No, specifically gender choice is what would ruin it. It would only work if they'd make 2 really good characters that would be well-developed and would be interesting and that's already hard enough to do for a single character.

I don't know, I don't see the 90's as such a big difference from present day, that is, thematically. I think the 70's would be way cooler, I mean you've got so much cool shit going on with the Black Panthers, the Counterculture, the War in Vietnam. There's so much potential there for really interesting story arcs and a really interesting cast.
