Or just throw stuff at them, works like a charm.
FUCKING THUGS! How the hell do you take one down? I just end up throwing every weapon I have at them until it dies. But when you have two in an enclosed area it's sort of hard.
learn their attacks, some of them just do one long arm swing, others will do a flurry of three and always three, it's one or the other always break or chop their arms off first molotovs will usually kill them
can people please understand this: You absolutely CANNOT get VAC banned for doing ANYTHING other than editing the game's memory while it is running or editing the game's DLLs. Even if you do get VAC banned for editing the memory or DLLs it will ONLY be for Dead Island, NOTHING ELSE. You will NEVER be banned for simply editing the game's files (modding), and this goes for ANY game secured by VAC. so tired of seeing completely false VAC fear-mongering everywhere
I know, but better safe than sorry, right ? and you can safely mod the entire game using the out folder, so there's no need to edit anything. And if everything else fails when dealing with thugs, throw everything in your inventory, that usually works too.
I heard if you play as Logan you get VAC banned for not choosing Sam B.
Removing the arms of thugs reduces their chance of murdering you with their fists. They'll nip at you, but it does less damage than a Walker hit. Do that and continue on your job. If they get too close, just lead them somewhere else and sprint away. {REMOVE, not BREAK}

But when you have two in an enclosed area it's sort of hard.
I'll just quote an old tutorial of mine:
Uh yeah, except they aren't dangerous if you are a master of Thuganomics like me. *First, take out all the other mo-fo dead-heads in the area before attacking tha Thug. This makes your fight much easier to control. *Second, know their attacks! You have 0.5 seconds to react to their attacks before you get flattened so watch yo-self and DODGE! With both arms they have a single swing, a three-hit combo and a counter when you hit them, yo biggest weapon is knowing which attack they are gonna use and react accordingly! Be a punk and not know their patterns and you're gonna end up with a mouth full of rotten flesh. *Third, break those shoulders! Good openings are when it's finished it's attacks and when it tries dancing, a way to force this is a normal kick which makes 'em flail about 50% of the time. When this happens make sure you have a weapon with a lot of force (it's the number under the damage counter of the weapon). Smack 'em there and they are almost harmless! *Fourth, start farmin! Like this tha Thug can't swing at ya, which drastically shortens it's reach. What's a few bites gonna do to you? Switch to a weapon that's weak and broken and drive the message across, you won't be killing this pussy anytime soon and you'll be makin XP like it's Christmas! Do this and you can see yourself leveling up minutes! Now who do
YOU
Voodoo bitch? Word.
This method is more catered towards Sam B whom can benefit from toying with Thugs but the same principals apply for other characters to tackle a Thug.
Found an alternate ending, go to █████████ and grab the ██████ give it to ███ and then beat the game
http://steamcommunity.com/id/ATDoop/screenshot/560919718425011171 How do I fix this? I can't play the game cause everything is messed up and flickering and makes me feel sick and hggh. I verified the game cache but no problems there, I looked on the steam forums but I can't find anybody else with the problem. My graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 6800, any known issues with that?
Katanas always insta cut-off thugs arms for me.

If they are up to date and you're not overheating, then I have no clue.
Also hitting their legs occasionally makes them bend over giving you time to cut their arm or strike a blow.
anyone know of a way to get higher than 2048x2048 shadows for NVIDIA cards? I had it at 3072 before and now it makes me crash
anyone know of a way to get higher than 2048x2048 shadows for NVIDIA cards? I could be wrong though, but I've not heard of anyone successfully having it any higher than that without crashing.
Would I get banned?
No
I think it's a missed opportunity that you can't cut off their legs without killing them, but you can cut off their arms and they're still alive.
I noticed that on any normal zombie, if you cut or break both of their arms then jump kick them their ragdoll will spaz and they'll always die. Pretty weird.

I have 4096x4096 on my 6900series and it works fine.

A shitty map, but it at least tells you where to find that mod you may be missing.
that's a cool map
Not really helpful though :P Full Quality http://www.mediafire.com/?sfr7qpm354aef84
There's a map app on the Apple App store. (Good god that was a lot of "ap"-syllables.) It's 3 bucks, but apparently it contains the location of all the collectibles. I might buy it at some point. If it's feasible, I'll take screenshots of the locations and post 'em here.
Have been on holiday with the girlfriend for a week. Came back to a lot of new posts. Anyone be kind enough to fill me in or show me what ive missed? Any new bug fixes or news? Barely played the game before we jetted off, only got about 3 hours play time.

Not much else to tell.

the first time I heard the scream of an infected I must confess I was scared shitless
I'm still surprised that the game is as moddable as it is. They're really finding a lot of things that can tweak or even unlock in the game files, and it's not very hard to do yourself so you can tweak things to your liking. Like yesterday I saw a mod adding a chainsaw back into the game.

I have to wait 6 weeks until I have enough money for this game :suicide:
So I changed some of the values on the zombies and characters, now zombies have double the health and weapons effectively do half the damage. Also doubled the zombies damage and made the cash lost on death 100%. Lastly I changed it so merchants sell guns and ammo. Currently playing as the firearms expert, guns only--no melee weapons period. Tense as fuck going around in the city, even more so with the cash loss-on-death since money is my lifeblood (need it to buy ammo). Just need a way to properly increase the spawns of zombies and I'll be happy. As it is, playing with my friends with the current settings has the game just difficult enough for us to be wary of large spawns, but we still charge in. Alas I cannot do anything else to the zombies lest they become stupidly hard to kill. I'd much rather have hordes of normal zombies than a few uber ones. Although I'm pleasantly surprised that a game with almost no official modding support is surprisingly easy to mod.
