I am looking forward to this. Too bad none of my friends know about it so unless I beg for people to get it, no coop.
COUNTDOWN TIME! 3 DAYS AND 3 HOURS! (also, I managed to get like, $50 from people using my referral link, thanks for getting me Deus Ex, guys!)
Why do americans always get the game early, you'd think that since the devs are polish that europe would get it first.
People need to stop comparing this to Left 4 Dead. So far the only things I'm seeing remotely comparable are the " special " zombies, and the fact that it's a zombie game. It's an RPG with RPG elements like crafting, leveling, item scavenging and questing. Left 4 Dead is a run & gun survival shooter that takes you from Point A to Point B in individual campaigns where as Dead Island is an open-world RPG that heavily focuses on melee combat and skills unlocked via leveling.
I can still compare it to Dead Rising, though, right? Right? :saddowns:
Why do americans always get the game early, you'd think that since the devs are polish that europe would get it first.
isnt it up to the publishers?
Because people don't want this to be L4D. "I don't see why..." of course you see why...
My response to this is basically... Couldn't have said it better myself. If people think GUNS AND ZOMBIES = L4D then that's their problem.
Why do americans always get the game early, you'd think that since the devs are polish that europe would get it first.
Because North America is obviously superior to the rest of the world man!

You wouldn't be shooting zombies, really. You'd save the ammo for people and use melee as to not attract people. It all seems very run and gun.

But it wasn't even surviving. Like that sewers trailer. It was just like "OPEN FIRE!" and then everyone shot everything.
There's been plenty of melee combat in the gameplay videos too, more so than shooting. It's a zombie game so it's going to have guns. Honestly I'm looking forward to the intense melee combat but I'm also looking forward to having to resort to running & gunning my way out of tight situations. I don't really see the problem with them showing the gun gameplay if that's what you're getting at. I can imagine most people want to see what it's like instead of them just focusing on the melee combat all the time.
Why do people even feel the need to compare this to anything? It seems just like a fusion of different games. I've watched 2 gameplay videos from the PS3 guy and it looks like fun to me. Especially in coop with friends. It looks like Borderlands and Fallout got married and had a baby with Dead Rising. I really can't compare it to just one game because it seems like its taking elements from everything and making it its own. People haven't even played the game yet and suddenly they're experts on how it'll play. Everything has flaws but lets at least wait for the damn thing to come out before we start dissecting the goods and bads of it. This is just absurd.

[editline]2nd September 2011[/editline] But then again what else is there to talk about really. However, it's just a few more days until we all get our hands on it then we can truly see what it's like.
The only thing I'm really dissapointed about is that I wanted this to be a more survival horror type game. If its just another zombie game I'll pass, i'm not saying its going to be bad or anything, its just not turned out how I imagined from the early trailers and stuff. Also according to Kotaku if you swim into the sea it teleports you back to land and the death system is like Borderlands in that its based off money.
No one has confirmed this yet, instead brought up a big argument and couldn't understand what I was asking; Do you guys know if you can start a new campaign with an already created character like borderlands or Dead-Rising had? I'm not sure how to explain it any better.

The ones a few years back were completely different yeah. The most recent ones however have all been pretty honest in what you're getting. Unless you somehow managed to view gameplay in the CGI trailer that is. I can confirm the death system thing from watching the gameplay however. One thing I didn't really like. I'd prefer it spawn you back at a safehouse or something but eh. There's also no health regen from what I saw. You have to drink or eat to restore a health bar. They side-stepped it with some bullshit I can't recall but no definitive answer. Personally I'm doubting it.
oh, I found this in a interview thread, sorry for not finding it earlier without help:
Finally, we asked Kummer about the replayability of Dead Island. There will be a New Game+ super hard mode when you beat the game if you are looking for a little more punishment. Kummer also pointed out that when you beat the game, you may want to try out a new class and that the zombies are randomly generated according to the situation and zone you are in. This fact alone greatly increases the replayability of Dead Island both playing alone and with friends. 2 DAYS 23 HOURS!
Also according to Kotaku if you swim into the sea it teleports you back to land and the death system is like Borderlands in that its based off money.
Well that whole teleporting thing sounds lame. I was hoping for sharks or something a bit more realistic.
There's also no health regen from what I saw. I hope there's no health regeneration. I'm not expecting SUPER REALISTIC ZOMBIE SIM since the idea of eating/drinking health are on the same level of absurd, but having the regenerative abilities of a mythical troll is one of my biggest problems with a lot of modern games.

I got about 10mins of playtime at the local rental store, gotta love advance copies. It's pretty cool to say the least. There are loads of double-tap moments and it was hilarious to get a 'crit' from kicking a zombie up the ass while it was on the ground. In the beginning it was pretty brutal seeing that living guy in a pool of blood (literally) sobbing over his what-seemed-to-be his dead fiancee with a knife in her neck. Sucks how I couldn't bring harm to him, but that would've been pretty immoral thing to do anyway.
it looks like it will be either really slow hp regen, as well as some foods you have to eat on the spot (sandwich?) and things you save (energy drink, water bottle)
No regen at all.
not even as a passive skill ie 1 hp per 30 seconds?
There could be. Unless one of the devs confirmed that there will be no health regen in any way shape or form. However there might be skills that increase your use/hitpoint intake from first aid.

You're obsessing over realism where it has no place.
There could be. Unless one of the devs confirmed that there will be no health regen in any way shape or form. Doesn't rule it out but I'm not expecting it. Probably one that increases hitpoint intake though.
also, why is it that you were basically the info guy of the dr2 thread back when it was going to come out and now you're the info guy here too
Dunno. I got a DR2 copy early so I was able to give some info on that. Just trying to answer questions from my knowledge here. I guess I'm the zombie info faggot.
also, why is it that you were basically the info guy of the dr2 thread back when it was going to come out and now you're the info guy here too
Well kudos to him, it's nice to have that one person that's been looking into these types of games closely so they can relay it back to the masses.
just bought dead island for 34$ on steam with greenmangaming :) http://www.greenmangaming.com/?gmgr=setugeke use the code: READY-UPDEA-ISLAN PS: if you sign up through a ref you get $5 credit after you spend 5$+
Grow up, it's a design choice. You're obsessing over realism where it has no place.
Saying health regen is a design choice doesn't make it not a lazy design choice. Not that it really matters though, Dead Island isn't a survival game, it's an action RPG.

I personally like their decision anyway. It'll force players to think smarter and work together in sharing resources.
