I have never played any Deus Ex game, but I'm really fascinated by the universe and atmosphere, besides the rpg/fps mix looks really great. Furthermore the options that the player has sounds really awesome.
Is there any story that I should know of? Is this game connected to the old one?

Yeah, it's connected but it's not an absolute requirement to play the original before playing the new one.
However, if you do play the original, you will understand certain references to characters, corporations and even memorable lines in the new game.
It's definitely worth checking out if you're serious about buying Human Revolution.

Aye, also keep in mind that the original took place a good few years into the future. The original saw the mechanically augmented humans as outdated, while this one depicts them as cutting edge.
The second Deus Ex was way into the future. But we don't talk about that one.
EDIT: And everyone says it, but I cannot stress it enough:
DON'T LET THE FIRST LEVEL OF THE ORIGINAL TURN YOU OFF THE GAME. The first level is half tutorial, half intro to the story. The initial mission is sorta establishing a story baseline while teaching you the basics. So if it strikes you as too slow or straightforward, then don't be surprised.
That said, the first level still has a huge amount of ways you can approach any particular problem and I didn't find it to be nearly as unpleasant as many other people do.
The first level sucks compared to the rest of the game.

I saw the game once when a pal played it. He was on the first level and it looked like crap. I really thought like how could such a game be so amazing.
I've tried to stay away from this thread in an attempt to go into the game as oblivious as I could in order to get that 'wow' factor, but it being only a couple weeks away until release i've given in. I've had the augmented edition pre-ordered for months, let's fucking do this.
