So I changed some of the values on the zombies and characters, now zombies have double the health and weapons effectively do half the damage. Also doubled the zombies damage and made the cash lost on death 100%. Lastly I changed it so merchants sell guns and ammo.
Currently playing as the firearms expert, guns only--no melee weapons period. Tense as fuck going around in the city, even more so with the cash loss-on-death since money is my lifeblood (need it to buy ammo). Just need a way to properly increase the spawns of zombies and I'll be happy. As it is, playing with my friends with the current settings has the game just difficult enough for us to be wary of large spawns, but we still charge in. Alas I cannot do anything else to the zombies lest they become stupidly hard to kill. I'd much rather have hordes of normal zombies than a few uber ones.
Although I'm pleasantly surprised that a game with almost no official modding support is surprisingly easy to mod.
Unfortunately, you can't modify spawns without modifying the game maps, and if you do both players have to have it or they can't play together.
Did you also beef up firearms damage? I can't imagine using only guns unless I could rely on headshots.

I can't change from digital to analog controls.

oh, thank you.
Actually, people at SPUF found out you can hex edit to increase zombie spawns.

You still have to edit the map.
I really enjoyed this game more than I thought I would, I've just finished my first play through, I really like the gib system and the gun play feels just right for this sort of RPG.
You still have to edit the map.
What's that have to do with anything? I was just letting Axznma know you can in fact edit zombie spawns.

Yeah, I just wish people would realize that just because the pistols in this game suck doesn't mean the autorifles and shotguns do too.
I love the ending where it turns out that Sam B is a ghost and all the zombies are aliens and you're actually dead and died during the first mission.
What's that have to do with anything?
oh, thank you.
Be warned, with the mod installed you basically can't accept/decline quests.
Well you can but you have to switch back to Keyboard mode and when I do that it breaks the game somehow for me.

Right, but you didn't instruct on how to do it, and the way I said it was just to let him know incase he was curious. I wasn't intentionally implying anything.
Anyone know of a cool tutorial on where to get/place the skulls? Only found/placed the orange one, and found the purple one.

That's what I've heard too. I'm just waiting for someone else to do it. My friends and I only play with each other, so having custom maps won't be much of an issue for us.
I don't believe so, although I did it all at 3 AM in the morning after not sleeping for two days and with a bad cold, so it's possible I simply don't remember what the hell I was doing.
I'm a pretty good deadeye, so my intention when changing the zombies was with the event of me getting headshots most of the time anyways. With a good pistol I can take out walkers in about 6 shots to the head, shotguns still blow their heads off at point blank, and a good rifle will do the job in 3-6 headshots.
Their health is probably excessive, and with walkers having the ability to 3 shot you it probably seems a bit overkill, but it was the only thing I could do to keep the game entertaining for us. It was just too easy. Now with Thugs having nearly instant death damage and Rammers close behind, and with normal zombies thrown into the mix that are actually a threat, it really makes the game tense for us. Especially since dying means losing everything, cash wise at least.
Although we have yet to get to the Butchers with these settings, I foresee many a fortune being lost though.
Yeah, I really don't like how weak most guns are. They're near useless against any non-human enemy unless you feel like using up all of your ammo.
There's already a chainsaw in the game.
Really? Where?
It's a novelty item
Anyone else actually enjoy the gunfights with the punks and raiders? I thought it would suck, enemies with guns in a zombie game would remind me of Resident Evil 5 I thought. But the guns handle really cool, and headshots are satisfying.
Yeah, I really don't like how weak most guns are. They're near useless against any non-human enemy unless you feel like using up all of your ammo.
Pretty much. Which is why I wanted merchants to sell ammo. Got rid of the ammo caps too. Obviously it makes sense to have 12 sledge hammers in your pockets, meanwhile I can only hold some 50 rounds of pistol ammo. I hate games that do that. Try and be "flexible" while attempting realism. One or the other please.
I honestly don't see how anyone can play as a firearms expert with the stock settings. I always felt gimped. A firearms expert should not be using melee weapons as a primary. Hell I would go so far as to say that if she's going to focus on guns she shouldn't even be using melee weapons as a secondary. Anything else leaves me feeling gimped compared to the other characters, which was the main reason I made the changes in the first place involving guns.
Well the ammo caps are perfectly balanced just cary enough scrap metal and cleaners around to make more and use purnas skill to make 75% more. I am level 43 and I need about 2 headshots for walkers with my deagle and I killed the last 700 enemys with firearms with about 50 headstombs and 10 melee kills.
Firearms arent weak, they are perfectly balanced and everybody saying otherwise didnt think of good tactics how to use them all the time. If you want more helpful info about surviving with only guns then ask me specific things, the last 25hours of my gameplay with Purna where only with firearms and with shooting nearly everything that comes my way, trust me it works without glitches and shit.
It's also kind of pissing me off how some people here complain about the so "weak" firearms probably even when playing purna, because these firearms sure aren't weak that I am finding and I never run out of ammo because well guess what, tactics and logical things.
Also carrying 80 pistol 90 rifle and 35 shotgun ammo is enough to keep you killing zombies for about an half hour if you go on a rampage most likely. (Purna skill increases caps, which are set perfectly in my opinion and anything higher I would consider cheating)
The ammo caps would make perfect sense if guns did reasonable damage. But they're basically worthless against zombies.
I'm not saying you should be able to rely on firearms, but you ought to at least be able to take down a few zombies with a reasonable amount of ammo. Seriously, go try to take out, say, a Floater with a heavy pistol or magnum. You'll probably chew through about half of your ammo.
Autorifles and shotguns DO reasonable damage provided they aren't white. Pistols never do reasonable damage regardless of tier.
Find better stuff. I have a lower level green autorifle that kills common zombies in 1-3 shots despite it being outdated massively, and I can one-shot literally anything in the head with a shotgun blast including the final boss.
Pistols more or less are always useless though. So yeah, go find better autorifles/shotguns and you'll find it's just pistols that suck in this game.
My main character was Purna, so this is probably why I find guns amazing. I agree the ammo caps are too low, and after I beat the game fairly, I set all mine to 7,500.

How can you know? Tactics is the word here, it takes up to 2 shotgun hits to the head with an glory shotgun (modification) and hes dead, simple as that. Why worthless? In every online coop game yet I stole all the kills from my teammates by simply first killing the zombies in 2-3 freaking easy headshots (but you need to be atleast lvl40 for all the skills to kick in, remember that) and when theres a critical hit with an glory modified pistol (which is about over 15-20% chance with pefect skills activated) then its an one shot, simple.
Seriously people, stop saying guns are worthless because they are hilariously strong when rightly used.

Well I've been using a 650 damage magnum I found (800+ with upgrades) since I figured that'd be a good way of judging firearm capabilities. It's worthless. I also have a 350 damage assault rifle, but that's proven utterly worthless as well. I just found a new shotgun, but it took three point-blank shots to kill a single Infected.
I did beat the game 3 times and I can surely tell that most of my kills come from my purple heavy pistol modified with glory thingy that sends enemys flying. Standard damage for it is upgraded 1200 but from the skills its about 2100 in the head, one critical hit they are dead and penetration plays a big role in this too since I pick my targets wisely.
[editline]18th September 2011[/editline]
Also when playing purna you need the wunderwaffe skill and all critical skills very badly since 30 percent damage plus is amazing much and kicks in when you do the glory thing on the pistol as modification.
