How did you come to the conclusion I am mad at them by saying that their hype might backfire? I think the game looks awesome, but too many games in this generation build up a hype that they can not back up.

Don't take the hype so seriously then.
Hype is not a bad thing, but too much of anything is, youre dealing with me in blacks and whites when I am a shade of gray on this subject.
Degradation is ok as long as your weapon doesn't break 5 minutes after using it
Yeah if breaks down at the pace of weapons in STALKER that would be cool.
Generally when you're hacking through muscle and bone, your weapon won't last long. Just hope for your sakes that it is moddable.
Weapon degradation shouldn't be a huge problem considering they're toting the utility of just about anything as a weapon. It makes sense that a chair leg or a golf club won't kill very many zombies before it's almost useless. Plus it gives players a strong incentive to branch out and try other weapons, possibly out of necessity as you watch the handle of your precious fire ax start to splinter after killing a fair number of zombies, then have to start looking for whatever else is serviceable... Also, here's to hoping after you shoot the last precious shell from a beautiful, rare, shotgun you can beat the shit out of a zombie with the empty boomstick.
Weapon degradation is a must for zombie survival games, otherwise people will just find a good weapon and stick with it for the rest of the game. That doesn't mean the weapon has to disappear from your hand after 10 hits like in Dead Rising though (depends what weapon of course, a 2x4 won't last long).
I need moar info.
Video on the site made me sad. I hate it how the person or child the parents try to protect always ends up killing them in zombie movies. Zombie strippers :smug:
When weapons degrade you wont actually lose them, they will just break down to the point where it is useless and not very effective anymore.
Anyone else think the Lighthouse is going to be rather important? It just seems to stand out in the trailer and the above picture. Maybe it's used to signal a ship for rescue?

If I had to pick a building to barricade myself against zombies, a lighthouse would be at the top of the list.
I think, game is going to be awesome. RPG system with zombies, gore, and many things that you can do.
I've seen pornos with better stories. Yes I know it's the translation I'm joking.
Erotic Nights of the dead....true movie.
This might be the zombie game we've all been waiting for, hope they don't fuck it up..
I completely agree. This is the kind of zombie game I've been looking for forever. Of course, that's what I first thought of Left 4 Dead, and it wasn't what I expected. I hope this game doesn't let me down either.
A game like this in a city would of been cool, but this is still just as impressive, if not more.
The writers at IGN said that they were told the Lighthouse is an important location in the game.
Probably gonna signal a ship or helicopter towards the end. [editline]20th February 2011[/editline]
A game like this in a city would of been cool, but this is still just as impressive, if not more.
And the island does have towns and a capital. The resort is just a piece.
I remember reading about this game way back when, can't wait to play it.
Will cities be filled with locked doors and barred windows? Or will be able to venture inside enough of them?
Seems like there's a lot of screens of indoor places
Will cities be filled with locked doors and barred windows? Or will be able to venture inside enough of them?
Hopefully. However most likely only the important buildings will be accessible (resort, maybe a mall, lighthouse, etc.)
The graphics look boss.
I hope that, with the game "in production" for so many years, there should be a large amount of buildings etc explorable. I mean, in a game striving to be realistic and how anything is a weapon, I want to be able to smash through locked doors. I secretly want to go through every room in the sky-scraper hotel, smashing windows, then retreating to a nearby hill to look at the smiley face and the work "HELP" I just made. This looks promising, and if it turns out it was never even on pause, but constantly secretly in production, so that it is amazing, with everywhere explorable, it could be a truly unforgettable game. Also they better make movement good. I want to be able to jump over small (knee high) walls, vault over waist high ones (not like some pro, but in a real manner), and climb in windows, up onto roofs/ledges. I'm not really expecting this, but I think, if it was like this, it would be great, and if it didn't, it would break the immersion. Movement and freedom of it, or lack of rather, is always the greatest immersion breaker for me even in some of the best, most immersive games I have played.
Lets hope that you can enter every building.
I'm very OCD with buildings. If I can't explore, I break into a sweat and I feel claustrophobic. But seriously, I do hope with all my heart that we can explore every minor through major building.
The movie rights have NOT been sold for Dead Island! Source: http://www.ripten.com/2011/02/19/deep-silver-confirms-dead-island-movie-rights-have-not-been-sold/ But, they said that they have not yet been sold. And they are "currently looking through a vast amount of inquiries." That means that there have been offers! Multiple offers.
We are looking for quality above all else for a movie based on Dead Island. We want to do it the right way as film realizations of games (or vice versa) usually fail to deliver what the fans were looking for. We will not go down this route with Dead Island.
I highly respect Deep Silver and Techland. They want a quality movie and they seem like they wont make a movie unless they know it will be good. They also seem pretty confident that Dead Island will be a great game.
Hoping at E3 we see some gameplay and a release date confirmation.
