I think I saw a zombie's knee go backwards in the trailer.
Let me find it.
Other than those obvious breaks, most bone breaking will be subtle.
Not a fan of the HUD and UI, the XP shit popping up especially.
And the animations are pretty terrible (the bolt doesn't go back on the AK!)
but apart from that it looks good.
I like how she smashed the windshield after it got cracked.
These are pretty much my feelings about Dead Island right now. I don't think I'll end up buying it, but I'll continue to update the OP.
Holy shit, I spazzed when I found out that not only can you drive around the island, you can also break out your window when it gets smashed :v:
This is looking up!
What happened to the multi layer damage? i can still see that this game got much gore but it is not the advanced damage system they said it would be. looks like an awesome game though.
I'm a little sad about the apparent lack of some serious firepower, but I think I can get past that fact.

...That was the point. Why put the game on a resort island if you're just going to turn it into an NRA convention like every other zombie game ever made?

Your sad about that now? We've known since 2007 it would be heavily melee based.
I wanted more survival. I guess I was just looking for a different game, but I am a bit disappointed.
The game looks fun for what it is, but it definitely isn't going with that overly-emotional thing they had shown off in the initial trailer. Especially when "SOMEONE SET US UP A BOMB" and "YA RLY" are popping up in huge letters on the screen.
This game looks like 'go out and kill zombies LOL XD' and not 'survive against hordes of zombies and fear for your life and oh god this is scary I'm gonna die'

this was one of the first features cut (and to be honest the only thing that really interested me) I remember years ago the video of the damage model for Dead Island, you could literally tear off skin and see muscle, tear that off and see bone. It looked so realistic and awesome.
They recently said this was simplified, and looking at the video, simplified to heads just popping off or exploding, meh! that's consolitis for you ladies and gents.
Your sad about that now? We've known since 2007 it would be heavily melee based.
Thats not true... Ive been following Dead Island since it was announced back in L4D1 times, and there was
nothing that indicated the mainly melee based combat except for the early crowbar screens.
I really like the gameplay, still looks a bit rough and needs a lot of polishing and its not as serious as i hoped
but I'd buy it any minute. Open world zombies - finally
This gameplay trailer cemented my interest in the game for sure. Here's why:
--Full body awareness. Look down, see body? Yes. Get into car, actual animation plays? Yes.
--RPG/XP system. Sure, it hurts the realism, but it's a great hook to keep you interested in exploring the island/doing quests.
--Attention to detail. Broken anims aside, smashing broken windshield and reading bits of paper for quests looks great.
--Weather. Zombie apocalypse + tropical monsoon = yes.
--Combat still looks solid, plus it looks like the limb damage system actually works (yay for sadism! break zombie legs and watch 'em crawl! whooo.)
Too bad there won't be a day/night cycle, weather's cool but having to worry about it getting dark would be grand.
So yeah, buying this barring some huge reveal that the game is actually shit.

I'm pretty sure they at some point they stated that guns would be rare while ammo is even rarer.

They said that in the newest trailer too. Shooting is not going to be a big part of the game. Probably "rainy day" items that you would keep a magazine of ammo for just in case you get swarmed.
Well, I meant that some time ago they mentioned that bit of info.
Cause I remember much talk on this forum about this subject.
It doesn't look too good. The AK was totally off, and there is something halfhearted about the gameplay. The HUD is a real turn-off too :/
I don't get why people are making a big deal of the rifle. It's stated multiple times that you will hardly ever use guns, plus the animations are visibly unfinished (I think they know that slides are supposed to go back when you fire a rifle).
Melee combat looked fine to me, especially blows to the legs for knockdowns.
Now I'm reminded of Borderlands, and how it looked gritty and serious to start with and then added XP popups and humor and turned campy. What happened the dark, emotional trailer, guys?
It'd be great to have a zombie game that was grittily realistic, where combat is dangerous and scavenging for supplies is more important than beheading the undead. Left 4 Dead started as a Rainbow Six mod- it'd be awesome to return to that sort of gameplay.
They never specifically said they would do any of what you stated, that was all just hype for something we didnt know anything about. The combat might not be intensely realistic, but it is still not a hack and slash game.
I see this as a more open Dead Rising, and you COULD use guns, but why in the hell would you when there plenty of crap to throw and hit zombies with.
Very negative people here. But if all the animations and current things technical about it arent changed, then yes it would be sloppy and youd have a reason to be mad.
Couldn't you use guns in Dead Rising 1/2? It's just that nobody ever did because they were so scarce/ineffective due to low ammo counts.
Just seeing the locations in that trailer made me happy. With that level of immersion, just hiking off into the jungle is gonna be awesome.
The gameplay was sexy sorta... kinda.. still can't wait for it!

It is, I distinctly remember mention and talk of it being heavily melee based when it was initially announced.
Were about do they say that the multi-layer damage system was removed/simplyfied?
Another promising game destroyed by streamlining.
It's like Alan Wake all over again.
Alan Wake was still awesome.
As usual people complain about everything. The game will be released in 2011, they have some time to work again.
Remember E3 video of L4D? A lot of animations were exactly the same as L4D1 + some sounds too, and they also changed the skins...
They'd already said that the HUD is not final, and maybe the PC version will have an option to disable it.

If you followed the development at all, you'd see that they did a complete 180 from what it was a few years ago.
That's why I'm disappointed and probably won't be buying it, it's not the type of game that was shown previously.
Changing some "skins" and "polishing some animations" isn't going to change the gameplay or mechanics.

It was average at best.
Again, another game that started out as a PC exclusive, that was touted as being a technological power-house with free-roam, different endings, and many other interesting features that were completely axed possibly for the worse.

I was following since the beginning... And looks better right now. The type of game that was shown previously? Huu, there was nothing, just 3-5 screens and a really short video.
