I live in Europe too so the release day is here 9th of september, of course I'd like to play tomorrow with US. here are steps how to do it (this worked with Deux Ex and other games too, so it should work with this too).
1. shut down Steam
2. Get yourself US vpn.
2.A I will be using http://www.freeusvpn.com/ because it is free, but I am not sure if its fully reliable. I have tried it few times with nothing to worry about, but I am not responsible of the problems you might encourage.
2.B Here is another free one which my friend has used a lot but I don't have personal history with it http://usaip.eu/en/free_vpn.php . Download: http://usaip.eu/en/USAIP.pbk and run it, select "USAIP PPTP California". Account/password: demo
3. you should now be connected to internet via that VPN. Your firewall might ask you about the network. Select whatever you find most suitable.
4. Start steam and Launch Dead Island. Let it install all the necessary files etc.
5. Close the game and close Steam
6. Turn off the VPN connection.
7. Go to the "Steam\steamapps\common\Dead Island" -folder
8. Create a text file in the Dead Island directory called "steam_appid.txt" and put 91319 inside it. Save the file.
9. Start steam and laucnh your game from Dead Island directory
So this won't work yet but it will when they release the game in the US. So this tutorial is suitable for non-US players who want to play the game earlier. I will be trying this in 15 hours when DI is released. I will post it here if I got it working.
Please PM me your results, as I am in Australia and with it now being released on the 9th I am fairly angry.

I already have the game pre-loaded, so I wont be able to do that now unless I delete and re-pre-load?
75 is good enough for me
I take Metacritic's numbers with a grain of salt usually, because they put any journalism site's review, no matter how shitty the site is, on there.

File transfer?
That distructiod review was so convoluted with opinions it was funny. But seeing as my and the same friend who Im mostly going to be playing this with have been playing borderlands almost daily since its sale on steam, Im happy to hear this is a similar game with zombies. Even if it is slightly broken.

Day 1 patches, this is worse than day 1 DLC, they're not even charging for it the nerve.

I don't know that is bad, they are fixing bugs that people encountered with the early game releases and all that, I may misunderstood this but I am happy for that.
Is it going to be like Deus ex, where by the time it gets released In the EU and everywhere else it'll have all the worse bugs patched out?
Americans are now play testers.

How dare they fix broken features, they should have fixed them before they knew about them.
Who of you guys are going to play this alone for reasons like "you have nobody to play with" or "I want to experience this game alone first" and whatever else there is?
Also I am going to play it alone on the xbox360 because I know nobody having or getting this game to play coop with me.

Day 1 patches are like students who read their essays and correct the mistakes in pen minutes before handing it in to the Professor. It show that the work was unfinished and was probably rushed to make the deadline.
I'm the same but I ain't sure about it running for you, but I know it is better then mine.
Anyway can my PC also run this? If not, horray for a 360.

So, um, just to be clear, you don't like reviews that don't contain opinions then?
What does that look like?
"This game was 30 hours long. This game has weapons you use to kill zombies. This game has graphics."
Not sure what you're getting at there, mate. Care to explain exactly what about Destructoid's review bothered you?
If your referral redirects me to the homepage does that mean it's been used?
In relation to this, I am looking for a discount on GMG. If someone would be willing to PM me their referral link I would appreciate it.

Destructoid's Jim Sterling is notorious for sometimes being a genius, but at the same time being either a huge madman or a troll.
It's pouring down rain and I get out of class at 12pm
Perfect Dead Island time man :(

You're retarded. Of course the review is opinionated, it's a review. If you want an overview, read the back of the box.

DAY ONE FIXES (patch notes)
http://www.destructoid.com/here-s-the-list-of-fixes-in-dead-island-s-day-one-patch--210646.phtml#ext
I have a question for those who know how to deal with region locked keys as I myself got one from Ultimatum Games ( not sure if that was a good idea now).
If I follow the steps to download the game via proxy and whatnot, will I need to do that every time I play my game? Or will I be able to play it normally without a proxy after the instal. Also will it even be in English?
Sorry if those seem like dumb questions but I am really new to this stuff.
Yeah, I hate it when people accuse reviews of being (personally) biased, or opinionated. I mean, duh? That's the point of reviews.
Now, corporate bias is a legitimate complaint, but it's a complaint tossed around far more often than it actually occurs, I suspect.
[editline]5th September 2011[/editline]
I mean, really. "Objective review" is like the biggest oxymoron I've ever heard.

I'm going to me mixing my play style since some of my friends can be douche-bags in games and steal items or just be general jerks lol. Some are good, but they usually don't have time to play. I'll probably play mostly by myself.
I haven't seen anything about the multiplayer aspect of this game. What's that going to be like?

What are you guys even talking about? I didn't say the review was bad at all. I just think it was funny how he loved the game so much at the same time he hated it. Its funny how his own opinion opposed himself. Cool your horses guys.

I'll play co-op with you. I got it on xbox because my IRL friends only have xboxes. They sadly get exposed to pc gaming when I buy an extra copy of games and let them play it on my laptop at my house. Anyways, me and my friend are going to play it on xbox a whole bunch after release. You're welcome to join us.
Your post made no sense. That is not the conclusion anyone made from your original post.
2 spots left for the Dead Island 4 pack (you'll actually get it tomorrow unlike the people buying it from the Russian key sites), PM if interested
Cheaper to get it from GMG.
Your post made no sense. That is not the conclusion anyone made from your original post.
No, it made sense. I said "That distructiod review was so convoluted with opinions it was funny." Multiple times he explained how he disliked the game so much in many different ways, he then went on to say how he loved the game in so many ways. And finished by saying the same exact thing: He disliked it, and liked it. I found him almost arguing with himself humorous.
I do not see how that could be taken any other way.
