Oh for fuck's sake. Does that screenshot and the Ram's clothing imply that Dead Island will have a "HURR GUBBMINT DID IT ALL" storyline, or did the zombies hit up an asylum with very lax human resources centers?
(That wasn't directed at you negatively, znk)
What the fuck is that in the first picture with the cars?
The Ram. One of the muties.
The Ram reminds me of one those trench coat salesmen that try to sell you fake watches.
Mutated Zombies, a way to ruin any game.
I said that at first, but they dont actually go over the top with the mutant aspect. None of them are GRAWW MUSCLES AND HUGE DICKS RAWWW.
They make sense such as The Ram, would actually Ram because his instinct to kill is restrained so he charges the fuck outta anything. The suicider has boils and he explodes, other than that the specails just seem like different attack styles, they dont look over the top.
Everybody complains about The Ram but the Butcher/Suicider is perfectly fine?
I wasn't saying the Suicider is fine at all, i don't like it since i'll be trying to find many survivors and end up getting killed for being nice for once.
A really extraordinary ugly game. I have not seen a single good looking screenshot... Doesnt matter though, I hope its fun.
Cut the special zombies for once. They really kill the buzz.
Cut the special zombies for once. They really kill the buzz.
They should keep the Suicider and cut the exploding part. That way whenever the player looks for a survivor they hear a help
and then the player looks all surprised and will have to put it out of it's mercy.
I think it depends more on the zombies themselves than the very existance of mutated zombies - compare the Butcher and the Spitter. We haven't seen the Sucider - it may just have boils exploding on contact with your fire axe or it may be more Boomer-ish, turning into a gut-storm. We just have to wait some more time.
Am I the only one who doesn't care about mutated zombies ? Imo it's fine, a game with only walking zombie would be really boring.
Mutated Zombies make the game more inovative. Imagine hacking and slashing the same zombie for 10 hours. Shit would get boring fast IMO.
You make it seem like you are literally attacking the same Zombie over and over again, there is the fear of being killed by one, the tense build up as you're walking through what you think is an abandoned building searching and scavenging while hoping nothing shows up, the entertainment from dismembering a crowd of Zombies and the joy in finding a new place to hold up in with barricaded windows and good strong defences with some friends.
I think this game will pull of the mutated zombies really well, I just hope they have multiple models for each type. I don't want to see the SAME EXACT model every single time I encounter a special.
They spice things up. As much as I love shamblers, lack of enemy diversity can really bog any game down.

The unique combination of numbers and placement of many hard to mow down zombies would make for a constantly changing experience, like a dynamic and constantly changing maze with some routes being totally blocked off, mutated zombies are actually more repetitive to deal with.
These specials don't seem so over the top like the Hunter, the Tank or anything else from L4D.

Agree, if we also get more than 1-2 skins per special they will also blend into the crowd... With exceptions of course.

What were you more afraid of in Dead Rising 2? The Gas Zombies or the normal ones?

The suicider is a perfectly fine special. Can you see boils? Yeah, you can. Can you tell the difference between non boils and boils? I can, you should be able to. Come one man.
And the butcher is an awesome idea regardless in my opinion, no hands? just broken bones? Yeah, that's pretty cool.
Also, yeah, we'd all love a good survival game, but who's to say this won't be it just because of special zombies? Not everyone wants to be absolutely bored with enemy variety.
I like the damage system, tough I still don't think I'm going to buy this.
What were you more afraid of in Dead Rising 2? The Gas Zombies or the normal ones?
You never really feared the Gas Zombies, just hated them. Besides, there's a difference between a Special to interrupt your splattering fun, and all regular zombies being replaced with splatter-ruining Specials.

The problem with the normal zombies is they posed absolutely no threat at all, you could run into them and they'd just fall backwards and you'd be long gone before they regained balance.
That wasn't a flaw with the standard walking zombie, it was a flaw with the game design.
If you couldn't run through a group of zombies, could only push a small group of zombies back once every couple of seconds, and they blocked your passage by closing all gaps and trying to cut you off, getting cornered would suddenly become a lot more scary. As it was in Dead Rising getting cornered just meant you had to mash the attack button a few times and the group is down, no consequence to moving without thinking.

Dead Rising was more focused on messing around and fucking with the zombies rather than seeing them as a massive threat that you had to think about constantly.

It's sort of like the difference between Duke Nukem and Half-Life.

Maybe they're trying to make it so you run from the special zombies, not fight them.
Personally, I'd rather have no specials, and have zombies kill you in one bite, as it should be. I'm sick of all this "HERP DERP IM OLNY IMMUN HOOMAN WITH LEIK 3 OTHRS LOL". Make it realistic, so that one hit will kill you. If they do it like this, then it will make the game more strategic, and going away from the typical "Hack n' Slash" zombie game.
One hit death = 90% less people interested in your game.

No, make it so that you will eventually turn if bitten, which gives a nonstandard game over, but, after a certain side quest, you eventually find a temporary cure for zombie-ism that can be used to stop infection.
