Just thought I'd mention I visited L4Dmods.com the other day (used to help run and promote this myself if you remember the Dead Before Dawn days, but I left them over a year ago, it died and has recently come back so thought I'd check it out) and they are running a Dead Island raffle/competition.

You sign up, buy a ticket for $5 and you are entered into the raffle to win a steam copy of Dead Island. You can also enter as many times as you want to increase your chances, but obviously, it'll be $5 per entrance.

Might be worth doing for a few of you who are a bit strapped for cash at the moment, or just fancy your chances.

Watching the gameplay, I think so far the thing that bothers me the most is that it looks like upgrading and repairing is based solely on money. Which is just a bit silly.

Now the question is, will it work? I read that you can activate Dead Island in germany altough I'd really like to know if gifting works too.

It was pretty much my only huge worry, was that it was going to be a shitty ass console port. Now that it's probably not, I'm full steam ahead on the jizz-train.

I got the gift now. Altough 2 steam windows popped up, one telling me the gift is invalid and the other was the standard install your new game etc. It's in my steam list and preloading. So its probably just a bug.

And how am I obsessing over realism? I just hate the design. I prefer things like Fear or Singularity where you need to find medkits to heal.

The fact regeneration is spammed in almost every game bugs me because it's usually never done right. Oh hey, I took 30 bullets, I better just sit down for a few seconds because I'm a psuedo-troll who can regenerate everything in less than 6 seconds.

It just takes a lot of fun out for me, and removes any challenge at all in most cases.

I don't mind Health Regen when it makes sense in the game's fiction. Halo, Deus Ex, Crysis, etc. Robots and Future soldiers should have some sort of Emergency Medical thingy.

I think the best health system so far implemented in games is a mix of regenerating and medkits, you only regenerate on a small threshold like up to 10%-20% just to get breathing room, but to fully heal you gotta pick up medkits/healing items.
