It's clearly broken because the rest of us can't play or anything :downs: It's not a broken game, you're on Vista with a 5770.
Then explain how I can run Metro 2033 on all the highest settings? Or GTA IV? Or RAGE with no problems at all? If my computer is suck a piece of shit then why does every other game work but not this one? [editline]11th October 2011[/editline]
The game isn't broken, its your fault somehow.
Installed game - opened game - press play - 10 frames per second, low quality visuals, artifacts all over the fucking place. Im sorry, but when did I do something wrong here?
Oh wow.. [thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/DeadIslandGame_2011-10-10_17-51-22-52.png[/thumb]
Being honest with myself, the duplication glitch being patched made the game seem more dull to me somehow. It went, for me at least, from having hours of story completion and fucking around with other players to stopping every few minutes to repair my shit. Let's petition for the glitch to be returned.

So I am going to get (hopefully) Dead island this thursday, but I got some questions, How would I test it to see if it works on my system before buying it? Because I need to know if I am getting it on Steam or 360. And uh, well thats all I remember for questions.
anyone else thinks the island sucks dick? there's like 5 area's and the games is scripted to hell, not that the game's bad or anything but i hope the next one will be freeroam in a city or something.

However this game is hardly as non-linear as I would've thought. The most non-linear place in the game is probably the city, and even then it's not very huge. It's still pretty fun, but I was expecting it to be like you could go from one end of the island to another at any given time. I suppose it wouldn't really work out that way though since you could potentially mess up the story. I just wish we could've gotten a day/night cycle and dynamic weather. The devs said there would be a scripted day to night cycle as you progress through the game but I never saw this. I guess when you get to the prison it's night time, and occasionally it will rain in the city but that's about it. I was hoping to walk around in the jungle at night and the resort at sunset.
it just seems that most the island was cut, where's the airport? or docks? i see a highway on the map, why wasn't that ingame? and if they made a highway then there must have been other areas that got removed to the release of the game early.
Yeah I wish they included the airport, that would've been sweet. The highway would've been fun to have access to too, it would certainly be fun to drive along it to access other areas in the island. [editline]11th October 2011[/editline] Oh and not to mention that we only ever get to go into the hotel once, except for that mission later on [sp]where you go to the " roof " to contact that guy in the prison.[/sp] But what a rip off that was, walk up to the hotel exterior, press F to enter, cut to cutscene. Didn't even get to explore the interior again.
what about the BDF? a defense force whould have a military base on the island (aswell as a Austrailan military base on the island because banoi is close to Australia i think) and the only BDF guys that show up is [SP]ryder and his men[/SP] which is at the end of the game.
I have been to over fifteen crash fix websites, and scrolled through almost every page of this thread. I bought a copy for me and my friend to play co-op and its broken for the both of us. Broken games deserve fucking shit reviews. I contacted steam and asked them to disable the game on my account and give me my 110$ back.
If the game doesn't work for you doesn't mean it's broken for everyone and therefore deserves shit reviews. You just act like a drama queen. I'd say your problem is Vista, but you will probably keep saying "then how can I run Metro and Crysis on ultra high no problem?" It's Vista, this shit can decide to not run something properly for no reason. Maybe it's your graphics card that overheats? Maybe it's your drivers that are outdated? Just keep trying instead of raging all over the thread. Not all solutions work. Also, ATI cards are known to have shit tons of issues with shit tons of games, it's nothing new. Maybe you should invest in Nvidia or something.

The early starter weapons still go pretty fast, but a high quality one will last you a long time.

Guys, I realise this is probably the worst place to ask this, since everyone in this thread is likely loving this game at the moment, but regardless: Should I buy this game? I was really hyped when its release was announced, I saw the pre-rendered trailer and was getting really excited for a skin-of-your teeth survival horror experience. Then gameplay videos started cropping up and people had electric rakes and there were, to all intents and purposes, special zombies. The turn in what I'd been expecting has put me off the game, but everyone seems to be really enjoying it. Taking all that into account, is this survival horror or is it Arcadey Dead-Rising style? EDIT: Also, is it moddable?

Also, would adjusting the durability get you banned? The one thing that made the game even a tad bit enjoyable was the duping exploit. It is kind of sad, to me, that the game lost it's spark after losing a damn exploit. Oh well. I'd say pass on it for now.

I think the best way of summing it up would be the fan-given name Left 4 Dead Rising.
I've been playing this pretty much daily and I think it's a blast what's wrong with it? also there were things cut?
How quickly do your weapons degrade? Is finding new weapons an issue or can you use most things?
weapons get more sturdy as you progress and level up but you should be finding more than enough cash to repair them when you need to
I didn't have a problem with weapon repairs except the fact that I was worried about my money. If you skip all the side quests, sure, you're going to be strapped for cash. But there's a LOT of workbenches, especially in act 2. :v:

That's beautiful.
In the beginning, as Xian, the sharp weapons, knives, degrade into worthlessness after about 6-9 hits. Machetes last a bit and so do Zed's Demise. But I still feel that it degrades rather quickly. I feel it a lot when I have to pay for upgrades/repairs late game. I don't recall side quests giving you a significant cash reward, but maybe that's just me. I do want to play more so I can get to lvl 50 and grab my Zed's Demise. I really miss duping :\ Also, the second part of your question, finding effective weapons is somewhat of an issue. If you use "anything" you'll be using crap that does no damage to the zombies, so you're forced to find weapons with good damage. Every time (before I started duping) I found a knife, it'd break in like 10 seconds, I'd chunk it and look for a new one. Luckily though, you can go down the Combat tree and get the instakilljumpstomp thing. Just run and jump kick zombies to the ground, and instakillstomp them so you save durability. Doesn't work on bosses, but that's my biggest tip on saving durability.
And is that a requirement? Are there times when the game forces you, with no way out, to fight the zombies? What about Runners? I saw it had special zombies and runners, can they be disabled? If I can, I'll buy this game and play it Survival Horror style.
