted was the soundtrack, I'm sure there are... other ways to get the extra mission. *cough*
I never asked for the extra missions&cash&weapons
Making exclusive missions is a load of bullshit. Everyone should have access to the same content.

Yeah. I was looking forward to that Tracer Tong mission too. I don't mind weapons being exclusive but when stuff like that is exclusive, it really pisses me off.
GITS = Ghost in the Shell, an otherwise decent cyberpunk anime but with lots of fanservice.
Decent? Show me a better one outside lain :v:
That is amazing. Wish I could install it as my wallpaper.
900x563 that's great.
I wonder if there will be hidden/easter egg references to DX: Recut or the Malkavian mod since they're popular
I doubt.
I do not move out of the way.

I know, right? I hope his appearance in the mission isn't his only appearance because that's retarded if so.
Should I get the steam aug edition or the amazon one?

So Steam doesn't give you the rifle and shotgun? Okay I can deal with that.

I thought Tracer Tong was exclusive to Gamestop, and not the Augmented Edition.
Why isn't that mission mentioned on the Steam page?

I thought deus ex machina referred to when a seemingly intractable problem is solved abruptly by an unexpected means (deus referring to the miraculous solution, and "ex machina" meaning from the machine as in "made by the author's hands").

Yeah, pretty much. When an author writes himself into a corner he either brings in new characters, makes a magical plot device, or both. The solution (God) comes from the plot device (machine).

Yup, but the origin of the term goes all the way back to Greek theater. When an actor was playing a god, they would be lowered in on a harness from a crane- this crane was the "machina" carrying the "deus".

Half asleep, for some reason I read it as "carrying the douche" :v:
considering picking up Icarus Effect
is it a good read?

Yeah it's pretty good.
[editline]20th July 2011[/editline]
It doesn't have Jensen or any of the main characters in it though, they're only given mentions.
Isn't the Tong ending, "Nuke ex machina"?

Does anyone know what the hacking device that you get with the collector's edition does? I hope it's not some instant-win thing because I want to play and enjoy the hacking as was intended.
Making exclusive missions is a load of bullshit. Everyone should have access to the same content.
This mission was originally cut from the game, but re-added to add incentive to pre-ordering.
You'll probably be able to buy it as DLC after a short while.

It instantly hacks any electronic device. It's not unique to the pre-order, you can still find and buy them without it; the pre-order just gives you one at the beginning of the game.
You have to manually use it, so if you'd prefer to hack the old fashioned way, you can do so.
