I'm almost 80% into the game, when do you get to make ammo?
13 of a sword that does 1200+ damage, I only use one of them and when it breaks I duplicate a fixed one, is that bad?
I beat the game and I only have the recipe for Pistol Ammo :( [editline]15th September 2011[/editline]
You forgot the part where [thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/576682317061840839/1FBCAE8C23D12DADE6D2897C2400122D04F1EBDF/[/thumb][thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/576682317061842176/15EC533E73E0B3A5860F079E98C42AA33FC6FACC/[/thumb][thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/576682317061842682/F88E57D05D230A5A0BEE5BBE2A4EA59D0FA471A2/[/thumb]
DAMN JUICE BOX WAS CURSED
I've been getting these BSODs that are preventing me from making any progress. The first few times it happened, it happened every time in the same location, after I save the lifeguard and get sent on my first mission to the bungalow. I go up the wooden steps near the safehouse and down the path a little until I reach a pool where a zombie that isn't dead yet is lying on the ground, it starts getting up and I kill it. A few seconds after that, I look around and I get a BSOD. I don't think the zombie has anything to do with it, I think it has something to do with the surroundings, or something I look at, because it crashes every time I try to look around. I reinstalled just in case and deleted my saves, but now it seems to crash when I try to start a new game, though I haven't tried it a second time yet. I DO have the BSOD reports of every BSOD, though. It seems to have something to do with my drivers: ================================================== Dump File : Mini091411-04.dmp Crash Time : 9/14/2011 10:53:54 PM Bug Check String : UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP Bug Check Code : 0x1000007f Parameter 1 : 0x00000008 Parameter 2 : 0xb8340d70 Parameter 3 : 0x00000000 Parameter 4 : 0x00000000 Caused By Driver : nv4_disp.dll Caused By Address : nv4_disp.dll+25e91a File Description : NVIDIA Windows XP Display driver, Version 280.26 Product Name : NVIDIA Windows XP Display driver, Version 280.26 Company : NVIDIA Corporation File Version : 6.14.12.8026 Processor : 32-bit Crash Address : nv4_disp.dll+25eb19 Stack Address 1 : Stack Address 2 : Stack Address 3 : Computer Name : Full Path : C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini091411-04.dmp Processors Count : 2 Major Version : 15 Minor Version : 2600 Dump File Size : 114,688 ================================================== ================================================== Dump File : Mini091411-02.dmp Crash Time : 9/14/2011 7:32:14 PM Bug Check String : UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP Bug Check Code : 0x1000007f Parameter 1 : 0x00000008 Parameter 2 : 0x80042000 Parameter 3 : 0x00000000 Parameter 4 : 0x00000000 Caused By Driver : nv4_disp.dll Caused By Address : nv4_disp.dll+25e4dc File Description : NVIDIA Windows XP Display driver, Version 280.26 Product Name : NVIDIA Windows XP Display driver, Version 280.26 Company : NVIDIA Corporation File Version : 6.14.12.8026 Processor : 32-bit Crash Address : nv4_disp.dll+25e7c8 Stack Address 1 : Stack Address 2 : Stack Address 3 : Computer Name : Full Path : C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini091411-02.dmp Processors Count : 2 Major Version : 15 Minor Version : 2600 Dump File Size : 114,688 ================================================== They both happened twice, though I didn't post the other two because I didn't want to clutter up this post any further than I already have. I looked up the BSOD parameters and it seems to have something to do with faulty hardware, but the reports say it has something to do with my drivers, so I'm not really sure. I'd really like some help on this, because I can't seem to make any progress because of it. Sorry for the really big post. I'm using a 9800 GTX+, by the way, if that helps.
Ok, well don't spoil it too much for me, but is it better to spend skill points on the 'more looting ammo skill' or the 'more ammo you make' skill?
I only sunk one point into each, but I'd say it's better to put points in the more ammo you make skill. [sp]Bandits are annoying to grind for their ammo, and are only in certain areas of the game.[/sp] Going with the more stable income with ammo is the better choice in my opinion.
I'm almost 80% into the game, when do you get to make ammo?
You have to find blueprints for it. I found pistol ammo crafting in [sp]the police station.[/sp] I have no clue where the other two are.
The guns only get accurate after you've fired a shot first, it's really annoying that you have to waste a shot just to start shooting straight.
The guns only get accurate after you've fired a shot first, it's really annoying that you have to waste a shot just to start shooting straight.
I didn't have that issue, I was actually really good with guns in this game which is odd considering I'm usually a horrible shot. Unless you're talking about shooting from the hip or something, I almost always use ironsights.
I managed to get it working by following this: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2109298 I guess changing the FSAA settings doesn't do anything, at least for most people.
Ah, I'm on ati so I didn't have that issue, I'm glad you got it fixed.
File Description : NVIDIA Windows XP Display driver, Version 280.26
Uhh.....reinstall your driver? [editline]14th September 2011[/editline] And by that, I mean uninstall then reinstall.
Made my 3k damage green deathstalker katana. Once i get the brown skull and 3 more diamonds (which you can get by trading in bottles of champagne to this lady) im going to make that dev weapon that lets you shoot lightning out of your hands.

Nevermind, as i expected my deathstalker katana disappeared from my inventory.

I turn, following and follow him, to realize his flipped over. "Oh that's okay we can just use the other truck keyblockor has." They turn to me. My truck is perfectly horizontal, wedged between the hill and a tree 10 feet up, no possible way to get down.
Yeah, but thankfully shotguns and rifles (non-white) are not as weak as pistols, that alone makes up for it.
My Beretta was stronger than my Kalashnikov.
Unless you're talking about shooting from the hip or something, I almost always use ironsights.
Nope, I'll have any gun out, go into ironsights, I'll fire off one shot and I can see it hitting the ceiling or the floor or some other out of the way place like that, then I'll do it again but this time follow up within a second or two afterwards and it shoots straight. I was messing about with guns without using ironsights and saw that the crosshair only shows up when you fire and it also starts zeroing in after firing, not before. Seriously to the point where even close range with a shotgun my shots largely miss until after the very first shot at which point so long as I keep up the fire it's accurate. Works the same way in and out of ironsights it would seem. Also the reason you may think you are better at aiming in this game whereas normally you are a poor shot is that the game has very noticeable magnetism, that is, auto-aiming. It isn't as bad as it is in other titles as it only happens within the first few seconds or using ironsights and also when you near a target with your aim rather than it being constantly dragging your aim towards an enemy. I found it annoying though as it was throwing off my shots and that combined with the first shot being inaccurate created for some rage inducing moments just trying to land a shot.
My Beretta was stronger than my Kalashnikov.
I've not once had a pistol that was decent (even purple tier ones) but I have absolutely DEVASTATING auto-rifles and shotguns. They tear through anything in a heartbeat, 1-3 shots from my autorifle kills any common zombie, and I killed the last boss with a single chest shot from my shotgun. That same shotgun can also one-shot any zombie excluding Rams as long as I get them in the head no farther than mid-range. I guess we both just have better luck in different areas. Just wish I found the shotgun ammo making blueprint and the rifle ammo blueprint. Keep playing, you'll get better stuff. Dead Island's items are RPG-like so you just gotta find a decent gun that's not white. I also was playing as Purna with all the firearms skills maxed out, so that helps a bunch too. Pistols are still absolute rubbish though, regardless of tier as my purple pride-modded deagle acts like throwing grapes at an angry elephant despite being the same level as myself and the zombies. (Except for when it crits of course.)
Nope, I'll have any gun out, go into ironsights, I'll fire off one shot and I can see it hitting the ceiling or the floor or some other out of the way place like that, then I'll do it again but this time follow up within a second or two afterwards and it shoots straight. And yeah, I figured it may have been some auto-aiming system that made me seem better than I usually am. Ah, well. :v:
I've been playing this game, and it's pretty decent so far. I'm only at act 1, and there was a glitch where i couldn't pick up any weapons so I had to punch my way through 30+ minutes of gameplay. I now use only my fists for fighting. I find it more comfortable than using melee weapons. Once you kill the first Thug in the lifeguard station using only a thrown crowbar. a propane tank, and liberal use of your fists and feet, it's pretty damn cool.
You have to find blueprints for it. I found pistol ammo crafting in [sp]the police station.[/sp] I have no clue where the other two are.
Shotgun ammo is also there, too.
That's seriously really weird, I don't have that one-shot problem.
By any chance are you playing at default settings? That is not having changed anything outside of the ingame options menu like field of view. I have mine set at 100 and I've noticed that it causes minor issues like having to stand a bit back from what I want to interact with and other minor things, my friends all have edited field of view settings and have experienced the inaccurate first shot issue as well, wouldn't be surprised if it was down to that.
Shotgun ammo is also there, too.
Damn, how the hell did I miss that? Thanks for the info, was going crazy looking for it. I hear that any FOV higher than 90 causes issues, though I've never been told what issues those are exactly. Seems like this would be one of the issues.

It's kind of annoying but I've gotten used to it now. [editline]15th September 2011[/editline] My FOV is at 82.5 as well.

Just checked, it is most definitely a problem with FoV, at 62.5 the first shot is always accurate, at anything higher you have to have shot first.

I've heard something about a new game+ kind of thing where you can replay the campaign with your high-level character. If it's real, what exactly do you keep and what do you not keep?
If you get point blank on a wall while using ironsights, it'll bring the crosshair up and then shooting will be accurate for a few seconds without having to fire a shot. It seems like it isn't just a case of the crosshair being in the wrong place, I've fired close range at a wall and had the shot just disappear. [editline]15th September 2011[/editline]
I'm at 70 and I'm fine, but it's good you found out why it's doing it.
I never tested it any higher so it's probably fine up until a certain point, I don't know what it is though.

Just be sure to take everything you want from Jin before you beat the game. I made the mistake of leaving tons of good shit on her before beating it, and I have no idea if my old stuff will be on her when I finally get access to her again. I'm currently doing a new experience as Xian Mei though. Her survival tree sucks, but holy hell her combat tree is amazing. Having lots of fun with her so far.
How so? New quests and rewards, or what?
Same quests, slightly different rewards. Although you get slightly different rewards anyway for quests. Zombies still level with you so it doesn't get any easier. -doublepost snip-
