not that I'm aware of, all of those were hashing algorithms that always end up with a hexadecimal string with a defined string length; the "secret message" isn't hexadecimal.

I used the regular baton for knocking people out. I used the crossbow a lot, but for the wrong reason.

Fire into a wall, and it makes a sound. Enemies turn towards the noise. Then you can sprint past them, make as much noise as you want, whatever.

Yep, but it usually takes a couple of hits. The melee aug helps.

For those having trouble in deus ex, just practice. I'm able to complete the first mission, even rescue gunther, without being seen, and without knocking anyone out.

Take the GEP gun. Both the sniper and the crossbow can be found In the first mission. The next GEP gun is several missions ahead.

Even non lethal, the group gun is useful for some doors early on, robots, and distraction.
