I'm deciding between gmg and ultimatum. Gmg is slightly more expensive but it comes with the dlc, ultimatum makes no note of that. I guess it depends on the cost of the dlc when its released. Also if I find people to play with.

You sure aren't afraid to make it look that way then.
Before I play the game I'm going to watch the trailer again.
Dispite it's nothing like the game, but hay-ho

melee is more manly
About the characters, they all have different specialities, right?
Any word on those?

Logan is a throwing expert.
Purna is a gun expert.
Sam B is a blunt weapon expert.
Xian Li is a bladed weapon expert.
No word on any of their actual skilltrees.
Of course the Asian chick automatically knows how to use a katana
I thought guns were hard to find? :(
That kinda ruins the combat aspect for me because guns will be so tempting :v:

I thought this too, then I saw in some gameplay that a character had like 120 rounds to an assault rifle that can kill a zombie in 2-3 shots. Kind of sad.

Maybe they just wanted to make the videos interesting.
so its left 4 dead but on an awesome island, okay
They made it clear that in some missions mid-game and end-game you will be provided with guns.
Nobody knows how rare guns or ammo are going to be as of yet, but it's kind of expected for guns to show up more often as you get farther in the game.
I don't see why everyone's so worked up about it.
Bah, I forgot that weapons break and it's hard to find a weapon that's durable.
Anyway, I thought the release date was the 6th, it's the 5th. I have never been so happy :v:
Because people don't want this to be L4D.
"I don't see why..." of course you see why...

No.
It's Dead Rising, mixed with some Fallout alongside with some Borderlands. Basically; it's own style.

Ever since February's trailer, Dead Island has been on the tip of a lot of tongues. Will it live up to the somber vibe? How will the online work? Is this going to be another Dead Rising 2 when it comes to combining weapons?
We don't have the answers... yet. IGN's Dead Island review will go live Sunday, September 4th, at 9 a.m. Pacific Time. This very article will actually become the review, so just bookmark it and get ready to read about zombies and islands and so on.
Until then, enjoy today's IGN Game Scoop podcast about Dead Island and this video glimpse...

I hope they do a good review.

People need to stop comparing this to Left 4 Dead. So far the only things I'm seeing remotely comparable are the " special " zombies, and the fact that it's a zombie game.
It's an RPG with RPG elements like crafting, leveling, item scavenging and questing. Left 4 Dead is a run & gun survival shooter that takes you from Point A to Point B in individual campaigns where as Dead Island is an open-world RPG that heavily focuses on melee combat and skills unlocked via leveling.
I was hoping that each character would be the same and you as a player chose what to specialise in but on some gameplay that was posted here I notice that each has their own strong point.
Wonder if the 3 skill trees allow you to still be effective with blade/blunt weapons if you were to pick Logan or any combination you want.
im switching over to ps3 so i casn plkay with friends
Frankly I don't like the idea of playing with other human players.
I was expecting this to be a sort of horror-ish survival rpg game. Instead it looks like borderlands with zombies and less guns.
By which I mean flying health bars over enemies and damage indicators, really sucks any atmosphere out.
You can turn those off.

I hope so, becuase creeping through the sewers, hearing a spooky noise and shining your flashlight on a zombie only to see WALKER LVL 6. Would really ruin it for me.

Ultimatum doesn't come with the DLC, go with GMG.
