Disappointed about the gameplay in this, I am hoping that some new info pops up that indicates it's not quite as sucky as it seems at the moment. But...still....four player co-op is something that I will end up trying anyways.
The 4-player coop is making me want to preorder this. I just would like to see what it's like. We've got a 4-player team on Steam that plays L4D, L4D2, Magicka, Killing Floor and such and this would make a great new addition to the list. As long as it doesn't suck. Demo please!

"We're making sure these zombies are as life-like as possible" :v: [editline]23rd July 2011[/editline] Is the world completely open, without any transactions, or more Borderland-ish?
I don't really see how you guys can instantly not like a character. I can understand not liking one of them because their playstyle doesn't match yours in this case, but the character themselves you've seen very little of, let alone don't know much about them minus what they were doing pre-outbreak. I can't judge any game character until the game is actually out.
I think what RichyZ said is right above - the survivors ended up growing on a lot of players - but I'm personally afraid how likable the Dead Island cast will be to begin with. We have a hotel worker, a former football star, a rapper, and a bodyguard. 3 of these characters are already hard to associate with, because not a lot of us play sports (although I do, so I might like Logan), listen to rap, or do bodyguard work. In L4D2, even though the L4D2 survivors challenged the original cast everyone loved, they still seemed human and connectable because they were all average joes put in a really odd scenario. Dead Island's characters appear more like (washed-up) bigshots given one last chance to prove themselves. We really won't know until we see the characters in action, interacting with others though. [editline]23rd July 2011[/editline] Also the gameplay does look pretty fun so far, and as a whole the game looks pretty polished and well put together - even for a month and 1/2 before release.
Could be just a charred body model though.
He talked about it.
Could be just a charred body model though.
Were you listening? He explains that the layer system is there.
Yeah, he went over the system in the trailer, and how damage affects localized areas of the enemy's body. tbqh after awhile you're not really going to pay attention to the layer system. You'll focus on how to destroy zombies through focusing on their body parts, but that's about it.
Were you listening? He explains that the layer system is there.
Woops sorry my bad, played the video without sound!
You'll focus on how to destroy zombies through focusing on their body parts, but that's about it.
So you're gonna have telekinesis? :v:
I just want some Co-Op footage. The game has the potential to be extremely fun with friends.
So you're gonna have telekinesis? :v:
oh u!
it's like when l4d2 was announced and everyone hated all the characters, then ended up having gay fetishes for ellisxnick porn and coach memes
Yeah, people jump the gun WAY too quickly. We'll just have to see how it plays out...

[editline]23rd July 2011[/editline] Tried downloading it, it says the file's corrupt.
the layer system doesn't impress me at all imo basically they said "layer system... you can cut off limbs... when bodies burn they'll look charred"
Yeah, they seemed to tone it down a lot from the videos, I hope to be pleasantly surprised when I actually pick up the game.
the layer system is the same, keep watching the videos, the burned bodies aren't a generic burn skin, they skin the enemy from the top to the bottom, and if they die or get extinguished, the effect is lessened, take note when the guy beats the burning zombie and it's thighs still aren't bloody, while the rest is bloody
That and the fact that there's not exactly many options for open world zombie games means I'm still getting it. Normally I wouldn't risk the $50 for a preorder but I'm going to chip in for the 4 pack because $37.50 is easier to handle losing if it ends up terrible.
I'm not 100% sure, but wasn't it revealed this isn't an open world anymore? Or at least not open like GTA was. Or Just Cause.
I'm not 100% sure, but wasn't it revealed this isn't an open world anymore?Or at least not open like GTA was. Or Just Cause.
Says on the Steam page that it takes place on an open world tropical island
it's not open streaming, but it is open world in how you can go everywhere on the island, or under it, or whatever there's no streaming, so it's level based but the levels are huge and are basically the replacement for streaming
So it's like the Borderlands environments?
Well, I hope the environments are made to look natural, just with an zombie invasion overlay. I get tired of seeing level designs that don't make sense if they were to put in every day people to live in them.
Looks like there is going to be a demo. In that video posted where he talks shortly about layering, later in the gameplay a warning comes up on screen saying that the player is leaving the demo area. They wouldn't have coded that in just for a few video presentations.

Although I would love to have a demo, I don't really expect one.
For some reason, I have the feeling that they'll probably do that somewhat annoying trend that's recently become popular of releasing the demo a month or two after the game is released. I really don't know why I feel that, but I just do. Still, it would be nice to see a demo before or at release. Hopefully with some co-op in, since my usual co-op friend is still on the fence as to what he thinks of the game.
Need two more people to chip in $37.50 for a four-pack preorder. Who wants to save some monaaaay.
Need two more people to chip in $37.50 for a four-pack preorder. Who wants to save some monaaaay.
If only Steam had a chip-in feature, so you don't have to trust random people with your money :/

I'm not sure if it's worth $35. It just seems like something to get in a steam sale.
