maybe because of the dumb ai?
maybe because of the regen system? seriously the player got shot like 30 times and he's still alive
maybe because of the awkward gun play?
also for a game touting the "YOU NEED TO SCAVENGE EVERYTHING YOU FIND" it sure is generous with pistol bullets
Borderlands doesnt have regen unless you get an upgrade with it or a shield with it. Also they take a lot of bullets because they were more than likely high level with good loot.
Well since it's not unique I guess you can just have fun playing that other open world coop zombie game.
Oh wait...
Is that your only argument? I'm looking for serious opinions. There's no reason to act that way.

I don't think anyone in this thread cares if you like Borderlands or not. I don't think you care (hopefully) if anyone likes Borderlands. This debating isn't gonna change anyone's opinion.

i was talking about the gameplay in the video
i wasn't making a comparison to borderlands
rilez already made that post
I got Dead Island really cheap. I'm not concerned if it's gonna be good because for $30 I'm %100 that I'll get my money's worth out of it. I'm fairly certain it's not gonna be great, but there is no bad co-op game.
and for the record i have played borderlands and i enjoyed it with 3 other friends
i was expecting a lot from dead island but when i found out that it was just a borderlands clone with zombies i was disappointed
Why fight about opinions? Let the people who don't like the game debate and let the people who like the game discuss with other people who like it without trying to correct both side's opinions.
Yup, I'm thinking of a different game.
TF2 is still a retarded example, though.
You might be thinking Operation Flashpoint (not Operation Flashpoint 2).
Silly people acting like experts because they've watched videos. I'll get back to everyone when I get my hands on the game.
Is that your only argument? I'm looking for serious opinions. There's no reason to act that way.
What makes it unique is that it's an open world coop zombie game with RPG and survival elements. I'll admit that some of the animations look iffy and the human ai doesn't look great but those are are pretty nitpicky things that aren't hard to overlook.
Silly people acting like experts because they've watched videos. I'll get back to everyone when I get my hands on the game.
The point of the videos though, is to develop an opinion on the game. If it looks bad, it's the developers fault. Quit acting like watching videos of the game is something you can't judge.
Guys can we fucking stop it please.

Well unfortunately you seem to be misinformed as we've only seen a couple elements in this game that are also in Borderlands.

AI wasn't great, I'll grant you that, but it wasn't awful either.
Regen system? Huh? There is no regen. And what's really wrong with being able to take a lot of hits? Would it be more enjoyable if you died in two bullets?
Gun play, eh. Looks fine. Reminds me (rather weirdly) of STALKER. Again, nothing exceptional, but it could definitely be worse.
And, well, the gameplay you showed had you fighting dudes with guns. Of COURSE they'd be carrying ammo. What do you think they were shooting at you? Malicious thoughts?
So yeah, I think that on the whole this is a game that's going to be more than the sum of its parts. None of the pieces are truly notable, but they've never really been put together before. How many other action-RPG zombie-themed FPSes can you name?
Though personally, I am waiting for the IGN review at least. (I know, I know, IGN sucks and whatever. I'd just like to see the opinion of someone who's got a lot of experience with the game.)
Look:
1: No-one here is going to have their opinions changed, so this debate is utterly pointless.
2: That means that me arguing any other points is useless.
Good-night, everybody!

A video is for viewers to make their own opinion and experience a part of the game or it's aspects. However I do not approve of idiots acting like they've played the game (GUR HUR IT LOKS LIEK BORDERLANDS LOL AND IT SUK) and appear to know everything about it after watching five minutes of gameplay. When someone who has actually played the game makes their opinion I will take notice. Until then be quiet.
I really with I would get Dead Island as like an early Birthday gift.
From when this game was first announced its changed into a completely different game than i was expecting. Its just generic rather than a zombie survival. Not slandering anyones opinions or whatever but this really isn't a Zombie survival game.

I want to take this moment to point out that leaked gameplay is not developers showing off the game.

There are zombies, and you survive. What am I missing?
Well, in my opinion, I wouldn't want a game like this to be super realistic in survival like Project Zomboid.
Well, in my opinion, I wouldn't want a game like this to be super realistic in survival like Project Zomboid.
Zomboid made me have not fun. I was always panicking about being inches from death.
Anyone want to do a 4 pack? I have the money for 2 people already. 33.50 a piece and you get the DLC and the US release date.
Sure, it's unrealistic, but that doesn't mean it's automatically stupid.
No game is realistic when you think about it. In TF2, Soldiers fire rockets at their feet to propel themselves, medics have magical healing guns. And how is going around picking up health kits any more realistic? "oh let me just pick up this first aid kit and use my expertise medical training to heal all my bullet wounds and burns".
The difference between rocket jumping and magic healing, and regenerating health in a game that is trying to have survival elements (I say trying because it is trying to introduce elements of scarcity but quite clearly it is an action RPG), is rocket jumping and magic healing add significant new tactics to the game which makes for greater depth in terms of combat and teamwork, whereas regenerating health just removes an element of tactics and resource management/preservation in a game where having those elements removed is a loss.
The medic in TF2 has regenerating health, it doesn't matter because it allows the medic to better do his job, while not disallowing him from benefiting from medkits depending on what is necessary situation to situation, allows him to form a symbiotic relationship with his own team which is pretty much what you want medics to be doing. Should the other classes just have health regen because the game is unrealistic? Only if it makes sense (it doesn't currently). Removing a resource to scout, manage, maintain and utilize from a game which is trying to do a bit of survival, does not make for better survival, it makes it more like a straight up action game, and hey maybe you like that, but I personally have played enough L4D and Dead Rising and would like something different that tries to be like what it originally set out to be.
So when you try to act as if people are taking issue with it because of a matter of realism, you are quite incorrect, it's a matter of depth and how the design decisions affect how the game plays, saying "it is just a design choice" is not a counter argument. FYI though, standard fast (less than 20 minutes to regain all health) health regen historically has resulted in a significant decrease in depth in videogames, a common symptom of the design choice being unrelated encounters, wherein the result of previous battles do not have an effect on future battles, leading to samey encounters (unless the developers go the extra mile to create unique encounters (they rarely do)) and perfectly sustainable player operation without any player input to instigate a means of sustainable operation (which is sort of the antithesis of survival). So it's perfectly reasonable why someone is opposed to health regen, same reason people wince when they hear there's a console version in the works for a sequel to a popular PC exclusive title.
I don't get it, what are you guys arguing over?
Can't make myself read through 20 posts of stupid arguments and idiotic comments that probably don't have anything at all to do with Dead Island.
I don't get it, what are you guys arguing over?

This game apparently.

Who cares if it's like Borderlands. If a person has fun in a game, that's good enough.
